The Oasis
Re: The Oasis
Hmm, maybe we should be throwing the net away from the water (i.e. northwards), to make it's escape route more difficult. However this would mean that D and V would need to be hidden at the other corners, and the croc would have to pass them by to get to the goat.
Re: The Oasis
This is how I imagined it, although I would place the net, the goat and D, T, V farther away from the mud slide. Like 3-4 squres north. Then, in my mind, D and V would not pull the ends, they would wrap the net around the Croc. D takes the NW end and wraps over the croc it so that the end carried meets the SW end, and vice versa for K.
This is me meta gaming. Tuurma is too restless and hungry to foucus properly on a more advanced plan.

I like this plan best, although I am fine with Drests current position.sastaz wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 9:38 pm This is how I imagined it, although I would place the net, the goat and D, T, V farther away from the mud slide. Re: The Oasis
And yes, upon hearing from the ones who stayed thst the croc doesn't surface with lots of people near, Tuurma will do a best effort to hide and cover herself. Preferrably still within charge range of the goat, assuming they will launch the attack as the croc hits the goat. I assume we all will try our best to hide.

Re: The Oasis
Sounds good to me. Also take into consideration that the mud slide can make us slipe while pulling the croc and hence very vulnerable.

Re: The Oasis
You can move the net back about 20 feet before you hit the incline of a massive sand dune.
You could move it back further if you don't mind the northern edge of the net situated higher, but it will be difficult to fight in the softer sand of the shifting dunes.
You see the croc surface at a distance a few times while you are setting up the net, and it is indeed about 20 feet long from head to tail.
I don't know if that changes how you want to work this out, but I would like to nail this all down here eventually so we can get back to the action.

Re: The Oasis
I am good with it as is.
Re: The Oasis
Me too. We have to surround it pretty quickly to have a chance to overpower it and also try to block its escape rout (the mud slide). So I don't know about those javelins actually. Better just swarm it! Otherwise I fear we will hit with 3 javelins for 11 damage and then it's gone down the slide.

Valkrina
Keeps her spiked spear tethered to her wrist. A whalers tradition so missed shafts can be retrieved. Hers, of whalebone is carved as a scrimshaw with decals of her adventures.
"Crocs, at least the 'saltie's I know about only have a tail that swishes heavily side to side, not like a scorpion that can curl a stinger over its back. So maybe wrangling it and jumping aboard might be a good strategy to take it out."
She takes her appointed position and waits for the action to develope. Flute ready too for she can highlight the creature if need be with twinkling fairy lights, ethereal fey fire that dances around its form and aiding any combat against it. She waits for it to lunge at the sacrificial goat.
Faerie Fire spell.

Kang
Behind his small blind of palm fronds, Kang waits with an arrow knocked to the string of his bow. Bowed on one knee, he's utterly still with a timeless patience.

Akhilleus helps first with the net placement and then with the camouflage of plants and leaves.
Then he picks up his javelin and moves into position.

Re: The Oasis
Before we go any further, I thought you guys might be able to use another hand or two.
The Hunt
The Oasis
8:00am, Cloudy, Dry
As the group sets up their net and blinds, they spot the target of their hunt surfacing a few times to take a look at its possible next meal. The beast looks absolutely huge.
Deciding to move the net back a little further, palm fronds and other vegetation is gathered to aid hiding those at the corners of the net.
Hopefully not a sign of things to come, the fighters dig small burrows that look like shallow graves in the sand where they can lay in wait, covered by the dry fronds.
As plans are nearly finalized, and the group readies to go into hiding for a while, a common, shiny headed human in black leather clothing appears from the direction of town. He sees the group from a distance and without invitation or warning, he simply walks right up to them. He looks over the area for a moment before sighing heavily, as if he was about to say something very important.
The only one of you who has seen this man before is Kang, a day or two ago, right here in the oasis, but only from a distance.

Being his usual blunt self, "Who are you and what do you want?"
Always best when the guy with the 3 Charisma takes the lead in communications.

Looks the newcomer up and down.
"Oh well he's the type of guy who will never settle down.
Where pretty girls are well, you know that he's around.
He'll kiss 'em and love 'em, 'cause to him they're all the same.
He'll hug 'em and squeeze 'em, they don't even know his name.
They call him the Wanderer, yeah the Wanderer.
He roams around, around, around."

Tuurma grinds her teeth and whisper-screams:
"Newcomer! Move away or join the ambush. This is your first and final warning!"

Re: The Oasis
Cyril
The man looks up, eyes wide as if he just realized you were talking to him. He says, "You're doing it wrong," as if that is enough explanation. When it is clear it is not he continues, "I mean if your goal is to trap the goat in a net, then I think you've done wonderfully, but I would venture this has something to do with that reptillian legend some of the locals have been talking about. By the way, do crocs eat goat?...well regardless that probably isn't the point. It seems to me that you do not want the goat in the middle of the net when the net is barely large enough for this behemoth. Here is my proposal: station your goat - have you named her yet? - at the edge of the net and force the croc to come all the way across the net. That way we truly will maximize the nets use. And then, I believe i heard that you were planning on netting the thing head to tail toward the water. But I say NO! Pull the net across its body parallel to the shore. We need one brave soul at one of the corners nearest the water and another on the other corner on that same side. And then when it comes time to close the trap, those intrepid heroes pull the net across the crocs body."
Cyril blinks once, as if surprised that he got all that out and proceeds to sit cross legged on the sand. "I'm Cyril, by the way."

Re: The Oasis
Tuurma squints at the newcomer as he revises their carefully laid out plan. After a while she throws her hand into the air.
"Bah! What do I know. Let's do what he says. I will face this beast head on either way."
She goes to move the goat according to Cyril's suggestion.

Re: The Oasis
Akhilleus sighs. There's been enough planning and delaying already. He doesn't say anything though and lets the others so their thing while he keeps his position.
He takes from time to time a look at the water to his right (south), in case the beast comes his way instead of the way they would expect.
