Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
Summary Post - A Dwarf's Guide to Cleaving and a Humans Guide to Pugilism
The Giant Rat leaps back from the dwarf and bunches up it's haunches, ready to make another leap for the dwarf, intent on tasting more of his flesh. Right before the creature can make it's move a heavy fist comes crashing down on its back, causing a high pitched squeal to emanate.
That's a hit for the young bald kid! Unfortunately the damage is soaked up by it's armor!
The Giant Rat turns its red eyes to it's new attacker, intent on biting and clawing whatever it needs to in order to be free. As the creature begins to turn it never see's the axes coming down for it, like two headsman's axes the blades find purchase on the creatures neck, slicing into the fur and muscle, as well as cutting clean through the bone.
Hamish does 17 points of damage plus... [1d6] = 6, equaling a dead rat!
Two loud "chink" noises can be heard as the axes actually embed themselves slightly into the stone floor, the creatures head rolling away from the scene of carnage, it's once vibrant and glowing red eyes now dull and lifeless. The scratchings and hissing noises from around the room start to recede, finding the targets to be worth too much trouble.
Combat is done! Good work everyone involved, the ninja rat shall no more harm the innocents!
I will be updating the combat and loot thread later on which will have the experience gained from this endeavor.
Till then... Actions!

Lucas prepares to scream in terror as the rat turns to face him after his ineffective pummeling attempt, but when the twin axes of Hamish split the beasts face from its body he quickly "calms" down "Oh no, oh no, are you OK Hamish!? Did you die!?. Practically climbing over the dwarf Lucas scans his body like a little probe "Oh dear, OOOOOOh dear, your foot! Oh please don't die I only just met you!

Summary Post - Post-Battle and New Dangers!
Lucas is the first to spring up and run to Hamish, inspecting him over, even as Hamish waves him off with a "Eh I'll live.", limping, but only slightly, out of the Larder with his prize tucked into his satchel to either be drank or sold at his discretion.
Aedilberct looks over the scene, as well as the two victors, "Perhaps we can find a healer in the village, I know not any spells of healing... Athras, who I hope is still looking after the unconscious Eshara, still has those healing potions we found, yes?" As the human mage poses his suggestions a loud banging can be heard from upstairs, faint grunts of effort and strain echoing down to them. Aedilberct's eyes widen before rushing out towards the stairs, yelling, "Malzahel! Hold on!!"
Actions?! Do you two follow the worried mage? Go out the front door? Play a nice game of scrabble?!

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
I'd settle for a nice game of scrabble right about now, I'm sure the mage will be fine
Lucas will quickly grab his not-so throwing knife and charge up the stairs, while drawing a second knife. His punch did nothing but anger a rat and he has learned his lesson about going in unarmed to a fight from now on.

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
Summary Post - Ugly Tavern Brawl Minus the Tavern!
The three make their way towards the stairs, rushing to aid their companion. Hamish yelling out "Hold on help be comin fer ya!" in support as he makes his way after the two others. Reaching the stairs the trio look towards the top and find Malzahel on the ground in an intense struggle against a twisted and ugly creature, humanoid in nature but twisted, squat but powerfully built physically with skin that looks pale and burnt but still leathery all at the same time.
Malzahel is currently pinned down on the floor, his bow held firmly in both his hands in defense, a twisted and misshapen object, resembling an axe, if embedded into the middle of the wood, the creature holds onto it and continues to press through, trying with all it's might to break the bow and meet flesh. Blood runs freely down Malzahel's arms and face, while the creature sports its own wounds as two arrows still protrude from it's chest and shoulder, blackish thick blood dripping down the arrow shafts.
Aedilberct's face begins to drain of color as he watches the scuffle, he brings up his wand and points it at the creature, calling out to Malzahel, "Do not let that things blood enter you!" With those words it is clear to the others what they are currently facing, a Darkspawn.

