Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
the only catch is to specialize you still need to pick a specific weapon not a group. I added the weapon groups not what they contain/cover in my very first post of house rules/char creation info.

Trist did that for her specialized weapon...Used a single WP for it.
Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
Egon isn't specialized in anything as he is a fighter/thief and the rules specify only non-multi-class fighters can specialize. At least that is how I am remembering it at the moment.

Yeah that is pretty much what I remember Rex. But I can always refresh myself on the rules. That and the extra "splat books" adapt and alter things too.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
That is the one issue I have with 2e, there are so many places that the rules show up in can be tricky to find them all. But I do like a lot of the rules in the splat books, not all but a lot of them.

Yeah, this weapon group prof. bit is one of those that I like as you only take a -1 penalty vs a -2 to hit.

I am certainly fine with whichever rules you want to use. I did some reading and I assume that this is only for fighters right?

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
I was actually thinking of allowing it across the board rather than only for warrior classes.

I'm fine with it, Ed. I don't know how it works, I don't have the book. :0) I'll have to check it out on drivethrurpg or dive in ebay.
Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
The groups are for everyone, specialization is single class fighters only. Both subject to house rules of course.

I'm fine with it. It's actually how I do it in my home campaign. For all classes.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
Glad to hear someone has done this for all classes. How do you rule it BTB or do you have your own house ruled version you could share?
I'm definately thinking about it for all classes just like I do with bonus XP for kills to everyone not only warriors.

Lots of posts saying "sneakers" or "The Sneakers" and I refrain from posting "You are in the wrong era sneakers don't exist yet!"

Like most of the things I do when I DM, I wing it. I go with something like: bows, spears, small blades, long blades, axes, blunt weapons and missile weapons. No weapon familiarity and have to choose an specific weapon for specialization.GreyWolfVT wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 7:07 pmGlad to hear someone has done this for all classes. Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
It has been a long time since we used 2e at the table (since the early 90's) but we used the weapon types from The Palladium Weapons Compendium for proficiency with specialization requiring a slot for the specific weapon. Groups were for everyone and specialization was for Fighters and Clerics of war type gods only.
It is this book, but I have the version with the original cover.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
Interesting. I'm still mulling over further details of it but for now I added the weapon groups in the House Rules, and stated for prof. that is open to all classes. So now a mage could select short blades or something and be able to use more than merely a dagger. Same with if they selected slings they can use multiple sling types. AS for specialization I'm going to leave that as is for the moment and think further on how that could be granted to more than merely Warriors.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
In my experience straight Fighters are class with the fewest abilities in 2e once you allow specialization to everybody. Maybe to compensate don't allow the proficiency slot bonus for Int to be used for Weapons slots (including specialization) for anyone except Straight Classed Fighters. This would make it easier for them to be skilled in more weapons and be specialized as well.
