Cresty

I will move forward down the corridor and attempt to communicate with whatever it is. I feel that this is what I must do to appease my god. He stows his sword and walks towards the darkness of the passageway towards Brutus. One way or another we will all know its intent. Moving down the path the paladin holds his right and his left hand out to show a sign of peace. Walks slowly into the darkness and stops what he calculates is midway. Hello Brutus...I am Cresty...I used to be Sir Crestbrook the Mighty - Sword of the Brotherhood of the 18 Silver Circles...but I have fallen in disfavor from my god. I wish to regain my god's favor. We mean you no harm and ask if there is something we can do to help you. The paladin waits for a response.

The cleric breaths a sigh of relief after she makes it through to the others.

It sounded like rocks rumbling, I thought the roof was going to collapse again.

Alordan follows with his torch ready to light another one if needed. "If you see his face from the roof, maybe there is a room or another set of corridors up there."

I think it is time for all of us to move uo the tunnel and when he pokes his head out we chop it off.

Andronichishche raises a questioning eyebrow when Crestbrook anounces his decision to attempt a parley with Brutus, but doesn't attempt to stop him as he's quite aware of the paladin's determination when set upon a course of action. Instead, seeing as he would provide little value in the narrow tunnel except to pose as a minor obstacle in the likely retreat, turns about to enter the cavern and expand on his earlier probing of the strange dirt in the antechamber. As he leaves he looks over his shoulder at Gramble, "A reasonable plan of attack except, the confines of the tunnel dictates a one on one engagement."

Back To Work
Freeday, 19th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Partly Cloudy, Warm, Humid

Everyone survives the second meeting in the narrow tunnel with the so called Brutus as well, glad that there was no cave in this time. The creature who keeps showing himself through the rock doesn't seem interested in following the party, so they regroup in the intersection and discuss their next options.

Andronichishche and Maag are now certain that the reason for the lack of pursuit is because Brutus intends for them to find something in the dirt in the mushroom chamber. The priest of Rao suggests digging around in there a bit more to see if his theory is correct.

Tlachtga remembers the gravely voice and the disturbing crazed laughter, to which Andron agrees that the creature must be quite insane to be acting in such a manner. The druid starts to notice that her dog Cu seems to be acting a little strange as well now, bumping into walls and walking around in circles a lot more than usual.

Saracen suggests that he walk back into the tunnel and simply ask the stony chap what ails him, though he worries about being turned to stone in the process. Andron warns the half-orc that this might be a bad idea, but doesn't stop Cresty from doing exactly that once he returns. The fallen Paladin puffs out his chest and walks back in, calling out to the creature to show himself again so they may parlay. Alordan follows the holy warrior with his torch in hand and a really bad feeling, ready to light the way to retreat again if necessary.

With no response at the halfway point, Cresty continues on to the now partially broken blockage in front of the secret entrance where he calls for Brutus to show himself again. Alordan looks nervous as the shape of a head begins to form from out of the solid stone again. The large head is completely bald and contains several markings that remind the ranger of tattoos of some kind. The creature begins laughing again as its head materializes completely, it's thick, corded neck still sticking out from the solid rock. Slowly opening its eyes at the paladin, Cresty gets his first complete look at the beast in its entity. Can I get a Save vs. Petrification, please?

Actions?

If there is any specific area that Andron would like to attempt excavating first, please indicate. Thanks!

The closest area of the soil he found to be deeper than the length of his dagger. Not sure where this would be, exactly.

Tlachtga

"No one eat any mushrooms, it looks like they are poisonous to at least Cu." She will move to Cu and see if she can do anything for him, maybe get him to vomit with some safe herbs/clean water from her skin?

Maag

"Yer...der soil...", mutters Maag. "It didn't just walk down 'ere by itself". He draws his dagger and walks over to Andron. Then he also starts to slowly and carefully probe the soil.

Cresty

As the paladin moves closer the stone creature begins to materialize. The face starts to form...the laughter. He's not listening to me the paladin thinks. The creature's eyes begin to open...those...eyes..those A strange sensation surges through the paladin's body. He feels the creature's gaze boring into to him. Must...get...awwwaaaay. Cresty focuses all of his mind and will to move. The more he tries, the more tension build up within him, until he lets out a blood curdling screen.. aaaarrgrrrraAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

save vs petrification: [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22

Lerrick

The shrieking yell from the paladin echoes throughout the cavern. That can't be good

Cresty

Suddenly the paladin jerks his head away, breaking free of the creature's gaze. The paladin moves quickly down the hallway, almost bumping into Gramble, towards the rest of the party. Gramble, wait! Come back. Once there, he bends over with his hands on his knees, fighting to catch his breath. Once he has done so, he looks up to the rest of the party. You don't want to look at its face. The paladin turns the cleric. Lerrick, may I borrow your mace?

Lerrick

Well, one mystery is solved. And yes, you may borrow the mace The cleric gladly hands the weapon over to the paladin.

Andronichishche stops digging into the soil for a moment and cocks his head to one side, apparently listening intently to a sudden noise. "Mr. Maag ... did you just hear something? Sounded like ... a woman's scream?"

That's the way Cresty is I'm afraid. At least we know what it can do. And besides, what better way for Cresty to die than being turned to stone

Lerrick raises an eyebrow at the remark. I hope I don't have to hear your scream if you are unfortunate enough to look into the eyes of dear Brutus

Absolutely! That's why Andron knew it was fruitless to try dissuading him. Excellent RP. Sticking to character regardless of the risk, and why Andron will likely be killed trying to negotiate one too many times ... :?

Andronichishche looks up in surprise, not expecting another response. "Sister Lerrick? My apology, I didn't realize you had joined us. I agree, it's likely his eyes do indeed ... wait ...." His demeanor shifts to one of confusion. "Was that Sir Crestbrook?! What happened? Did he return?" Andron abruptly maneuvers to his feet and haphazardly brushes the soil from his hands and clothes, his expression now decidely concerned and alarmed.

If you are concerned about Andron being killed...don't worry Cresty will sacrifice his life for him. Andron is a lucky guy.
