I don't know what the rules for reading body language and voice tone is. She might be good at that (if it's some sort of perception style thing) or absolute rubbish if it's more charisma based.
By RAW, that sort of thing is a Perception Test. However, depending on the situation, I might allow a Social Skill depending on what the character is attempting to do.

Communicating via gigs could be a little complicated and time consuming. But it could be fine via the bands site on the matrix!
Or they could go through Falstaff...
shaidar wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 4:35 pm Speaking of the band, I was thinking of taking songwriting (rock) as my second hobby skill, unless someone else wants that job. :)
Nothing says a band can't have more than one songwriter.

I wasn't. But I just Googled them... Cool.

Falstaff is a good idea.

I was going to go for a cheap guitar, but now I'm going to have to go for the 1500Y one and spend 4 points on guitar (electric) for 3/5 skill and 2 points on songwriting (rock) to give 1/3 skill, so I think we do need another songwriter. :)

I do like the idea of the group accommodation, although we could end up hating each other.

No one said that the band terminology that the group is using has to be a real band. That could just be the way you talk about it on the phone and com...Though, it could be a fun element to throw into the mix if others want to pick up and instrument or singing or something as Knowledge or Hobby Skills. A garage band and a shadowrunning team... Fun!

You can also each have your own Lifestyles and chip in to buy one for the team. It could be a safehouse or HQ separate from where you live.

I think I'm tentatively going to name my character Skye, since this time around she's going to be a Raven shaman (the original version was Cat, but I don't like that totem in SR3). It's a good working name for now, at least.

If the upper floor of this building has a loft, then Skye could claim that area for herself. Because again, Raven. It could even have a skylight.

As for the band, to be honest Biffy Clyro is a bit... pop-rock for my personal taste. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just not for me. If I can squeeze in the Trid Entertainment spell, maybe Skye just provides a lightshow for the band.

My character will be fine with any music style you guys are into. Be it rock, hard rock, metal, techno or whatever. As long as he has something to bob his head to while working on his art.
Want the loft to be part of the group's high lifestyle? I could see a large communal room and some small rooms who stay private. Including a room elevated from the rest.
That is, if everyone would feel this to be a good idea.
It depends on how many people want in to see if it is viable price-wise. If everyone joins the price wouldn't be so bad.
I'll have some other lifestyles outside from this one as well. Got a squatter just to store my bike.
Will need a low or squatter as extra safe house as well. Will probably place that one on the other side of the city for tactical reasons.

I'm happy if we want go with a different musical flavour, hard rock or metal maybe, I'll just tweak his specialisation.

It makes sense for Rev to also keep a low lifestyle (small apartment) near his families auto-shop. It would be useful for when he is working late there on his vehicles.

Okay. gang! Cool. I now have a campaign forum. I am going to start trying to figure out how to add you and stuff. Please don't post in the campaign forum until I get it (at least somewhat) set up. This is a new medium for me, and I learn more slowly post-COVID than I used to. It's not that much different from the forums we had on the old BBS, so I don't think it will take me that long. For now, though, keep chatting and planning here. Thank you.

Probably mostly trying to read body language (if we can see them), or listening to voice inflections and the like to try to get a read on their emotional state. Sounds like then her Perceptive edge would apply then? If so, then yeah I totally imagine Baby Blue just sitting there and listening/watching carefully, filing the event away in her crazy good memory, and telling her fellows whether she she thinks the Johnson is on the level and what not.

Also, I took singing 4 and dancing 2 for her hobbies. I'm totally down with us being a legit band. I imagine Baby Blue is a total wallflower, doing her best not to be noticed. Except when she's on stage. Then she's singing and dancing and pouring her heart and soul into the music.

I think the accomodations sound reasonable. So, I'd be paying 10% of 10K a month, so 1000 nuyen for the first month? That should work. After one month for 1000Y, I have just under 1500 left (before dividing by 10). So I could afford two months of that off the bat. Alternatively, I could afford 1 month of rooming at the high lifestyle, and 1 month of a low lifestyle safehouse (probably arranged through Neon).

I'm also down with a style like the one you posted @shaidar.

I'm still trying to somehow fit attributes and skills in before even thinking about money (taking Elf and Shaman is literally half the build points by themselves), so I haven't looked at lifestyles or other gear yet.

Question: One of the Stealth specializations is 'Theft', so it seems all kinds of mundane thieving seems to fall under stealth. So that should include lockpicking mundane locks and pick pocketing, yes? Since it specifically includes 'sleight of hand'.

Your first month would be free, because I will pay for everyone. Obviously I can't put up the 16k each month, so afterwards we split the bill by all. If we have all 6 we could get 'high' lifestyle and pay less than a middle lifestyle.
Which means we will have a better time healing, let alone for all the other rp related benefits.
If not everyone joins and the total bill becomes to high, we can switch to a medium lifestyle. Simply divide the total amount by all members to see how much you have to pay.
High is 10k+10% per guest.
Middle is 5k+10% per guest.

Personally I think 'high' is the only worthwhile one to team up for. And it is cheaper than paying for a middle solo.

Did you guys want me to pick up an instrument as well?
If so, what instrument is missing and how many points do I need to spend in it not to get kicked out of the band?

Lockpicking mundane locks is it's own skill now. Check a few posts up for the skills from SOTA.
Pick pocketing should still be stealth? But you would have to check that with Chary to be certain.

For lockpicking in particular, uses the rules in State of the Art 2063. Jura posted the page number a few posts back.

You can do it that way. Most of the groups I have seen do it make it more equitable. They added up the total... 10% for each extra person, and then they divided that totally by the number of people. So, if 3 were sharing a Lifestyle, they would pay 120% of the cost and divide that by 3. So, everyone paid their fair share.

Okay.

I see that Disguise is also on that same list for mundane disguises. Reading the spell Mask it doesn't look like there's any need for a complementary skill so a Disguise skill wouldn't really be necessary with Mask?

Ah, ok. I think I misinterpreted the rule when you first mentioned it. I read it as "person A has to pay 100% person of the lifestyle, but person B can ride along for an additional 10%." I read it as more rigid than it actually is.

You shouldn't need Disquise unless you want a backup in case someone sees through the Mask... or are too spent to cast.

You can do it the other way if the first person doesn't mind, but most roomies are more equal than that... Except for me, with my adult children...
