Pit
Aubron peers into the pit and gathers an initial assessment of it, then kneels down on the edge and safely lowers himself into the 10-foot recess with little difficulty. Careful to avoid landing on one of the many wooden spikes that line its floor, the elf carefully crosses to the opposite side to allow room for Keblen to follow, which the gnome easily does.
Pit.jpg
Pit.jpg (71.7 KiB) Viewed 942 times
Aside from the wooden spikes, the floor of the pit is coated with dust. A few random bones are scattered about, but even they are covered by a thin layer of dust suggesting this area has been undisturbed for quite a long time.

The tracks which led into the pit cross to the other side then disappear, but the ranger is able to tell that whatever left the prints did, in fact, climb back out of the pit on the opposite side.

---

The walls of the pit are rough enough where there are more than adquate hand and footholds. No check is required to safely descend into or ascend out of it.

P.S. Rules on 'Jumping' for reference.
Long Jump. When you make a long jump, you cover a number of feet up to your Strength score if you move at least 10 feet on foot immediately before the jump.

Aubron

The ranger continued to track the little footprints. Carefully avoiding the spikes, he used the roughness of the opposite wall of the pit to hoist himself back up. Once up, he stopped and waited for the others. While they moved along, he surveyed the room.

Kelben continues to follow Aubron and once climbing out of the pit he too will stop and wait for the others to follow that plan to. In his waiting he steps off out of the way to the left of the entry into the room with the dragon sarcophagus and looks for anything else that might be out of place or potentially a trigger for a trap.

Not Surprised!
Aubron uses the roughness of the opposite wall to hoist himself up on the other end. Violet marble tiles cover the floor and walls, though all are cracked or broken, revealing rough-hewn stone beneath. Sconces are attached to the walls at each corner, but all are dark save the sconce in the nearest left corner which contains a torch burning a greenish fire.

The marble sarcophagus, easily nine feet long, lies in the room’s center. The coffin, with rusting iron clasps firmly securely locking down the lid, is carved with dragon imagery; the head of the sarcophagus resembling a dragon’s head:
Round 0.jpg
Round 0.jpg (77.85 KiB) Viewed 939 times
The ranger's assessment of the new area is quickly interrupted, however, as he hears a scraping sound in the nearest corner to his right!

What looks like a 2-foot-tall green humanoid with clawed fingers and toes, and a barbed tail and horns, is advancing on Auborn:
Creature.jpg
Creature.jpg (34.73 KiB) Viewed 939 times
The creature screeches angrily when it realizes its approach has been detected. "No matter," it says in a creepy form of common.

Kelben, hearing this, quickly moves to the opposite side of the bit and readies himself to climb to the other side.

---

Round 1 will be just Auborn and the creature. Kelben, with his 25-speed, will be able to successfully climb the 10-foot wall on the other side of the pit and reach the surface in round 1, and will be able to fully join in round 2.

Everyone, please roll Initiative and...

Aubron

Once Aubron saw the creature in the corner, he pulled his bow ready for what may come. He prepared to take this thing down one way or another, realizing that his companions are far behind him. He moved to the farthest corner of the room to put the dragon sarcophagus between them and knocked an arrow. He drew the bow back and let the arrow fly.

From across the room, he heard the thing squeal in pain as the arrow struck true into its side. A subtle, little smile crossed the elf's face.

Dead Jot
The creature continues to screech angrily. "Jot will sti ---"

The creepy taunting is instant interrupted as Auborn's arrow pierces the throat of the tiny fiend. The creature falls silent as it crumbles to the ground in a motionless mess, dead.

Kelben quickly pulls himself to the surface on this side of the pit and quickly reaches for his rapier before realizing the threat has already been eliminated.

Sky

Late to the party, Sky is just starting to size up the jump when she hears the commotion. An instant later, all is quiet again. She calls out: "Jot will...what, exactly? Don't keep us waiting."

Sky decides that she will not jump the pit, solely because someone suggested she do so. She climbs down and through the pit. On the other side, she surveys the situation and moves quickly to the fallen body of who she assumes is Jot.

Kelben The gnome thinks more about the creature and flashes through his past exploits then remembers one time in dealing with some crazy mage that called himself a warlock "Ah I remember I have seen one of these before it was a tiny fiend. I vaguely recall a warlock calling it a Quasit I think. If I recall the crafty little buggers can change shape into a toad, centipede and something that resembles closely to a bat. Other than that I think they had some way of inducing a type of magical fear and going invisible. But it's been some time since that incident I might be off a bit in describing them." the gnome shrugs and goes back to scanning the room a bit unnerved by the sarcophagus still. "Wonder if the imps master is in that thing." he points indicating the sarcophagus.

Qelgrax Klilxuac

Hearing the commotion from the other side of the pit, Klilxuac comes over to see what's going on. Hmm. That thing had to get in here somehow. Are you sure there wasn't some sort of hidden door over here?

The sorcerer begins searching the empty alcove for any sort of moving wall section. Well, it does seem pretty solid here.

I screwed up.
Jot, a quasit, has damage resistance to non-magical attacks, which would have halved the damage Auborn inflicted, which would not have killed it.

The outcome for the party doesn't change, but I will clarify the last action here.
Apologies for any confusion.

---

Tomb
The creature continues to screech angrily. "Jot will sti ---" Just then, the creepy taunting is instantly interrupted as Auborn's arrow clips the throat of the tiny fiend.

