very true. Hmm well a bard can play music that inspires the party it doesn't have to have words right?

It would make spell-casting interesting.

Not that you're likely to get much use from the druid spells anyway.

once more you make a valid point ..... well needless to say I think for me to make something I am not attached to is fairly unlikely.... unless it is well i really don't know what non speaking would be part of the puzzle. Can't say that I'd have problems if i was playing a monk, or anything from the Oriental classes..... not that I think those would fall into place in Ravenloft. Just what classes are allowed here beyond my knowledge of the basics (Thief, Cleric, Fighter, Ranger, Druid, MU, Paladin.) plus all of the multi-class/dual class options.

A monk might be interesting, but I suspect that at the levels we're looking at, a monk would still be at the "easily killed" level instead of a "death machine" level.

BTW, I might yet bump the XP, but we'll see. I've been thinking about where the new party will stand, power-wise. On the one hand, Strahd now has the Sunsword (or will by the time the new party can get to the castle), and perhaps a new set of minions. On the other, you know things about the castle you didn't know before and certain threats have been neutralized. For example, you know the layout of much of the castle, that you shouldn't dawdle there, that Strahd isn't the only vampire in the castle, that you should pay attention to Madam Eva's prophecies, etc. The living tower is no longer a threat. The green slime is now on the ground instead of the tunnel ceiling. You know at least one way out of the castle (granted, it involves having few enough survivors that one polymorphed PC can carry the other). You have a couple of +3 maces you didn't have before. The new party will be more powerful and informed than the other one was.

The question is whether that will be enough to defeat Strahd. It won't be easy. It will be possible.

Though of the survivors that are not charmed or zombies most of them were not there for most of the castle exploration. So really us players are more aware and the characters are not. But anyways as you can tell I am split on my decision to leave one the one hand I don't want to get sucked into another character I like and die again but the other I am getting over the loss of Fendt.

We can assume the PCs talked to each other, so the two survivors know what the other PCs knew.

New rule on magic items: I don't have time to roll them, so pick your own magic items. Each new character can have up to 15,000 gp worth of magic items (use the prices in the OSRIC 5.2 PDF), but no single item may be worth more than 4,000 GP. And no potions of undead control or scrolls of protection vs. undead. :P

The PCs know there are wraiths. How do you "kill" a wraith? Do wraiths have any weaknesses?

quite sure they need to be hit with a magical +1 weapon to do them any harm other than that they appear to dis like light.

The sound of cackling laughter floats down from the castle high above—or is it just the wind and your imagination?
Likely it is real. So are the new characters in the tavern?

Hold your horses for a bit. Castran and Bragar aren't to safety quite yet. As far as they know, the cavalry isn't coming. And who knows—the cavalry might not come for months. What will they do?

Castran will suggest going to Ireena's house or the church. What does Bragar think of those options?
