OCC: if for some reason she cannot target the critter that grabbed Bryne's wrist she'll for after the mug that grabber her leg.

Bryne

Bryne will lash out at the beasts with her dagger.

Figuring it would be easier to draw with her free hand and use in tight quarters.

Dagger [1d20]=9 to hit [1d4]=4 s/m damage [1d3]=3 lg damage

"Ogres!"

Though not injured thanks to Morwen's ministrations, he was none the less bruised and battered by the pirate attack off the coast as they sailed towards Lionsgate. Several of the crew was killed and the ship damaged but the Captain and the rest of the crew, joined by Athan, Morwen and Liviel had managed to stave off the pirate ship, which bore the name the Leeward Axe, no doubt native to Canguine and the Seven Sisters. But damage had been done to both ships and after a full day of fire and fury, both limped off licking their wounds. The captain had informed Athan that he needed to berth in the Landing for a few days and that was now the harbor they sailed into. As the gangplanks were lowered Athan, Morwen a sister of the Vale and the scarred illusionist Liviel embarked into Gull's Landing. The harbormaster waited below for them to register and for the Captain to pay his harbor fees. Athan wondered if his former companions had made it here or had left the city already. He recalled Mave mentioning her father was lord of this land, perhaps he might provide the answer to those thoughts.
Athan cracked his neck, getting up from the bunk and massaging his arms and back - everything was sore and beaten... "I will not forget that name anytime soon" - he commented to Morwen and Liviel - "Leeward Axe... Maybe we'll meet again some day. I would not mind some words with those gentlemen" - the young man added with a grimace.

"I will need to check on Folly before we disembark, I'm sure he is ready for some time on dryland - maybe I can find a nice place to stable him for a few days, with space to run around" - he pondered.

"Then we can go look for the Gallowhawk estate"

“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” ~ Walter Langer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFpoAJdEr0

"Death will be no respite," Morwen said in her soft sibilant voice, "that was what the captain of the Leeward Axe called out as they sailed away." She pauses as if her mind was slowly digesting the words. "Though no doubt you did not hear the words Athan," letting the words slowly drift away from her lips like the fading cry of a seagull flying towards open sea. Liviel lets her eyes follow the small white bird as it disappears into the horizon, "Yep hard to hear when you are passed out in a pool of your own blood. Good thing Morwen was there not to allow you any respite. I think she must have other plans for you," she snickers, as Morwen slightly blushes, then she grabs the reins of Snowspot, her dappled riding horse. A sailor, Deru by name, if you remember correctly has also brought up Folly and Morwen's grey mare Misty. Both Athan and Morwen take possession of their mounts and along with Liviel lead them one at a time down the gangplank, taking care to keep the bridles tight leading them onto Gull Landing's docks.

The registrar of the city is busy talking to the Captain of the Griffin's Eye, though he pauses looking at Athan, "Names and nature of your business in the city?"

--------------------------------------------------

"The east side?," Erel says, "What business did they have going to the most dangerous part of the city during the most dangerous time of night." Garet strapping on his swords remarks, "Considering Mave's choice of friends to you expect anything less? Trouble finds her where ever she goes..." not bothering to finish the sentence. "Come on," Erel grabs his weapons, "Your friend is in the capable hands of mother and Adwin. Let's be off and see if we can end whatever trouble they have found." Garet glances at Mave, "Are you coming sister? I know you wouldn't want to miss anything." And after waiting for her, start for the gates to the compound.

---------------------------------------------------

Mediphera looked at De'Athyra and says in Vagary, "Do your friends always lead such....exciting lives?" De'Athyra smiles and nods her head yes. Wilwarin is of two minds, thinking and worrying about Ruskin and the trouble she got him into by not listening to his advice but knowing her nature wouldn't let her abandon a woman possibly in trouble. But neither mind warns her of the three shadows that move silently creeping forward from the room next to where they stand.

----------------------------------------------------

Niserie, Kade and Torvik stood waiting as the elf called to them, but then she heard the strange voices and watched Thena follow Bryne into the room. She calls upon Nicnevin to bless her friends and apparently they are in need of blessings....

