Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug 2021
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Fingers tries to stay hidden until he sees how Heingist's turning goes.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Bandy swipes at any of the wights that might come towards them...
Penderyn Longsword THAC016 [1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5 Dam [1d8+2] = 4+2 = 6

Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Hengist steps forward, raising his holy symbol - the first wight flees outright, another tries to run at him directly but ends up equally terrified (crit fumble) and flees as well. Bandy and Markd step forward with longswords drawn to cut down the others who approach more confidently. Markd's blade slices down one wight with brutal precision (Critical hit, 10hp). The other two wights come at Bandy and Markd respectively, but are unable to get through their parrying defense. Winnie sends out a magical bolt of energy from the rear, blasting the second wight which comes at Markd. (-4) As the doorway allows advantage, both Winnie and Fingers remain safely behind their companions, hiding at the rear.

Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Bandy hopes he has better luck the second time around...
Initiative [1d6] = 4
Penderyn Longsword THAC016 [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7 Dam [1d8+2] = 3+2 = 5
I mean... like a LOT more luck, dice roller. Not just two pips.

Did Markd's first attack not hit? I know it was close, but I was thinking wights were ac5.
Markd swings to hit the the wight closest to him, hoping to finish him off after the missile attack.
lngswrd (+2) (Thac0 14) [1d20+4] = 12+4 = 16; damage [1d8+4] = 5+4 = 9
He continues his precision with the new sword.
lngswrd (+2) (Thac0 14) [1d20+4] = 18+4 = 22; damage [1d8+4] = 7+4 = 11

Winnie falls back a bit and let's Markd and Bandy finish the ghouls off. She keeps Mrs. Dash and Sprinkles at her side, allowing Fingers to concentrate on the ghouls.
She'll save her magic for now.

Good call - I usually ignore rolls under 10 and didn't realize your THACO was that good.Did Markd's first attack not hit? I know it was close, but I was thinking wights were ac5.
Markd's first blow hit, but didn't kill the wight; the second blow then finished it off.
No change to outcome.
Hengist? Action for round 2?

Hengist will take a mace swing at the wight threatening Bandy Mace vs Undead (THAC0 18, STR +1, Imbued +2) [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6 damage [1d6+3] = 2+3 = 5

Fingers remains back and hidden (he hopes) in front of Sprinkles. If one of the wights somehow makes it back to threaten his dog, Fingers will try to backstab the wight.
Backstab w/longsword +1 (THAC0 17): [1d20+6] = 11+6 = 17, [1d8x2] = 4x2 = 8+2

Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Winnie stays back, holding Mrs. Dash and Sprinkles, while Fingers draws his sword and conceals himself to the side of the door in case the wights make it through.
The wights hiss and gnash their teeth, lunging at Markd and Bandy with their wicked claws. The pair deftly dodge, Markd's longsword making quick work of both wights - snick snick! - and dropping the dried husks of their body parts to the floor before Bandy and Hengist can land their blows.
There is no sign of the two wights which fled from Hengist's holy might. The chamber is quiet.

Fingers exhales and enters the room, giving it a closer examination. He especially looks for writings.

As the action draws to a close, Winnie looks around the corner, over Bandy's head. Are they all gone already? Nice work! Once able, she moves into the chamber, inspecting the ghouls' caskets by prodding around with her staff. She also looks at the outsides of the caskets to see how they are adorned. She is rife with questions. Who do you think those people were, and how long were they trapped here? Should we risk the closed caskets? Do we have any holy water?
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Bandy has one vial of holy water in his pack.
OOC: In retrospect, we should have considered this and brought more holy water with us...
Bandy nervously looks about, trying to figure out if he can see where the wights came from (open caskets or whatever).

Winnie points out that there are five open coffins and five ghouls. There is no way to know for certain, but it seems reasonable to me that those ghouls came from these caskets. Perhaps they are fell guardians of some sort? She pauses in thought, then adds, Gargoyles outside, then skeletons, ghouls and who-knows-what-else inside. What could they all be protecting? She shivers at the concept of such necromantic power.Marullus wrote:Markd opens the door, swinging it open and shining Winnie's light into the tomb beyond. A pair of ornate stone coffins rest in the center of the chamber, lids closed. In each of the alcoves of the room, the party does not see the expected statues. Instead, they see additional coffins, each one with the lid broken or ajar. There is an angry hiss from Markd's left - five sallow-fleshed wights crouch, ready to attack the interloper who stands in the doorway!
Edit: corrected typo "girls" to "ghouls"

"Yeah, the guardians sure fell all right," gloats Fingers.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
FYI, Rusty, Ghouls <> Wights. Ghouls paralyze. Wights level drain. So we need to watch our asses.
Bandy checks the opened wight coffins with Winnie. "Fingers, maybe check the two coffins in the middle for traps?"

"You got it, boss," says Fingers. "But I figure the trap with most coffins is what's inside." He takes a close look at the coffins anyway.
BTW, it has been pointed out that I play Fingers as a sniveling coward who doesn't hold up his fair share of melee combat. That's because Fingers is a sniveling coward who doesn't hold up his share of melee combat (unless Sprinkles is threatened, at which point Fingers grows a spine). Also, he has amazingly low HP for a PC of his level and his AC is not great. Thus, his usual plan is to stay well back and either use his bow or, if he would have to fire in to melee, hide. Hopefully he pulls his weight in other ways.

Those wights are not the proper guardians of this place. It is good that we have come to bring the cleansing light of Holy Baudh.
Hengist will only smite the unbelievers if they actively desecrate a tomb or something, I promise. Smiting the undead is right on.
