CHAPTER 12b: The Fortress of the Plain

Urlando will pause before exiting the fortress, watching to make sure that the three remaining members of the party are safely on their way out. He thinks about his mutilated companions left behind in the alcoves of the corridor and shakes one of his heads. Nothing I could do... he mutters.

It is dark outside the structure. Only the interior light, shining through the exit hole, provides scant illumination of the immediate surroundings which are desert sand and rock.

Podo

Recalling the floating machines that descended from above to repair the wall, Podo glances backwards to look at the top of the tower as he assists Saiph and Max to the nearest rock formation that looks like it might offer some protection or shelter.

Do we have knowledge of the greater area? Like do we know where on the continent this desert is and in relation to that where a forest, water, or civilization might be?

Kurot continues battling the remaining android to make sure everyone has a chance to escape.

Round 14

Denslow and Kurot continue their assault upon the final, relentless adversary. (#4) Kurot is the only one who manages a successful strike (2pt. dmg) that chips away at the severely damaged construct.

Anton and Urlando finally exit the structure and join the others outside, in the dark.

Podo strikes a torch and searches for a rock or outcropping capable of providing cover from observers in the fortress. He sees suitable rocks around 100 yards away on the other side of a shallow depression.

Silvestri frantically moves at his maximum rate towards the exit.

Being far closer to the exit, the Psion stops and turns to watch the battle with the last of the red robed entities.

Urlando will hang by the entrance. One head is watching for where the group is seeking shelter need the tower, and the other watches the corridor through the hole in the wall.

His only immediate concern being to get Saiph and Max to some kind of safety, Podo hands the torch to Saiph to see if he can hold it while he assists both of them to the rock, ready to drop them as gently but as quickly as possible if any kind of danger is found.

Round 16

Denslow and Kurot continue to engage the remaining enemy, with Kurot delivering the final destructive blow! (7pt. dmg – Destroyed)

Silvestri and Urlando watch their comrade end the aggressive android and begin to move out of the structure.

Podo conveys Max and Saiph 100-yards out behind the sizeable rock outcropping that provides cover from the fortress.

Anton begins his regeneration cycle to heal his combat wounds.

The exhausted Saiph does best to keep watch for approaching danger from the stone outcrop.

Silvestri heads to the exit hole, waiting there for the others to reach him before exiting.

Denslow shambles towards the exit, offering assistance to Kurot if he needs it.

Podo

Setting Max and Saiph down to rest behind the boulder Podo immediately begins to look around for a direction to escape this robotic hell. A cave, ravine, oasis, structure that isn't the Tower, anything that might offer the group some shelter to recover. While surveying the area Podo tries to catch sight or sound of any possible threats in the darkness and take note of any signs of animals prints in the sand, thinking animals will of course need water and that could lead them to some safety.

I assume that depending on if there is any moonlight or starlight, that will really effect if I can see anything at all but having directional and distance sense I am going to try to leverage that information from my use of it underground to determine if above-land features may be the same as below-land. Also have animal lore if any footprints are found in the sand to try to determine what animal it might be and if it would even require water.

Urlando will wait for the others exiting the strange castle and will lead them to the boulder where Podo, Max and Saiph are hiding.

"I can't help wondering," Kurot says as they make their escape, "how much of the castle's defenses we've managed to defeat. Would another sortie would be profitable, or suicidal? We've gained nothing out of this trip so far, but lost both Bruce and Needle." Kurot puts a hand against his pack, confirming that Bruce's central processing core is still in it. "Do we cut our losses now, or recover our strength and try again?"
