Re: The Oasis
I'm fine with the plan.
An important thing to keep in mind: when the melee starts, everyone should go into melee mode. Abstain from firing missile weapons when others are already in hand to hand combat, since that can hurt them.
So first, trapping the croc, then a missile volley, then hand to hand.
I understand the fighting types will close from the front and the rest may attack the croc from the rear or flanks.

Re: The Oasis
I'm good with that. The only addition specifically for Xenos is that once it looks like the croc is taking the bait, but before the missile volley, he'll cast Chill Touch. I realise the timing on this could be awkward and at a push he'd not bother with the spell rather then miss the volley.

"There is only ONE crocodile right?" she asks just to be sure we are not attempting to lure extra rogue animals from the murky waters.

Re: The Oasis
I see a few issues arising with this plan, so I will ask each of you to look over the map to make sure you understand the layout you’ve suggested.
I will need to know where each of you plans to be situated on the map while the plan is put in place. Through watchful observation, you learn that this creature does not surface if it sees threats nearby.
Is the goat to be tied down in the middle of the net in some way? Staked to the ground?
Which corners of the net were the “pulling” ropes secured to? And which direction do you intend to pull them towards?

Re: The Oasis
I would suggest the pull ropes are attached to the North most corners and it's pulled towards the oasis.
Those pulling the ropes are going to have to be the closest. I'm guessing one person only could hide in the right hand shrubs (?) maybe two at a push, so the rest would have to hide to the right.
I think the goat would be best placed in the centre with its halter staked down so it can't go far we put some foliage near so it can eat.
I'm also thinking that the Croc is going to be suspicious, so the minimum number needed layout the trap while the others hide in the shrubbery (hopefully the obvious people laying the trap will distract from those hiding) , then they go hide too. Then there could be a long wait, hiding, until the Croc decides it's safe enough to investigate.

Re: The Oasis
Drest
Could Drest lay probe near the NE corner of the net with the rope and sort of bury himself with palm fronds or whatever else is laying around? Crocs are pretty fast.

Re: The Oasis
Kang
Kang will be far enough to use his bow (far enough not to be deemed a caution by the croc), yet close enough to move into melee the next round. So I think you can place him anywhere to reflect this.

Re: The Oasis
The way Shaidar described it is the way I envisioned it as well. With Valkrina and Drest having one rope each. I'm thinking Tuurma is within charge range straight north of the net. Maybe by the "N" of the Net?

Xenos will be hiding in the left hand scrub, where it says 'scrub bush'.

Yes, it is possible to use the dried palm fronds to cover yourself in the sandy ground closer to the net, if you prefer.
Do you care which side of the net he hides by? (east or west?)Tamerlaine wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 6:04 pm Kang

Kang will take a side that gives him an unobstructed shot.

Valkrina
Laments at the struggle to come up with a basic plan.
"You know when fishing we just put the maggot on the end of a big hook and toss it in the waters in the hope of getting a bite."
She would suggest we do likewise with the bleating sacrificial goat and then we all combine to drag the hooked critter to shore and then jump upon it.
Call that Plan B.

Re: The Oasis
Hiding is essential. OM has said it: the croc won't come out if it feels threatened with so many of us around.
So goat as bait in the front and palm fronds in order to hide ourselves sounds good to me.
I just hope the croc doesn't get the goat and then goes back to the water.
What if we tie the goat to a rope and pull when the croc starts getting closer? Only crocs can be really fast.

Re: The Oasis
I can tell you this much.....
You will need a good overall plan for this to work well.
Some of your plans are pretty good so far.
Hiding under fronds should work, even if it takes some time for the croc to adjust.
Blood or a commotion in the water will also help to attract it, but not if the croc can still see you afterwards.
I will give you a bit more time to iron out the final details.

Kang will build a short blind using palm fronds that he can kneel behind with a slight opening so he can see out of.

Re: The Oasis
I have placed you at the positions on the map you've suggested. I will assume that Drest, Valkrina, and Tuurma will be at least partially covered in loose sand and dried palm fronds to hide themselves?
Does anyone want to be moved somewhere else?
Just so I have this straight, you intend to pull the net towards the water once the animal arrives?
