I'm good with the plan. I was going to suggest that we all attract them out by slowly walking to the outside, but having only one doing this is a much better idea.

BTW, the first Lemmings is a masterpiece! :D

There's some trickiness coming up, and here's how we're going to deal with it. I decided not to do a surprise round, mostly because you guys are expecting some shenanigans. Now, this is an instant where everyone is going to want a low initiative roll.

What I'm going to ask for is the following:
Post your intentions as if nothing untoward is happening.
In spoilers, post how you would react upon seeing the event(s), in case it happens before your place in the initiative order.

I am not sure much can change Thordin's last action. Unless something physically stops him...

Alright guys, I'm still waiting on a few statements of intent. Makofan, I don't mean to pick on you but I've got no idea of what Jake is going to do. If y'all refer to my previous OOC post, you'll see that I'm looking for a primary post describing what you'll do upon closing with the Cube and a secondary post, in spoilers, describing what you'll do once one or more of your comrades go apeshit and start attacking you guys.

In case it's unclear, Marodin will attack the tendril creature no matter what happens, at least for this round.

I'll figure up XP and shit when I get home tomorrow evening. The ogres have some treasure. It is still pouring, and will rain for the next 24 hours. The best place to shelter is probably in this cave.

Where did you see that? If so, Thordin will volunteer to lead in.
This is what I was going by:
thirdkingdom wrote:Creeping forward Jake can see the elves are slowly excavating a large, metallic cube -- about ten feet wide and tall, with about five feet of depth revealed -- from which the tendrils sprout like obscene twining vines. The face of the cube is covered in small, cold lights -- in blues, reds, greens and yellows -- that twinkle on and off in a seemingly random pattern. Below the lights is a hinged opening, gaping wide like a toothless mouth. The tendrils originate from this opening.
Now, I may be mistaken, but it sounds like there is a hinged opening leading into the interior of the cube itself, from which the tendrils (of a creature within) are protruding. That is how I read it. Anyway, Lanny would appreciate it if Thordin the Tank goes in first to investiagte. :D

Good point. If, after closer examination, it just looks like a mouth and not a passageway inside the cube, Lanny would be content with a quick walk around the outside of the cube. Because "Elf #3" would absolutely hate it if the the jaws clamped shut on the dwarf and then rigor mortis set in.

Does Thordin want First Aid before he goes off examining the box?

Quick XP time.
The ogres are worth 125 apiece, the metal Cube 800. This yields a total of 2300. Now, I cannot recall off the top of my head whether Semele gets a full share of monster XP or half. If someone could answer that for me it would be much appreciated.

We're going to say henchmen get 1/2 combat XP. I have added this to the appropriate thread. There are 9 PCs and one henchman, so a total of 19 half-shares. Each half-share is 121.05 XP.

Semele gets 121.05 XP, modified by any ability score modifiers, while PCs gain 242.1 XP, again modified by any ability score boni.

Very likely. I suppose I should be generous and call the elf village close enough to civilization to count for treasure purposes, even though it is destroyed.

Gems plus gold equals 8800 XP. There are 37 quarter-shares. Semele gets 237.84 XP, PCs get 951.35 each, in addition to kill XP. I will roll needed hp this evening when I get, home and can link to the results. Luis, and I am guessing Makofan, if you can please update your character sheets to reflect any changes in abilities.

Not at home right now so I don't have my book here but I'll do so when I get it.

Hey guys, I am actually on vacation this entire week (I'm spending a week with my dad at Mammoth Caves in KY and the Smoky Mountains in TN). My internet will be pretty limited during this time, and I may not be able to post every day, but I will try to at least read the posts and maybe throw in a short post from time to time if I can. I'll try to update the treasure list and my character sheet tonight though, since I am currently at a motel with internet and have some down time between our cave crawling... ;)

Let me know how involved you guys want to get in the whole recovery thing. I'm fine running it out in detail, or handwaving all the stuff in the middle and cutting right to the victory feast.
