Gromp breaks a mighty wind to ease the tension, and smiles.

The dwarf stays to the side of the door, but reaches and tries turning the handle, should it be open.

If so, he pushes it open while maintaining his side position keeping out of sight. Letting what may happen, happen.

If locked, he rejoins the others. “I can bash it down and we rush in?”

The door opens easily. (SURPRISE! No Open Doors roll needed for this one!)

The door swings open inward to the right. Waiting a few moments, nothing happens, so Gromp peeks inside.

Gromp (and anyone up front) sees a room resembling a rough campsite. There are no kobolds inside!

BUT!

Outside in the hallway, Ellith...

notices the outline of a secret door in the southern wall of the hallway, about halfway between the door and the T intersection.

Myrrh moves into the room and starts looking around.

"Careful friends" - Ellith warns - "We may be facing an ambush" - he adds - "There is a door here..." - then moves to where the door is, searching it for traps and listening for sounds.

To be clear, Myrrh is now moving back into the hallway....

Let me re-set the scene:

The group was in the hallway outside the door at the end of the hall. Ellith heard kobolds inside. Gromp opened the door, but the room is empty. In the meantime, Ellith spotted a secret door in the hallway....

I need to know where everyone is. (You may place Cinders, Brinna, and Vali as you wish.)

While Ellith sets to work on the secret door, he will look on the ceiling and floor for any possible traps which might be connected to the door.

Since this is not a treasure trap check, I am not sure I need to roll against my thief skill or roll a d6 or have DM roll it for me?

Gromp watched the room, should kobolds show up. He observed the features of the room and exits out, wondering if there was a secret door in there that connected to the secret door Ellith found.

Well, you rp how to find it, not the actual opening.

Ellith does not find any mechanism to open the door on the door itself.
