Farmanus the Unneeded

Farmanus awakens. "Time for a walk, eh, Bull... Bel...ial." He rolls the name around on his tongue. "Let me get my shoes on." Yawning, the brawny human grabs his spear and shambles after the mutant baboon.

Tunnel Complex, 299D/81 (Night)

Belial takes the initiative and exits the pod to investigate the source of the flashing light. The winged baboon knuckles with purpose towards the presumed clash with insectoids. Others follow his lead and your group approaches the entrance to the turntable chamber, exercising caution.

Belial sniffs the air for scents and continues to detect insect, but it appears a trace at best. From this location, you can determine that the origin of the light is inside the left (west) tunnel. You move forward, into the tunnel and scan the intermittent darkness for danger. The flashing light emanates from an object lying in the bottom of the rail tunnel, 50 feet away. Several more are positioned down the tunnel and stretch into the distance. The timing of each flash is consistent but not synchronized with the others. It is difficult to tell the distances between the lights due to the disorienting effects of the flashes reflecting off the tunnel walls, but it appears to be hundreds of feet. The flashes produce a blinding effect that hampers movement and perception. Movement is slowed to a crawl.

You can see the outline of a side tunnel for exiting a docked travel pod 75 feet ahead, on the south side, halfway between the floor and ceiling.

Denslow calculates the distance in his mind and then closes his eyes, waiting for the vertigo effect to dissipate.

"Canopy me," he instructs the others as he then slowly moves down the tunnel toward the light. He will open his eyes again once he's reached what he thinks is 50 feet.

MacMak would use his ultravision, but the thought of light blinding effects were not too attractive. He will follow Denslow on his order

Duude! This is like eatin' some of those purple Jimson berries! Gnarly!

He follows Denslow as best he can, keeping his eyes focused away from the flashing lights.

Farmanus the Unneeded

Farmanus tee-hees as his brain registers one specific alternate permutation of the word 'canopy'.

Still suffering from the effects of his broken nose, he blinks futilely to dispel the flashing lights. "Break them, cover them, or break them - either one," he recommends while tailgating MacMak down the tunnel.

Silvestri

"The simplest answer would be to use the rifles, but the noise would travel far. We should approach them and see if we can disarm them, they could be of use. Let's stick to the wall as we approach, that may help with the disorientation.

Tunnel Complex, 299D/81 (Night)

Denslow volunteers to lead, followed by MacMak, Belial, Farmanus and Silvestri, and probe ahead to investigate the flashing light. Frank, Ron, Kurot and Bruce remain in position and provide overwatch. The group moves forward 50 feet, following the plantient who provides shade from the strobing light.

After using his technique to protect from vertigo, Denslow stands before a ten-inch diameter, black metal object that resembles an upside-down bucket. He extends his prehensile tendrils forward and around the object, searching for connection cords sometimes used to feed energy into artifacts. He finds none. Centered in the top is a blinking dome that pulses with an intense white light. Another flashing light sits a few hundred feet away, down the tunnel. There are more lights beyond.

Belial detects an increased intensity of insect scent originating from the side tunnel. The only sounds you hear are those produced from your movements.

Those in the watch position see the silhouettes of their comrades against the blinking lights. They can hear rumblings in the distance, but none that can be identified or imply imminent danger.

Silvestri

"If I cover it with my coat, hopefully we be able to see enough to look for controls to turn it off"

He shrugs off his leather duster coat and tries covering the flashing bucket with it.

Tunnel Complex, 299D/81 (Night)

Silvestri removes his duster and covers the light dome on top of the bucket object. Denslow moves forward and shades the group from the other lights. Darkness envelopes the front five as Kurot and the others watch with concern.

MacMak activates his ultravision (19) and scans the device for clues on how to shut off the light. His close examination, using the ultraviolet spectrum, indicates that the top and bottom are separate pieces. There is an internal heat source encased by the objects unproportionally thick walls.

Belial sniffs the air and drops a warning about the recent presence of mutant insects inside the side tunnel. You pause for a few moments, but do not hear any alarming sounds.