"Ahhh," Jot shrieks, then quickly shifts into a creepy laugh. “You broke the binding," it says as it completely disappears from view. "My watch over the dragonpriest is over!” it says, its voice moving quickly from left-to-right across the room.

Kelben quickly climbs out of the pit and enters the room -- in time to hear the fiendish cackling, but not in time to actually observe the source.

Moments later, a bat materializes out of thin air from the far corner of the tomb area and, fluttering across the 10-foot ceiling, quickly passes Sky, and Klilxuac, and Farador overhead as it makes its escape in the opposite direction the group is currently moving.

Jot now gone, Auborn, Kelben, and Sky cluster near the entrance to this new tomb area, while Klilxuac (and Farador) remain back beyond the pit, with the dragonborn inspecting the empty alcove without success.
Tomb.jpg
Tomb.jpg (155.19 KiB) Viewed 906 times

After hearing Auborn detail the appearance of the fiendish creature calling itself Jot, Kelben recalls a past interaction he had with a crazy warlock that had a pact with a creature matching that description -- a quasit; a shape-changing fiend from the Lower Planes.

The long sarcophagus in the center of the tomb dominates the new area, with green-flame torch burning in the southeast corner of the tomb representing the only other object of interest noted.

Qelgrax Klilxuac

Well, that isn't at all ominous, the sorcerer notes sarcastically upon hearing the quasit proclaim its period of servitude had abruptly ended. At least we know why there were no other footprints going in or out. The dragonborn will make his way across the pit. Now, the question is why was it watching over the dragonpriest, who I'm assuming is inside this sarcophagus. Was it guarding the tomb, or keeping watch so that nothing came out of the tomb, and we have now chased off the only thing preventing an escape? Wandering over to the southeast corner, the sorcerer muses, Hmm. Green flame. Interesting choice. Wonder if there is any specific reason...

Sky notices the dragonborn's interest in the torch. "Interesting. Jot wouldn't have need of the light, so he wouldn't have lit that. And we haven't seen many tracks here. How long do you think that has been burning?"

Sky focuses her attention on Kelben and starts boosting his ego. "Nice work with those traps back there, you really are a master at that. I bet...no...I know you're able to deal with anything that comes up. I, for one, feel sooo much safer knowing that you are watching our path."

Sky is trying her Bardic Inspiration on Kelben.

Aubron

That did not go as well as it was planned. I think the question is who bound jot? Aubron moved straight ahead to look at the sarcophagus and try to determine if there is any writing or anything unusual on the burial vessel. While he is at it, he also looks for traps.

Motioning to Kelben, he said, You may want to give this a look over as well. I fear we may have walked into something bad.

I agree, Common does make everything less...threatening. Not that this is necessarily bad. I could say something in my native tongue, such as, "Don't these flowers look beautiful?" and it would sound like I am threatening to remove your entrails just going by tone and inflection, if you don't understand the words. The sorcerer gives Sky a toothy grin. Not that this is necessarily bad, either. As for the green flame- I'm trying to figure that out. Let me take a closer look and give me a moment or two to think about it.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. Tomb
"Well, that isn't at all ominous," Klilxuac notes sarcastically upon hearing the quasit proclaim its period of servitude had abruptly ended.

"It's not as ominous as if spoken in his native tongue. Common really takes the edge off of threats, don't you think?" Sky remarks. The half-cat observes the dragonborn as it wanders over to the southeast corner and examines the torch burning green. "Interesting. Jot wouldn't have need of the light, so he wouldn't have lit that," she purrs. "How long do you think that has been burning?" Klilxuac shares that, while it appears to be a regular flame, it isn't letting off any heat. "No saying how long it's been burning, but I strongly suspect this is "burning" by means of a 'continual flame' spell... so this thing could have been been here for hundreds of years already.... unlike my spell, which I may need to refresh shortly."

While she finds the dragonborn's remarks about the light interesting, Sky had already shifted her focus onto Kelben, standing just inside the archway nearby. "Nice work with those traps back there," she starts. "You really are a master at that. I bet...no...I know you're able to deal with anything that comes up. I, for one, feel sooo much safer knowing that you are watching our path."

"That did not go as well as it was planned," Auborn states. "I think the question is who bound jot?" he says, advancing to the sarcophagus to get a closer look. Motioning to the newly inspired Kelben, he says: "You may want to give this a look over as well?"

While waiting for the gnome to join him, the elf notes that the sarcophagus is ornately designed; masterfully crafted out of stone into the shape of a dragon. He does not note any writing or symbols on the vessel.

Kelben, you now have one d6 Bardic Inspiration die. See: Bardic Inspiration
Bardic Inspiration
You can inspire others through stirring words or music. To do so, you use a bonus action on your turn to choose one creature other than yourself within 60 feet of you who can hear you. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die, a d6.

Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the Bardic Inspiration die is rolled, it is lost. A creature can have only one Bardic Inspiration die at a time.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (a minimum of once). You regain any expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Your Bardic Inspiration die changes when you reach certain levels in this class. The die becomes a d8 at 5th level, a d10 at 10th level, and a d12 at 15th level.

Kelben "Very well. I'll have a look at it but I don't feel right opening it. I don't mess with the dead." the gnome says walking up to inspect the sarcophagus.
