Des will take lead, his axe up on his shoulder and scanning for trouble. One never knows what dangers lurk in the dark, after all.

Magdal returns the coins and stays close to her friends. She will walk beside Callista, wanting to stay close to her in case things go awry. She wasn't sure the priestess could take care of herself. Heck, in this crowd Magdal wasn't sure she could take care of herself.

Magda feels a hand reach into her cloak, but she slaps it away before it can grab anything and the small Goblin scuttles away so quickly she can't even get a bat of a hand in on him.

Des sees a pair of Goblins over next to the line of buildings to the right that seem to be silently pacing the group's progress as they walk along. When the group makes the first turn, they continue along with you.

Eodrien notices a Goblin on her left lounging against the wall of a building who begins to move along with you as you pass by. This Goblin has a cloak up hiding its features, but you see the end of a sword peeking out from under the cloak.

Back at the rear, Valerin feels and with a quick glance confirms that you have a "tail." There are three cloaked figures walking along behind you 30 or 40 feet back. He also notes that the other Goblins on the street are giving these dark figures a wide berth.

Master Ross says from the middle of the group, "This is probably not an attack. I think it's more a shakedown. Stay vigilante, but don't start the fight."

As the group turns the next corner they can see a group of six, eight, maybe ten figures ahead blocking the street. You all notice that the street is completely empty except for you and those who had been moving along with you.

Light from a hooded lantern spills out from the group ahead and an old Goblin woman steps forward slightly saying in a high quavering voice, "Hold Master Ross!"

Ross says to you all, "Hold, ready." then reaches into his robe and pulls out a small bag. You can hear it jingle as he holds it up over his head.

"I, Linoria, bring greetings and thanks from the real rulers of Goblintown." she says with the nod of her head in greeting, "The Guild appreciates your people stepping in to drive off the Orcs today. In payment we are escorted you and your people from Bosco's house to the gates."

Spying the bag she smiles a toothy smile and cackles as she holds out her hand, "Of course, a gift from you would be accepted most graciously..."

Ross chuckles and tosses the bag toward her. One of the larger Goblins beside her reaches forward and catches it out of the air. Linoria gives him a stern look then turns back to Ross she bows slightly and says, "Pass to your wagons with no fears from the dangers of this town."


Then she and the group around her fade out as the light from the hooded lantern disappears and like fog drift off into the darkness of the street ahead. Looking around, the Goblins that were tracking along with you begin to fade into alleys and darkened doorways and you quickly find yourselves alone on an empty street.


"Whew!"
Ross breathes out, "I'm never met any of the Guild leaders before, but I've had to pay a toll to them for passage a time or two. Never much, they appreciate the trade even more than Bosco does, so it's just a token of respect, but she's right the Guild probably is the real power in this town."

Your group passes through completely empty streets to the closed town gates where very nervous guards flanked by hooded figures open the gates for you as you pass through.

Once back inside the laager of wagons lighted by a campfire in the center, Ross throws his hood back and grins, "Now that was an experience to remember and Linoria a name to remember for future reference."

"Well done everyone! Ross says clapping his hands, "Let's set up a watch. She said no dangers, but that was just in the town, I think. And then get some sleep. We'll do our trading here tomorrow morn and then be gone before the sun reaches its full height."

Darrian sleeps through the night and isn't awakened for a watch. There are plenty of others to do that so they let the magic user sleep.

The night passes uneventfully and the morning breaks bright with almost no clouds in the sky. It promises to be a hot day here on the rolling plains.

Master Ross sets up a marketplace outside the laager, about halfway between the laager and the town's gates.

Ross buys and sells items to a stream of Goblins for more than three hours while his wagon drivers carry items to and from the wagons and you provide general security to prevent five finger discounts. In the end, all of the lumber and metal goods have been sold to the Goblins here and the wagons are now loaded with palettes of leather, fur and dried meat. There are several huge clay pots of some sort of viscous liquid called Lanolin and equally large clay pots containing various cheeses, most immersed in some sort of oil and sealed inside with wax.

Ross seems very pleased with the trading and calls the end to it and you prepare to leave the Goblin town.

Shortly after mid-day, with a strong sun beating down the caravan pulls out and begins traveling down the road away from Goblintown and toward the Elsmere region four or five days away.

The next morning, after a peaceful night, all of you awaken feeling refreshed, stronger and more healthy than you did before you went to sleep the night before!

OOC: Time for all of you to LEVEL UP again. Head on over to the LEVEL UP thread and do your thing! You're now Level 3

"Your group killed that Orc, it's yours." Ross smiles, "Probably, not worth much but even if it is. You lot earned it."

Later you sit with the necklace and cast Detect Magic on it. You chant the secret words under your breath while your hands move. Faint glowing runes appear in the air and anyone watching you see your eyes turn a bright green. Looking down you see a green tint to the stone at the end of the necklace. It contains an Enchantment spell, but that is all you can discover through Detect Magic. Yes, this is a magic item!

Taking an owl feather from your pouch you hold the necklace in your other hand and wave the feather over the stone in the necklace. Chanting softly as you move the feather you feel a warmth coming up from the stone and see it for what it is! This stone contains a Divine spell, one you cannot cast! Closing your eyes you identify the spell as Bless. A Cleric, Druid, or Paladin can invoke Bless once per day from this stone to aid up to 3 of his companions with help from his deity....but, there is more! The divine caster can also cast Bane from this stone once per day. Bane is opposite of Bless in that the caster can cause up to 3 of his enemies to suffer bad luck laid on them by his deity.
