For the first time since the companions arrived at the Jack and Saber, Bleermos Carp stops smiling. "Ah now, me friend, that's a double mess indeed, and me fear the clean up ain't gonna be to pretty. The First Captain's been missing fer...well, going on two weeks now. Was acting a bit strange afore that, and then one day, he was gone! We've searched high and low, even thought about delving into the old light house atop the ridge. In fact, one of the locals, a wizard named Brantas, is trying ta organize a search party ta go ta the haunted place. Ye won't catch me up there! Spooks and haints are not me thing, if ye no what I'm saying."
Carp takes a gulp of mead and then addresses the second part of Thurm's statement. "As for the quarry...well, ye'll be wanting ta talk with Trell about that; he be the quarry master. Seems they delved upon a sealed shaft; sealed with strange runes. Not Dwarven in nature either. Yep, lots of strange things happening around here lately, and those two are just the start!"

"Hopefully we will find a way to get into the thick of it somehow" - Thurm nods - "Thank you for the information Master Carp - we will make sure to reach out to either this wizard feller Brantas, or quarry master Trell" - he looks around for more ale - "Or both"

Raz "I've been meaning to ask you where did you come by Cu and where did the name come from?" the gnome inquires the backstory of the dog.

Ari

Ari carefully watches Keaton after the outburst, pleased the tensions have lessened if not entirely been quelled. She listens with interest as Master Carp tells of the recent problems that have arisen in these parts. She reckons whatever is behind these happenings might have the makings of a good tale so she mentally makes notes of what is said. Good stew, she thinks as she also ponders all that has happened.

Mag

Mag will walk-up to the bar to get an ale and will pause near the warmly dressed man and he will ask, "What is the name of your pet, friend."

Moan

"Cu, he is a good companion, always loyal and alert."

Raz "What does the name Cu mean and how did you decide on that name?"

Moan

"Not sure what it means, but it is a common dog name in the area I grew up in."

Cu is Scots Gaelic for dog. I don't know the language myself but one of my grandmothers spoke it so I heard it on occasion.

Raz "Interesting. How long have you had Cu since he was a pup?"

Moan

"Yup, I picked him out from the litter myself. He is a curious one, smarter than most I think."

Thurm - "Hopefully we will find a way to get into the thick of it somehow" - Thurm nods - "Thank you for the information Master Carp - we will make sure to reach out to either this wizard feller Brantas, or quarry master Trell" - he looks around for more ale - "Or both"
"Well, yer in luck. Brantas be sitting right over there in his usual spot. Looks like one of yer companions be about to meet him."
Thurm turns to see Mag approach a man sitting alone at a table.

Mag seems to be walking to the bar when he pauses near a man dressed rather warmly to be inside.
"What is the name of your pet, friend."


The man responds without looking up at Mag. "We are not friends, and I have no pets," he replies, breaking off a piece of bread and holding it near the opening in his coat. Mag sees the whiskers and then a pinkish nose of a large rat appear and take the bread, ducking back inside the coat to eat. Mag also notes the parchment on the table and sees the names of several of his companions on it.
The man sighs and looks up at Mag. "My...apologies for being rude. I am Brantas, and I am, well, I am looking for some able folks for a mission. Won't you sit with me for a bit?"

Rex and Moan talk about Cu for a minute and notice how every time Missy walks by, she looks at the big hound and smiles.
Raz - "Interesting. How long have you had Cu since he was a pup?"
Moan - "Yup, I picked him out from the litter myself. He is a curious one, smarter than most I think."

No more has Moan spoken thus, when Cu raises his head and looks across the room. Raz and Moan follow the hound's gaze and see Mag speaking with a man near the edge of the bar. Then abruptly, Missy blocks their view and says, "I love dogs, don't you? I used to have a puppy when I was a girl and she was the swee--EEEP!"
Her voice squeaks out as Cu buries his nose right in her crotch! Missy laughs and pushes Cu away, then rolls her eyes up at Moan. "Takes after his master, does he?" she grins mischievously.

With a nod to Master Carp, Thurm observes the exchange between Mag and this Brantas fellow in silence.

Grumble sits with the Mithril Hall dwarves and stews. He looks around to see what everyone else is up to.

Raz trying to look past the obstruction to the man at the far end of the bar "Yes I do love dogs they're a great friend and companion. But pardon me Missy can you tell us who that man is there at the end of the bar talking to Mag?" the gnome asks trying to redirect Missy.

Moan

Moan chuckles, "Stop that Cu. He is just looking for attention." He keeps an eye on Mag.

Ari

Ari rolls her eyes and says, "Attention isn't all he's looking for."

Missy looks to where Raz suggests and snorts in a somewhat irritated manner. "Oh, that's Brantas. He's a stuffy old wizard who mostly stays in his tower...when he isn't sniffing around Marilyn and making moon eyes all over her."

Just so it is clear, I am waiting for the development of this interaction, because it feels weird to go start talking over Mag:
