"Good idea Sargent-Major, perhaps the Major can direct you to some likely spots to check out. Be careful, they're either done for the night, or this is all a distraction for something more, I can't decide which"

Re: Inchin: Endgame
I'll wind up my fibre carefully and recover my PRIS. The wrecked PDC looks like a series of pipes - a good place for a gun-barrel to get missed amongst the clutter if we set it right, and a good lump of the turret mechanism to hide a sniper behind and with a good view too. I'll have a check of the guns optics and radar...anything salvageable? CCD optics are relatively robust...radar less so.
I'll then find another position and start looking for observers setting up for the night.
Major...How long do you want me to keep watching for? And is that sanger getting rebuilt just in case they come up with Mortars or something similar? There seems to be plenty of sand - not so many bags.
After the excitement, I suspect that the town will feel relatively quiet - biding its time. Once relieved I might even take the opportunity to do a bit of meditation up here and restore that inner calm that I always strive for and don't always achieve.

Prerna turns to her team. "Okay, back to the roof. Let's see what's left. Easy, how many drones do we have?" She leads her team back to the roof outpost and begins to scan the area.

Jess
(OOC: Jakob's #4 tank crew bailed out (and got royally shot up but saved by the wound dice) Jess' #3 tank was in action when she gave it the good news!)
Jess may be being modest but her crew will vocally disagree - they've already gaffer taped the kill ring on!The Bindoner wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 9:14 pm Thanks Boss, but it was a sitter, an a waste'v a missile, they bailed 'fore I hit.

As the "R" team have come back to the OP, I'll take a look off the back side of the mansion...Anyone taken the opportunity to sneak in/out that way?

Ah, interesting. The buggy was their transport exercising "the better part of valour". Means the Junge were a taxi service, not a part of the force, maybe.

Prerna
Easy replies "Five for sure, ma'am. I'll check nothing caught any of the stray metal".
(OOC: I have to admit that was a "guesstimate" but sounds about right! Willing to be corrected.

"Yes" (you were being very menacing) and "That's seems a reasonable deduction" in that order! The Bindoner wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 10:09 pmAh, interesting. Re: Inchin: Endgame
Freya
Freya can see nothing untoward to the Mansion's rear. However, her exploring reveals further finds. The point defence system on the Mansion's front aspect was likely wrecked by flechette hits before the HE shell hit it - after impact it's FUBAR (in Freya's professional opinion). "Exploring" over to the other corner Freya finds what she immediately recognises as a piece of starship.
She sees a ship's triple missile turret (likely fed from a magazine below in the mansion). However, the missile turrets that Freya has seen don't have nasty looking penetrations into their "gubbins" like this one has... She's not entirely sure but, while not as utterly wrecked as the point defence system, this unit looks most definitely "broken".

Colonel - Don't want to say what's happened on an open channel, but the guard need their mechanic up here pronto. And you may want to look at this for yourself when you're free. Including R groups OP, the guys knew what they were shooting at - It wasn't random.
I'll see if I can run the electronics self-test and get a diagnostic.
Electronics Roll (2d6 + Electronics + INT): [2d6+3] = 7+3 = 10

Frank switches to a private channel with Freya
"The channel's encrypted, tell me what you see. Send pics if you can, I can forward the info to the guard. This just firms up that they have some experienced advising them, and they know what they're doing "

Done...Hardly hit anything but the weaponry and OPs.
The electronics look good but the aerials are damaged and the tubes bent. Fixable, but work for someone with the right tools. Good job the tube was empty or the whole thing might have burned.

"Good Work. We may end up helping them fix it, in the daylight. I'll pass the info on
Frank will pass Freya's info on to the guard, and also find out if Dubbs got through to the Spinward Star.

Daylight? We could have that Pirate Warboat here before that!

Frank
"Unlikely, but if you want to fix it in the dark then feel free. I would suggest you don't use any lighting to avoid the snipers,"
He switches to the main officer channel
"With the PD down we need to entrench ready for their next move. Major, we need LAWs up on the roof, as that is an extremely viable attack vector"

Re: Inchin: Endgame
"On it, Sir. We could use a PGMP up here, and a couple more troopers for sentry duty, too." Prerna replies.
She turns to her team. "Easy, take up one of the drones and set it to your feed. I don't have my helmet right now. Baker, go whistle us up some LAWs, at least four."

Re: Inchin: Endgame
Frank & Jess
Whilst conducting his other conversations via comm Frank is able to monitor the Guard channel which Dubs has set on a repeater in merc HQ.
"Hublot reporting enemy tank successfully engaged!"
"Three and four form line and begin operations - seek and destroy!!!"
"APC dismount and clear that obstacle!"
Jess reports that she's having a mooch about over Barter Town and can observe the Guard pursuing multiple buggies into Star Town. They pour fire into the abandoned #4 tank and brew it up and then elect line formation to enter the BUA on a broad front. Meanwhile, Jess and her team can't see any lurking snipers - but then they're tricky to spot. There's certainly no one obviously lying out on rooftops with long guns that she and her squad can see.
"Oopsey luvvie!" the cleaning crone (a.k.a. Doris Mopp) crashes her trolley into a sentries legs with gleeful bloody mindedness as she emerges from the VIP area. "Thought it was quiet! Party is it? Where's the buffet then? I'm droppin' off the laundered smalls - managed to get most of 'em clean but some of yous owes me double!" She simpers "Got yours an' the Major's done no bother, Colonel! Nice an' fresh". She proceeds to do her laundry run about the rooms whilst ruthlessly "minesweeping" any unattended drinks.

Re: Inchin: Endgame
Remembering the shallow scrapes in the sand the first sniper team we met used Jess has the lads looking for signs of those sorts of emplacements. Temperature anomalies in the surface where a warm body lay, or cool areas where the scrim-net has shielded the sand during the day's heat.Meanwhile, Jess and her team can't see any lurking snipers - but then they're tricky to spot. There's certainly no one obviously lying out on rooftops with long guns that she and her squad can see.
It is possible there will be similar anomalies on rooves or windows of houses that have been used recently for observation.
Oh, that can't end well... Armour at night with one squad of infantry among them entering an urban environment.and then elect line formation to enter the BUA on a broad front.
Colonel Cross, Sir, the Guard're about ter send their vehicles with inadequate support into Startown. There's nothing good theyc'n do there, an' plenty ter go wrong. Do I observe, offer support, or leave?
Re: Inchin: Endgame
Prerna & Freya
Prerna points out that the myriad of flelchettes now studding the face of the mansion centre on the PD system. It appears that the hits on the recon team and their sangar were either a bonus or collateral damage.
(OOC: This slipped out of sequence a bit but better late than never ...
Can't get the staff ...
)
Freya determines that the turret's launcher has received major damage to its systems but is repairable with a half day's work. A weapons tech's advice would also be helpful.BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 10:59 pm Including R groups OP, the guys knew what they were shooting at - It wasn't random.

"Negative Sargent-Major, do not pursue. Stay back and observe. With the PD system down we need the TAC to protect the mansion. There's not much cover a single carrier could give to a line anyway"
