Chaka holds the palm of his hand up to Tullia, hoping she stays put for a moment so he can test out the hanging cage.

The ape-boy keeps the rope around him as he jumps hard on the cage to see how well it is still connected to the ceiling. If that doesn't kill him, he walks over to each of the side walls (if he has enough slack) so he can examine the areas there to determine if he could climb down the rest of the way.

Ko-Nan also looks forward to resting to regain strength before plunging further into this prison.

Tullia

She will continue to watch Chaka, acknowledging his "wait" gesture.

Maskelyn

You have a very good point, Liberry- an. Let's try to find out. Maskelyn takes one of his darts and drops it over the railing, watching carefully to see if it lands, or disappears into murky liquids.

Hanging from a rope leading up into the open trapdoor, Chaka tests the sturdiness of the dangling cage and it doesn't come loose. He swings toward the nearest wall and finds it white, glossy and smooth; hard for climbing. But Tullia's rope should be long enough for him to reach the floor below.

Lowering the curious ape-boy down, Tullia scans the empty hall for something with which to tie off the rope. There is nothing in the corridor save the trapdoor, her, and her gear.

Meanwhile, beyond the sealed octagonal room, the rest of the adventurers slowly enter the rank, deteriorated, two-story chamber. The white door closes behind them as the clang of their boots on the iron grid floor echoes down the deep stone shaft below.

Adrock, Jeojand and Ko-Nan join the chorus of those wanting to rest and recover.

Fiefo, Garamond and Maskelyn approach the catwalk railing and suddenly, the oval lumps of glowing green matter jammed into the broken pipes take to the air!

Glowing bat-like creatures, each malformed and different from each other, screech shrilly as they ready to attack!

Before descending to the floor, Chaka speaks to Tullia again.

"Chaka see if he can make it to bottom. Once Chaka down, Tullia can pull rope back up and wrap it around door or jump to hanging cage. Loop rope around bar of cage, then climb down."

The ape-boy reluctantly repels the rest of the way to the floor alone, keeping his eyes peeled for any danger as he drops.

Tullia

She looks at the distance to the cage and decides jumping would not be a good idea. She then examines the trap door to see if the mechanism or hinges on it have a place to tie the rope. While she is looking, she comes up with a different idea.

I don't see anywhere to tie off the rope up here. I'm going to check the door itself for something. I can't jump as well as you can.
...
If that doesn't work, we can try something else. First, please climb back up. Then tie the rope to the chains near the ceiling and wait there. I will pull up the rope, and swing down to the chain. Then I can help you to the floor and lower myself down afterwards. I hope that makes sense.

Chaka will aid the ranger in any way he can, climbing back up the rope if necessary.
I wasn't sure if she could just double wrap the rope around the door itself (near the hinges, maybe) and use that to climb down to the cage. Then just pull on one end of the looped rope to retrieve it again, using it the same way to descend the rest of the way? Hopefully between all our rope, we can figure out a way to get us both down safely.

Ko-nan rails at yet more abominations from the cowardly ways of wizards..

Attack: THACO (20): [1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17 / Damage: (S/M: [2d4+1] = 3+1 = 4 / L: [3d4+1] = 5+1 = 6)

Garamond puts its back against the wall of the chamber, so as to prevent anything flying up behind him. If any of the creatures flies at him, he attacks with his drills.

Drill Attack (THAC0 18): [1d20] = 13 Dmg: [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5

Fiefo will lash out, inexplicably trusting in the fork that has never yet successfully scored the slightest wound:
Attack with Fauchard Fork (THAC0 19): To Hit: [1d20] = 20 Damage vs. s/M: [1d8] = 5, vs. L: [1d10] = 7!!!

Tullia brings up the rope and hauls Chaka back up toward the trapdoor. The young ape-boy ties off his line on the chain near the ceiling and Tullia pulls the rope taut and swings down through the trap door! Soon she is dangling 35 feet above the floor!

Meanwhile, in a whirling emerald maelstrom, the colony of luminous, twisted chiropterans menace the rest of the explorers of the Dead Wizard's Skyscraper!

The winged things are lethargic and bloated from gorging themselves on the green, glowing liquid in the glass pipes, and the adventurers get the jump on them, baring steel, staff and drill! Adrock, Fiefo, Garamond and Ko-Nan all draw green blood, but none of the airborne plague fall!

Then the glowing bat-things attack, impaling the adventurers with long, razor sharp proboscises! They stab necks, chests and faces, piercing Fiefo, Jeojand, Ko-Nan, Maskelyn and Garamond! (-3hp, -2hp, -2hp, -1hp and -1hp respectively) Horribly, the insectoids remain attached to their prey and begin to drink their blood!

Jeojand falls, but its winged predator keeps drinking from his jugular!

The vampiric carnivore affixed to Ko-Nan's face drinks too quickly and accidentally regurgitates some of the glowing green liquid from its stomach into Ko-Nan's veins! (Save vs Poison or take an addition 3hp damage!)

Ko-nan repels against the vile vomit of a blasphemous creature

Save vs poison (14) [1d20+4] = 15+4 = 19

He raises his weapon to cut the damn thing from his face.

Attack: THACO (20): [1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13 / Damage: (S/M: [2d4+1] = 2+1 = 3 / L: [3d4+1] = 8+1 = 9)

Garamond grabs the green bat-thing with one pincer-grip to hold it still while it drinks, and carefully applies the drill to it.

Given that the target is stationary, is there any sort of bonus to hit?
Drill Attack (THAC0 18): [1d20] = 9 Dmg: [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5

Tullia

After lowering hersef down into the room, she winds up slightly above the cage. She swings towards the chain and grabs onto it, then plays out enough rope to get next to the cage. From there, she can tie off her end.

I calculated (from prievious posts) the distance from the ceiling to floor is 45'; so 35' above the floor is about 10' below the ceiling and slightly above the cage. She should be able to grab the chain from there. Do I roll (d?) for her success?

Chaka works with the ranger to get both of them to the ground safely.

He wonders if the others are having this same dilemma, wherever they are at the moment.

Shocked,Fiefo drops his fork, grabs his scimitar and tries to cut the thing from his face:
Attack with Scimitar (THAC0 19): To Hit: [1d20] = 13 Damage, s/M/L: [1d8] = 2
Whoa. My crit with the fork didn't kill one of these guys. We could be in trouble... :? :)
