"Yes...I've heard truly wild stories of the impact of fungi upon mortal bodies and minds. I will pay close attention to her when she returns and will provide my diagnosis."

It does make sense to check all the previous options before we move on. We're not even sure that is the gem we are looking for, are we? I agree we should head back and check the double doors. "
Sorry...which set of double doors? I see the stairway into the darkness...do you mean the doors back at room 36 here?

Leaving his position in the back he'll head for the mushrooms as well.

Yep, the one with the dry fountain and the big cyclops statue!

Hard to believe we've made over 10 pages of posts since then.

Sik agrees with the rest of the group, nodding along as they talk about going back to the doors. He realizes that as they go deeper, he has increasingly lost track of where they are within this hellish realm, and wonders if he could even find the way back out if he tried.

Magda and Skavi

The Ixian witch looks on with concern as several members of her party begin a 300-foot journey down the cliff path to a stand of fantastic flora and who knows what else. But at least it's not the druid lass going by herself, she muses.

After a few moments she crooks her arm and Skavi runs down it to join the smaller group, running along with them over the path that zigzags back and forth, while Magda watches from above.

Under The Zakath Desert
Bottomless Chasm?
No Idea On Time Or Day

Visually infatuated by the massive mustard colored mushrooms at the bottom of this huge chamber, Ceana starts walking down the switchback ramp towards their glow. While most of the others decide to take the wait-and-see approach, a few of her coworkers decide to follow. Kain, Belloc, Taibhse, and Skavi the rat all stay with the Druid as she descends the long steep path to bottom of ths 300+ foot tall cliff face. A short while into their march, and without notice, Kain suddenly transforms back into his normal body again, the leather cloak with the oversized cowl resuming its usual shape upon the Cleric's back.

It is difficult to track the splinter groups progress from above, as the switchbacks hide them often and the light is quite dim to human vision in most areas down here. Eventually after a few more minutes pass, they see the others make it to the bottom of the chamber and head in the direction of the massive toadstools.

Despite the humidity and the roaring noise of the nearby waterway, Ceana, Kain, Belloc, and Taibhse move closer to the huge shrooms. The odor they give off as you approach is not one that is familiar to any of you, and it certainly doesn't smell as nice as mustard. The ground here is a combination of soggy mulch and rough muddy stone, making the approach rather slippery. The smelly flesh of the thick tree-trunk stems stretches upwards almost 20 feet over your heads directly in front of you. The air is thick with moisture in this underground chasm.

Drest

Drest keeps watch from above as the others check out the mushroom forest.

Akhilleus considers descending with the others to stand guard at the end of the downward path. But at the last moment, he prefers to stay still and wait above, as there are enough people below to mount a minimal defense until the others descend, in case of danger.

Kainaxarthos

He winces as the ground suddenly comes up to meet his feet. "Huh. How long was that do you think? Ah, and my voice is back to normal, excellent."

Kain scrunched his nose. "Such a wonderful smell you've discovered, Ceana. What's the plan, grab a chunk and head back?"

Taibhse

Let's Ceana maintain the lead. He wonders about these were they cultivated and for food or defense? Or, did they come after this was abandoned? His caution in part is due to his ability to counter poisons if needed.

Despite her limited visibility from the clifftop, Magda can monitor the lower group's progress by witchcraft through Skavi's senses, albeit only sight and hearing. The curious smells of the toadstool forest are not transmitted. The Ixian gasps softly, sharing her familiar's brief startlement when he sees Kain abruptly return to his normal human form during the descent.

Ceana scrunches her nose as well. "It is a bit...cloying, isn't it?"
"As for a plan, well, I wondered if we could somehow use a part of these" - she looks up, craning her neck at the towering shroom - "mushrooms to help us in some way. Taibhse, how do we take a sample?"
She looks around for a smaller mushroom to possibly take.

Cyril peers down at the part exploring the mushrooms.
"What are they doing down there? Ceana keeps wandering in and out of the torchlight. I do hope she doesn't try eating them until we are some place marginally safe."