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
What are the rules for tackling a creature? Assuming that Lucas can build up enough speed, could he tackle the monster off of Malzahel and not get into a grappling state with said monster?

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
Something like that would normally require an opposed strength test, we each roll 3d6+str modifier and whoever gets highest wins.YamItheonly1 wrote:What are the rules for tackling a creature? Since it is preoccupied with trying to kill the elf I could normally give you some modifiers as well except they're on the top of the stairs so the elevation advantage goes to the darkspawn...
it's on top of Malzahel, you really want to throw your axe at it?GreyWolfVT wrote:I was about to throw my axe at it you really want to tackle it?

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
What about judo throwing pulling the darkspawn down the stairs? That way we could get the monster off of our ally and into optimal axing range? If Lucas can somehow do that it would put a buffer between the wounded Malzahel and the creature so he doesn't have to lose any more HP

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
The short answer is I have no attacks now with one person under the beast and the other tackling it.

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
Well, Judo in particular using the opponents weight against them, essentially throwing their center off balance for take-down and counter related moves. Doing anything like that would require the darkspawn to be attacking you first, otherwise it's just a grapple style attack of you grabbing it and pulling, which is totally acceptable if you want to do that.YamItheonly1 wrote:What about judo throwing pulling the darkspawn down the stairs? Just don't forget, you all have weapons and it's in a struggle with Malzahel...

So... Is Lucas gonna try and Judo the darkspawn? Will Hamish continue with his axe throwing?

(Aedilberct) [Defense: 11][AR: 0] (HP: 30/30) (Mana: 26/29)
Action: Cringes!
Aedilberct cringes, stows his wand, mounts the stairs to within 20 yards (if needed), and begins a magical incantation; something he chooses to do only in desperate need. "The need dictates action. Forgive me," he curses as he moves to action.
His lips move and twist as a fluid series of syllables exit, weaving a blue radiant energy all about his torso and head. The energy forms into a large chunk of bluish glowing stone and flies at the Darkspawn with a final word.
Casting Roll: [1d6] = 6, [1d6] = 6, [1d6] = 4, +Magic (3)
Stonefist DMG: [1d6+3] = 3+3 = 6 (+3 if opponent fails CON/Stamina vs Spellpower)
Note: Creature is knocked prone if he fails his check
Spell Power: 10 + Magic [3] = 13

Re: Chapter 1 - Amateur Style Mercenaries
Summary Post - Bold Actions and New Fears
The trio acts immediately upon seeing their dalish companion sprawled out on the ground in a deadly struggle with what can only be a Darkspawn. Hamish hefts his axe, ready to throw it, while Lucas begins to ascend the stairs, his hands balled into fists. Aedilberct was the first to act however, scaling the first few steps and performing an incantation. A blueish hue of magical energy begins to form around the mages arms eventually conjuring a large projectile of hardened stone, Aedilberct hurls it towards the Darkspawn and it collides with the twisted being with a resounding clap as the energy disperses upon impact.
Genlock Spell CON Test (+2 for CON, +2 for Magical Resistance): [3d6+4] = 11+4 = 15
Just as the spell impacts the creature the group ascending the stairs can see a human dressed in hardened leathers and wielding a sword and shield, charging with shield raised towards the Darkspawn; Giving the twisted creature a forceful smack with his shield. As a result the Darkspawn twists about while on the ground and attempts to swing at the new assailant.
Genlock Attack (BattleAxe): [1d6] = 2, [1d6] = 5, [1d6+5] = 1+5 = 6 Damage: [2d6+3] = 9+3 = 12
The axe hits home with ease, cutting into the man's thigh as a nasty gash. Total of 8 damage done to Estienne Gosse!
And now the fight is on! Let me see those actions!!!

Hamish instead charges at the darkspawn and attacks it with his axes. Dual Battle Axe [1d6] = 1, [1d6] = 5, [1d6+2] = 5+2 = 7, Damage:[2d6] = 6 dmg1 [2d6] = 5 dmg2
