Adventure Section 1.0

Lloyd climbed through gantry into the belly of the shuttle, more than a little curious if they carried any cargo along with the passengers. He took a look at the shuttle’s landing gear, trying to determine if the shuttle was heavy or no. He was mildly surprised that Garrett seemed comfortable piloting the shuttle as well. But, the man was an entrepreneur, who knew what other hidden talents he might have.

It occurred to him that he knew next to nothing about the others he would be working with on the job, so he resolved to find out a bit more.

During takeoff, he seemed to close his eyes and relax. He was watching the others, such as he could see for any insights.

From the way the big fellow reacted, he presumed he was new to space flight. The others, he either could not see or could not easily discern. He busied himself while they coasted, placing some of the newer items on Velcro patches in his coverall. The anorak he kept, the overall effect was a few layers of concealment.

When they had docked he observed the unusually cool reception. There were a lot of reasons an underling might be less happy to see the boss. Most of them pointed to some misconduct.

Garrett seemed intent on getting away on some errand, so Lloyd delayed his debarking for a quick inspection of the shuttle and its interior. ((Does he notice anything unusual? Or any sign of cargo? INT 45)).

Once he had finished his once over, he would follow the others out. He wanted to speak to the other five team members to understand what roles they filled.

As the group of them began to drift away to other pursuits, Lloyd suggested “We should decide on a comm frequency or channel, in case we need to find you come morning. I noticed Garrett was not specific about the hour we were to depart. We can use channel 112.21, it sounds clear...” he had listened on that frequency for a while but had heard no special traffic.

Once he said that, he realized he was tired. Moreover he knew very little about Pale, either.

Later, when he had checked out his room, he did a basic information search: who ran Thornton Town, what was the law level, and were there any special considerations or customs practiced here.

He called up a map of the town, looking to get a look at how it was laid out.

Before heading up to his room, but after Mr. Garret has headed for the elevator, Rick turns to the others and asks, "What about maybe we head up but then be back here in 10 minutes and be looking around the town a little this evening? Maybe get a feel for the place?"

Vigg is grateful for the room. The trip here was as routine as he remembers from his short time in the service. Once in the room, Vigg casually searches the room; an old habit from the service.

He engaged the computer and queried for maps, history of New Pale, Garret's mining operations, any news of violence, property theft, or corporate espionage or rivalry. All the data that he gathers, he downloads onto his crono-comm for later retrieval.

Once he is done with his research, he pockets his room key into one of his many pockets and then he went out to look for a tavern frequented by miners to try and find some techs to chat up and see if he can learn anything.

Stroyck (Rick) goes with the others to find a bar or tavern nearby from which to learn more about Thorton Town and the mine.

In particular, Rick wants to get into some conversations with some miners and just get a general feel for their attitude towards the mines. He does not plan to ask any pointed questions.

Thomas goes to his room and tries to catch some of the local news. Since Lloyd seems quite computer savvy, Thomas decides to accompany him to the miners tavern and ask if he had found anything of interest.

Okay, the local news channels all are running different stories. Most of them are talking about the Sathar incident in Zebulon system and how this could be another push by the 'worms' and that a call to arms should be sent out. The other channels have local weather, some stories on expeditions slated to leave for unknown star systems, and one on mysterious objects seen on local sensors mostly at night. By the time interceptors get there, the objects have vanished.

The Miner's Mirth- Those of you who enter the tavern see a very well lit room with 20 tables as well as more than a dozen chairs at the bar itself. The tavern is alive with the sounds of conversations and laughter. Several customers are trying their hands at a game similar to darts and multiple games of cards, board games, and computer games are being played around the room. There are two barkeeps, 4 servers, and 30+ customers in here. All four races are represented here. As you gaze around at the sights, a server comes up to you. "Please help yourself to a table, I will be with you shortly. My name is Varenzia (female Yazirian) and I will be your server." She nods at you and gives a wink at T'prin before moving off to continue her duties.

As you move into the tavern, several tables of patrons look your way and frown a bit before returning to their conversations or games. You find a table that will accommodate eight beings around it and sit down....

When Lloyd finished his search, he came out into the hallway, and was only a little surprised to see Thomas there. “Spot you a round, Maybe?” It was always good to have someone around. They wandered out of the hotel toward a likely looking place, The Pulled Ore. he guessed it was a nautical reference, or an off colour joke. But they moved to another place, that seemed popular with the miners.

Lloyd was not openly carrying a weapon, but that did not mean he might not be armed. The frag grens he had locked in a lockbox, but what else he carried depended on what his research about the law level here might be.

“Thomas,” he said, “Right? What brought you to Garrett’s attention?”

Stroyck (Rick) will try to get into conversation with others at the tavern. He doesn't ask any pointed questions about the mine but is more interested in what the locals are talking about. If their main topic of conversation is troubles at the mine, that means that something significant is going on there. It they aren't then maybe the problems are not so widespread and were hushed up in some way.

The draselite Vigg rolls up and asks, "Thomas...er, I'm not the best with names, but can I join you? Maybe we can get these miners to talk to us? I will try to engage the tech gaggle!... I'll even buy the first round!"

Okay, T'prin, you sit at the table and order your drink. Within a few minutes, the server brings you a mug of thick Yazirian ale to drink. You sip at it and watch the tables around you. Make an intuition check for me.