-----------------------------------------------------

Bryne pulls her dagger and is about strike home when Thena suddenly appears by her side, blocking her attack. Thena, Rover in hand, plunges her sword into the great hulking beast to the hilt. The creature lets out a howl of surprise and pain that echoes through the room into the next and to the abandoned building above. It releases it's hold on Bryne dropping her to the floor, as it staggers back continuing to howl in pain. The hunchback pulls one off of Bryne and scurries back into the darkness. It's companions however do not scurry, as two more ogres move forward into the torchlight. "Looks like I'm gettin' me a new sword," one says leering at Thena, "And perhaps more," licking its lips. A deep accented male voice calls from the shadows, "Bring down the entrance and kill them. The sisters will want their bodies." A crudely high-pitched voice begins to giggle and steps forward with a hooked staff, saliva dripping from a mouth missing its lower lips, it moves towards the crudely constructed passageway.

Bryne

Bryne draws her sword and attacks the nearest ogre.

Long Sword [1d20]=2 to hit [1d12]=12 damage
Dagger [1d20]=6 to hit [1d3]=3 damage

I keep forgetting that 2e rangers get two-handed fighting with no penalties.

Erring on the side of taking a larger penalty if it guarantees she will not hit an ally. I'll put the -4 in the roll but if you need to increase the penalty to eliminate the chance of hitting an ally I'm good with that.

In a smooth motion Nis draws and fires, aiming for the the narrow peeks at those assailing her friends.

How much can we hear from the other room? The conversation before the attack? The remark about 'wanting the bodies', etc?
===
Thac0 20 (+3 dex, +1 elf, -4 called shot)
Nis thac0 (20) [1d20]=6, [1d20]=11, [1d8]=7, [1d8]=5

Probably not hitting anything unless it's a human w/no armor or dex, lol

Nis, Kade and Torvik can hear the sounds of battle and what was said in the room. Wilwarin, Mediphera and De'Athyra heard the ogre's howl from up top.

Crude battle map. Note the passage is too long in the pic, It is roughly 30' long and must be traversed squatting down or on your knees.

Thena

Seeing Byrne's attack she understands that moving back the way they came is not going to happen, for now. Charging the hunchback she takes a swing with Rover.

To hit: [1d20]=13 Damage: [1d8+3]=7+3=10

Mave

Mave speeds past her brothers, running from the compound, "Less talk and more moving you two! My friends may be in trouble and it appears easy living has made you both slow if I can outdistance you so easily. Come on!"

“If your enemy offers you two targets, strike at a third.” ~ Robert Jordan

Morwen holds Athan's eyes for a moment, though she merely says, "I did only what you would do for me," she starts to say something else but is distracted by the harbor master's inquiries. The heavyset man nods as Athan explains who they are and who he wishes to see, "I was a appointed by Lord Gallowhawk," he says and then gives them detailed instructions to the compound where they reside. And with that the three start their way to the Gallowhawk family estates.

------------------------------------------------------

As they are passed by their sister, hurling an insult as she does, both brothers look at one another and pick up their pace. The three are hurrying down the cobblestones when Mave looks ahead and stops dead in her place, causing her two brothers to sprint past her so sudden was her stop. They turn and look in the direction Mave is looking and see three figures approaching, Athan, Morwen and Liviel.

------------------------------------------------------

The injured ogre grunts in pain moving toward Bryne, "She's mine! All mine!" But his feeble attack is easily dodged by Bryne. Thena's charge takes the hunchback completely by surprise, and as she hits it, she can see it is a goblin though covered in grotesque make-up. It still holds Bryne's boot and doesn't see her coming until Rover slices him through shoulder to belly. He drops making a hideous whistling sound as he collapses.

The leering ogre and his companion see their opening and both focus their attacks on Thena, seeing her as the more dangerous opponent. The leerer misses completely while his companion only connects a glancing blow to her new plate mail.

The male voice you heard earlier calls from the darkness in the back of the room, "KILL THEM FOOLS! Collapse the tunnel now!" It is then you hear the man speaking in a language none of you comprehend.

The drooler moves to the tunnel and thrusts his hooked staff into it right in front of Torvik as he crawls towards the opening. The hook catches on the ceiling of the tunnel pulling part of the ceiling down in front of the dwarf, as it is pulled back. Though some debris now blocks his way, there is still room for him to keep crawling to the exit. Torvik hears the sound of Kade clumsily crawling through behind him.

-------------------------------------------------------

The three stealthy figures cautiously move into the room with Wilwarin, Mediphera and De'Athyra. Suddenly Wilwarin hears the floor creak behind her and the sound of crossbows firing. Three bolts fly past Wilwarin striking the wall opposite and she swirls to face the three brigands.

Torvik keeps going and hopes Kade can make it as well. He doesn't call back to him trying to keep as quiet as possible to hopefully surprise the troll at the other end.
