What does mortally mean vs severely?

I am not always consistent but...
Dying: negative HP
Mortal: 0 or 1 HP remaining
Severe: >70% HP loss
Moderate: ~50% HP loss
Mild: <40% HP loss
Superficial <10% HP loss

"Dying" confused me a little. Is there any different terminology between "bleeding out" and "negative HP, but stable?"

I usually note bleeding separately. And unconscious. So, it originally said "(Dying, unconscious, bleeding)" and I deleted words as you resolved them.

So Dying is just anything below 0 not literally slipping away?

Correct - slipping away is "bleeding."
-2 how a round and third round is save vs death. Check out the house rules thread.

...can I admit now how anguishing it was to have five PCs die in a room with a Rod of Resurrection lying dusty and forgotten on the floor?

I really like the map here. What tool(s) are you using to generate those?

My map is an artless effort done in MS Paint. I find a hex grid that has a transparent background and then use the paint bucket fill tool to color each hex. Then I manually type on the numbering and labels. I hate updating it because I need to redo it from scratch each time, hence being willing to pay someone in XP to maintain it as a player.
That also allows you to put more on it by player-initiative - if I'm updating it I only list what I think the cartographer at the Wooden Keep knows.

The townsfolk sigh wistfully at the narrative, then afterwards look with respect on the wizards and dwarf. "Real good, helping the caravans like that," old.men say, slapping Olaf on his back.
Sheesh! Even Markd could have been successful with that roll.

ever seen the 'Fire Leap' scene from the original creepy Wicker Man? seems something the witches might enjoy participating in before we light the sacrificial bonfires.
Filmed in Culzean Castle, south Ayrshire on the same west coast of Scotland as me but I live 180 miles further northwest so only pass it on the motorways. No quite a Dracula-esque place but still loads of tourists (mostly oriental females) dance in the woods and around the standing stones!

Culzean castle?

I would go there, even with hoards of oriental female tourists dancing amongst the stones.
