I sent Rabon a PM yesterday with my thoughts, so once he approves or counters them he can do the first roll. He will take the first and third roll, I will do the second. Rabon will announce out specific actions.

My sharpened sword has +1D on all rolls because of sharpness, but I have -1D for being in dimness. I doubt if we can hand the lantern off in between
combat rounds; but I'll tie my Early Riser trait into being used to doing stuff in dim early morning light, to gain +1D. Once Rabon tells me what action I'll be taking in round 2 I'll announce what type of action my sword will give me a bonus to.

Does the trait bonus last for one dice roll, or one conflict?

The Early Riser bonus is for one roll only.

"Used to the dim, morning light" is clever. Good job.

Ludanto, If Berry wanted to be part of this, would we be able to retroactively allow him to have a torch in hand due to the confusion earlier? (Nothing ventured, nothing gained...) It might increase our Disposition by one due to his help...

As for strategy, I think that the initial movement with these things is pretty telegraphed. It's attacking Thag. I was initially thinking Rabon would defend, countering their attack, but we don't really have any disposition to lose. So we could go with Attack, Attack, Defend.

Thoughts? (I'm VERY open to suggestions here!)

Since Ludanto has already locked in his moves, it's ok to kibitz here before finalizing ours.

If Berry could help there would only be a 50% chance of getting one more hit point, and then we would have to split the 7 between all three of us, two of us would only have 2hp. Potentially all three of us would only have 2hp. But it would negate the -1D I would have for being in dim light. But it would take a turn for them to get a light lit unless one of the three of them has the "always keep the light lit" instinct.

I was thinking that if Rabon did a maneuver we might be able to get a -1D disadvantage to our opponent, or maybe even +2D to us, then I follow with an alpha-strike Attack using 3D (Fighter) +1D sword, +1D sharpened sword, +1D Early Riser trait, -1D dim light, with a small chance of a +2D advantage.

What was telegraphed has yet to ACTUALLY be the opening move. :)

Darn, used up a torch, but it confirms my suspicion - this darkness drops the light two levels - lanterns give light + dim to 1 + 1, torches to 0 + 0, and I bet candles would be completely useless. I wonder if the flame of the torch would still burn if used as a weapon? Would we want to try that?

We only have the lantern for this turn/conflict, then it runs out of oil, according to Ludanto's log this fight will be the 3rd test. Lighting a torch now means we'll have light outside the chapel for 1 turn after the lantern goes out. I think the grind will hit us when the torch goes out.

So, don't make a test out there or Rabon and I will lose our light in here!

Yeah, my assumption if that it is Attacking.

Attack vs either Defend or Maneuver is a vs. test. So that makes no difference. We're at full health at the moment, so we don't need to Defend to regroup to recover lost disposition. So Maneuver would be my choice, Rabon draws them into a position where I can alpha-strike them.

Whatever ploy Rabon picks for first action, I will add +1D with my Fighter skill.

I like it.
Opening move from Rabon is a Maneuver.

Health 5 + 1D (Help from Thag) + 1D (Devil May Care trait) +1s (OoM) = 7D +1s

Can I tap his Demanding Nature at this point? It was how I had set it up.

Don't we need to announce all three actions for the turn? So Maneuver, Attack, ???

It's not like you're going to cheat, but the form so far has been to reveal all three when you're ready to continue.

Also, no Demanding Nature. Demanding is, by the very idea, pretty much a social thing.

Would tapping Nature and using "Running" be easier to describe? Fancy footwork to draw them out of position, etc.

We still need a 3rd action. It will be your action, so it's your decision on what to do. Maneuver to build up for possible 4th thru 6th actions? Or a defend to just hold and maybe recover if we need it? This might be a failing of the system, or a way you could "cheat". If after each rounds you decide what you are doing means you can react to the results of the previous round. Ludanto's tied into 3 actions so we should be too.

Fancy footwork isn't running.

While I'm open to suggestions, I really don't see a valid use for a Human Nature in this conflict.

You can still tap Nature, of course, but it's a guarantee of at least one Tax.

I think an attack is as good a guess as any...

Maneuver, Attack, Attack.

I'll tap nature.

If think you could justify Running. You run circles around the beasts, occasionally poking them with your weapon, drawing them together and spinning them around so they are tangled up with each other.

Works for me, we've got our actions locked. Only thing left is convince Ludanto that you can use Running in a Maneuver combat.

Let's just say that there's not really room to run in here.

I see the human Running nature as being in a hurry to get somewhere else - either to something or away. We aren't running away from this thing. BUT... If Rabon was far enough away, he would be running to the fight...

You ninja'd my post. I'll mark it as a taxed Nature then.

A successful Maneuver gives us the bonuses for impedes them, I assume only Attacks and Feints can actually cause Disposition loss?

I'll take the gain position for +2D and force the -1D on them to impede them.
