Re: Quest #34 "The Search"
Darklin
After the march to the caves. He sits his pack down by the cave mouth and digs out his fishing arrow and string. Grabs his bow and looks around the group.
I am going to go down by the water and see if I can catch us some fresh dinner. Who wants to come down and keep watch while I fish ?
Max
Sets his pack down close to the entrance.
So where are we putting the fire wood? If we get a lot now then we would be able to have some for when we get back.

The Knife
"I think kobolds live anywhere they can find a free hole really", says The Knife. "They're pretty much at the bottom of the pecking order." He looks at the tracks again, then shrugs. "Could be anything really. But they still look like old tracks".
The Knife chuckles when Keg talks about burying spikes in the sand. "I like the way you think! Once we've checked out the front part of the cave, I'll lay some trip wires in the passage. They'll give us a warning if anything tries to sneak from further back."

Elnaerel will silently gather some wood without participating in the discussion. She just looks from time to time in the distance to see if something approaches.
Re: Quest #34 "The Search"
Keyon
The elf raises his hand when Darklin calls for a watchman. "Got ya, mate." He ambles toward the water, scanning the ground, the treeline, the water's edge, and the currents. If he sees anything alarming, he'll pause.

The Search For The Seaside Tower
Waterday, 24th of Goodmonth
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Sunny, Buggy
The memory of the bloody gore splattered all over the sunken cage in the final room seems to have slipped Keg's memory when he mentions being troubled by not seeing any inhabitants inside last time. The rest of the group are pretty sure the tracks were made by small two legged creatures with three toes, though none of those tracks appear fresh. The fighter and a few others keep themselves busy gathering downed limbs and other nearby wood they can burn inside the cave. Keg lays out his tarp in front of the cave mouth, finding it large enough to cover the entire opening. TK agrees to go inside to set some trip wires, but so far none of the brave adventurers agrees to enter first.
Max and Keyon move back to the edge of the water with some fishing gear, hoping for some luck. With no shade at the shore, fishing becomes unbearably hot in the blazing sun. Looking out over the empty water for a good long while, their sweat droplets adding to the salty sea, the pair finally spots some movement along the shallows, heading straight for their current position. Actions?

Keg
Is happy to see they will have some protection against the bugs and goes on about rigging the tarp as a door covering over the front of the cave using rocks and bamboo. He will also rig it so that it can be held open to one side for now as well.
Once that is done, he will venture inside with a lit torch if need be and look for a habitable spot neither too far in or too far out. Making for sure to stay away from the far back where there was the cage and the monster before. He will carry a small bamboo spear and gig for the tiny crabs as he goes as well.

Darklin
Seeing the strange fish he hold his fire.
Hey Keyon, You ever see a fish that looked like that. It looks to have some kind of armor plate on it's head. Bet my arrows won't even penetrate the plate.
Max
Starts gathering fire wood and dumping it by the entrance to the cave.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search"
The Knife collects an armful of small rocks and four small pieces of bamboo while Keg rigs up the tarp. When Keg goes inside to hunt for crabs, The Knife goes with him.
"The area by the cave mouth is where we should camp", he tells Keg. "It's the cleanest, driest and least smelly part of the place."
Placing small piles of rocks on each side of the passage way, The Knife begins to rig up two tripwires. He runs one tripwire across the passage south of the pool closest to the entrance. Then runs another across the passage north of the same pool.
The Knife looks up to see Keg seemingly intent on moving further down the tunnel. He gulps. "Er...are you sure that's wise Keg? We don't really need crabs that badly do we?...I don't even like them..."

The elf immediately backpedals a good thirty feet from shore. "The last time a fish came toward me in this accursed place, people died--and I was very nearly among them. He recalls with a distinct shudder the rays and their odd magical abilities.

Elnaerel
After gathering firewood, Elnaerel goes into the cave along with TK and Keg. "Although a part of me agrees with what The Knife says, another tells me that we should at least take a look to make sure that we don't have anything behind our backs..." She looks at the dark corridor. "Putting traps down the corridor would be a good idea in any case."
She brings out her club. "If I can be of any help making any potential crabs edible..."

Nods to The Knife and Elnaerel but in the end it is the lady that he points to while talking to TK. What she said. I don't like not knowing whats behind me. I'm not going far, just far enough to get a good look. See what we can set up in the way of traps to cover ourselves on both ends.
Luckily, we only have two sides to defend now. I agree we should camp over there on the shallow end of the cave with a fire. Meanwhile, if I am back here and can spear a few crabs to help preserve our rations and do some pest control so we have less to harass us tonight, then I will. Getting two or three birds with one stone.

Elnaerel
Looks at the holes on the floor. "What if something comes out of one these unwelcome?" She tries to assess if any of the holes through which the sea water filters in is big enough for a roughly humanoid sized creature to enter and surprise then. She will prode with her club if the naked eye isn't enough to see what she's trying to ascertain.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search"
Hope Ahlmzhad is doing ok and still with us, but the show must go on here.
The Search For The Seaside Tower
Waterday, 24th of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Sunny, Buggy
Keyon steps away from the strange looking water dweller, never seeing anything like it before. Darklin holds his fire on the first fish he has seen since he has been here, It slowly swims away, the elf trailing behind it as it departs.
Max and Elnaerel continue dragging logs and branches towards the entrance of the cave as Keg and TK move further inside to inspect the place they intend to stay the night. The cleric eventually joins them inside, looking into the holes that lead down to the water, but not seeing anything dangerous there.
Keg lights a torch and moves all the way into the cave, checking for danger but finding the place to be empty. TK starts setting up warning wires across the floor of the narrow tunnel so they might hear if something comes for them while the rest.
Enough firewood is found for a small campfire to burn for a good long while, and the tarp over the cave opening seems to help keeping the insects outside, though it does add to the already stifling humidity inside the cave by stopping any random breezes.
Feanol and Gnodric don't seem to want to enter the place, still wishing they were back in the empty village where they wouldn't have to sleep on hard, wet stone all night.
Actions?
Once everyone is ready to settle in, all I need is a watch order for the night.
While you are at it, how about a marching order for this growing group for once you set out in the morning. (if you make it till then)

If you want a better description of this cave, you can reference back to what you saw last time you were here, so I don't have to keep writing it all out.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search"
Keg looks satisfied for now. I say for now we camp in the passage here before the room with all the algae. It is too humid in there and full of rotting kelp and sea cucumbers... I hate cucumbers! Unless you think a campfire will take out some of the humidity in the air and have an idea for how to clean the space in a hurry, that is. I mean... I suppose we could douse the place with oil and set it on fire. That would maybe burn off the rot and we could sweep it into the holes in the floor... he muses.

Whatever the wiser heads decide are the appropriate precautions and preparations to make, Keyon will assist with those (gathering wood, cleaning out a good spot, setting traps, etc) until time to turn in. "I'll take the first watch. Anyone care to join me?"

"I'll join you in the first watch if that's fine. I rather sleep without interruptions. Tomorrow morning I want to be fresh enough for my prayers."
Marching order (suggestion):
Keg-Gnodric
Darklin-Elnaerel
Max-Feanol
TK-Keyon
The logic being fighting types in the first two rows, mages in the middle, thieves at the back, just because they're better than mages at fighting.
Alternatively, TK-Keyon and Darklin-Elnaerel could be swapped, so the thieves are closer to the front for reconnoitring and two fighting types at the rear.
