Casts Cure Light Wounds on Alordan ...
Cure Light Wounds: [1d8]=1

And twice on Maag ...

Cure Light Wounds: [1d8]=2

Cure Light Wounds: [1d8]=3

That was bloody awful.

"The thought had crossed my mind. It is odd those brutes were carrying it. Paranoid as he appears to be, I would have expected Garzanthanon to guard it more closely. Zhuma warned us against opening the book. I wonder if the Eye Tyrant did ..."

"Mr. Percy, please lead on to our destination and perhaps avoiding the main thoroughfares. We don't want to attract more attention than we have to with these logs."

Maag

Maag nods thoughtfully at Andron's comments. "Wot der yer reckon den? Maybe dis book came into our 'ands a bit too easily?"

"Wot if its a set-up? We was already wonderin' wot der bodyguards were doin' der. Maybe we were supposed to whack dem, get a fake book an' now we are walkin' into a trap".

"I have to assume that Garzanthanon opened the magic book. But it sounds a little complex to assume the plan was create a fake book and sacrifice some pawns to get us into a trap."

After reading about Garzanthanon dealings I have a few questions

(1) Can Torbath find any patterns (transactions, locations at a given time, etc.)?
(2) Can Torbath find something that we can use to attempt to blackmail or threaten Garzanthanon? If yes, we make want to set up a dead drop contingency.
(3) Are there any transactions that point to the characters in our current adventure (our benefactor, our scout, the other bar, etc.)?

"I agree with Mr. Torbath. If trapping us was the objective, that could have easily been accomplished in the sewers already. The last log entry is the key, as it was written in a different, crude, style. Those brutes may have been sent to collect something from that address. If so, we should quicken our pace. If those brutes are discovered missing, that will be the first place they'll search."

Andron prays over his injured friends to limited results. Perhaps his magical power is waning here in this strange place?

After staying the entire night in some unfamiliar Inn, the groups leader mentions that arriving at the address listed in the book should be of their utmost urgency.

Percy tentatively agrees to continue leading the party through this ritzy neighborhood, where they eventually reach the address listed in the strange hand on the final page. The building appears to be a private home, with a front entrance that is only a few feet off the busy street. A stout wooden door with the matching address etched across its surface stands before the group. Looking around the area, nobody notices anything out of the ordinary, like patrols watching their actions or dark figures peering out from the shadows.

Percy suddenly disappears from sight, but you hear his shell just before he vanishes. "I don't think the people who can live around here want to see someone like me with you."

About how large is this building?

"Understood, Mr. Percy." Accustomed by now to Maag's skullduggery, Andronichishche stands before the door with his head forward as if to get a better look at the address. "I will attempt to detect anything intelligent inside."

He casts Empathia Cogitatus.
Level: 1
Range: 0
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: 2'' + 1/2''/level radius sphere
Components: S
Casting time: 1 round
Saving throw: None

Upon casting the Empathia Cogitatus spell a psionitropic matrix is bound to the caster's brain that detects and amplifies the psychic energy emitted from cognitive thought. The magic-user is instantly aware of all creatures within the area of effect that possess at least Low (5-7) intelligence(*). The intelligence rating per creature is known along with its general direction and distance from the caster. This includes invisible, hidden, or out of phase creatures, excluding those ethereal or astrally projected. Creatures unconscious, stunned, in stasis, or otherwise unable of cognition are also not detected.

Intelligence and Wisdom ability scores of no less than 16 are required to cast this spell.

(*) Per Monster Manual (page 5):

0 Non-intelligent or not rateable
1 Animal intelligence
2-4 Semi-intelligent
5-7 Low intelligence
8-10 Average (human) intelligence
11-12 Very intelligent
13-14 Highly intelligent
15-16 Exceptionally intelligent
17-18 Genius
19-20 Supra-genius
21+ Godlike intelligence

The three story building appears attached to others like it which are built along both sides, making it difficult to determine its exact size. The bank of fancy high rise wooden houses seems to go on as far as the eye can see, blotting out the sky in most areas of these large city blocks.

Maag looks for a way around to a back alley, but with the long row of buildings, he doesn't spot any way between them in this area.

Torbath has his dragonfly Comet flit up above the rooftops for an aerial view around this Marketplace. The visage he sees through the bugs eyes is both astonishing and frightening, as there doesn't seem to be any end to this massive bazar. It simply heads out in every direction, as far as the eye can see. How a place this large can even exist is beyond the wizards current comprehension.

While Andron concentrates on any possible inhabitants beyond the closed door, the others wonder how suspicious they look standing in front of a nice home without being invited inside. The priest of Rao gets a single mental impression form a lone figure of exceptional intelligence a few yards beyond the front door.

The invisible Percy makes a suggestion through his shell. "Standing around looking like we are up to no good will definitely draw unwanted attention in this neighborhood."

"Perhaps, Mr. Percy. However, given that this address is associated with Garzanthanon, I would rather we avoid a possible ambush. Speaking of which, I sense only one rather intelligent being a few yards inside. I believe we are safe to knock properly on the door."

Theo, apparently and obviously confused about having mistakenly thought that the hotel was the destination described in the rhino-thugs' book (the last page, said to be written in a different hand and language), smooths his rough hair and beard, works on a sniff upper lip and a confident nose-up air, prepares to do his duty as the junior scout ranger of the party and knock on the intimidatingly posh door. Even a rookie ranger can't be surprised after all. But before that, he has a doubt. "Where's Percy? Gone invisible?" And, "Didn't Mr. Andron call for all of the highbrows to read all of the pages of the book? Did they try it during hotel scum-scouring hotel bath time, or did they forget? And, by the way, why did Percy call a social class-conscious warning and blink out?"

He turns to the group and whispers. I don't think we ought to knock on that door just yet. There are a lot of pages in that thug's book, an only one of them leads to this place. Maybe can the celestial scriveners try again? From a safe and private place. With our guide visible again.

"We have already thoroughly examined the logs. It is essentially a record of an entire enterprise of illicit transactions. Our mere possession of it puts us at great danger and we can ill afford any further delays. We are very likely being hunted at this very moment."

He raises his hand to rap upon the door. "The log entry suggests that whoever is inside either bought or sold something to Garzanthanon, or is in the process of such. I suggest we act like we are here on business, but evasive on exactly what."

"Perhaps whomever it is will divulge it, first ..."

After more conversation on the front stoop, the need to discuss knocking or not knocking suddenly becomes moot when a human female opens the portal. She is dressed in multiple shades of blue colors and appears quite easy on the eyes while she stands there with a curious look on her pretty face.

He is momentarily surprised at the appearance and demeanor of the woman, certainly not what he was expecting, and pivots his opening gambit ...

"Apologies if we are disturbing you, Miss. My name is Andronichishche. We are conducting an audit of business transactions with missing documentation. Your address is listed among these, although we have little corroborating information. Have you perchance conducted business with a Mr. Garzanthanon recently, or perhaps your husband?"

The pretty woman eyes the group with obvious suspicion as Andron makes his introductions, using his real name. She notices the look on Maag's face right before she hears the name of Garzanthanon mentioned, which causes her otherwise pleasant demeanor to quickly change.

Peering in both directions to see who might be watching them, she quickly ushers the group into the foyer of her nice home before closing the door behind them. She answers Andronichishche first. "I am not married, and please refrain from uttering that vile name in my home ever again."

She then looks to Maag, speaking in some strange code the thug has never heard before. "And you. I suppose the king has burned down the castle with all the peasants still inside?"

The remainder of the group who isn't speaking looks around the small entry room, admiring the walls filled with strange memorabilia from what appears to be poast thefts and wanted posters with the woman's lovely visage drawn upon them.
