Maag

Maag goes to visit his companions shortly after they get back from the island with an idea.

"I reckon we 'ave worked 'ard over on der island. I fancy a decent slap up meal to celebrate, not just a bowl of veggy stew from Randall. I've got an idea..."

"I was talkin to a bloke in der Tree'ouse a while back. 'e said 'e caught a couple of big fat beaver fings down by der river early one mornin'.

" 'ow about early tomorrow mornin', some of us go down der an' see what we can bring back? Nice slap up meal for us, an' we can give der rest to der people. Better dan der fruit we brought back last time? Wotta yer fink?"

Maag will mention this idea to anybody else who look like they might be interested in coming along.

"That sounds good I am up for it. I want to do some looking around for animal sign and it would be a good time to do that."

Liam

The wirey man meets up with the newly returned adventurers and waves. Welcome back, gentlemen. I trust you all made it back safely?
What news can you bring us from your trip? to my knowledge you are the first to head out to that island, and I was curious myself of what might be there.

Andronichishche

After getting settled back in from their recent trip, Andronichishche notices Maag meeting with some of his companions and wanders over to listen to his proposal. He nods emphatically at the notion of fresh meat, regardless of the source, provided it has four legs and not intelligent enough to object to the idea. "That's a wonderful idea, Mr. Maag! I think we are all quite done with rations for a long time after the effects of that chime. Tomorrow morning, with some assistance, I would like to try using my magic to mend Sir Crestbrook's statue. I can also identify the magical pink power we found. With luck, it may help to reverse his condition. I'll need a short rest thereafter, but Rao willing, Cresty could join us in the hunt."

Maag

Maag nods approvingly. "Sounds good. But we'll 'ave to leave as fast as we can. Der animals come to der river early from wot I woz told".

To help speed their departure the next day, Maag spends some time in the afternoon collecting gear. He cuts some bamboo poles to make a travois to carry anything they catch. Then he cuts some lengths of vines to use in building the travois. His plan is to take the pieces along and build it when needed.

Finally, he cuts up some of the vines to fashion them into snares.

Andronichishche

Andronichishche smiles broadly as the erstwhile nobleman approaches and he bows respectfully to both an elder and town council member. "Mr. Liam! It is indeed good to see you again." He appraises the human during his greeting, his sharp elven eyes noting that the past few days have left marks of significant ordeal on the man's demeanor. He relaxes his posture and assumes an expression as one who finds another with whom they share the burden of emotional fatigue. Andron begins by introducing the Fellowship and sharing his discussion with the new Mayor ...

His brow involuntarily furrows as he mentions hearing of the doppleganger encounter. "I am very relieved both yourself and the Constable are unharmed," he says in a serious tone. "Circumstances on the island prevented me from assisting earlier. At least we know now the nature of the enemy, if not its end goal or lair. It would appear the only lead now is the mysterious grey pools beyond the beach. Word should be shared to avoid that area in the meantime."

Andron looks back across the serene waters of the Azure sea to the small island and points in the direction of Cat Turd Beach. "Of the small island, perhaps the only reasonably safe spot is a tiny beach populated by a colony of strange cats abandoned by their master. They're also rather on the rude side, as well ..." He trails off as if reminiscing about something then shakes his head slightly and continues.

He pulls out a worn parchment from his pack and unfolds it to display a map. "The island itself is abundant with all manner of fruit. However, there are several carnivorous trees which are extremely dangerous to the unwary." Andron indicates the entry chamber of the cave complex with the magical dais. "The rumors of a medusa were true. In a manner of speaking. This cave complex was used by a wizard who was apparently lord of these islands, a long time ago ..." Andron tells the story of Melania, the medusa, her mate, Marquees, and the tormented minotaur, Brutus, cursed to be reborn by the magical dais at dawn every time he dies.

Sighing heavily from the weight of the events that occured on the island, Andron concludes by saying, "I found a design reference for the magical dais. I hope to study and understand its function to free Brutus from his fate. I believe he's normally unlike others of his kind and quite peaceful. Unfortunately, due to ... complications ... brought about by a cursed, evil amulet, he will be almost certainly hostile to further intrusions."

Alordan looks about the beachtown and reflects on the past days on the island. He wonders about what happened with the natives and those pirates since they've been busy with minotaurs and people getting turned to stoned and killed. The gold helps, practically speaking, and certainly can help future plans for the town and the Fellowship. The Fellowship. An interesting idea and he's curious as to what that may lead to. Perhaps the most positive thing to come out of that adventure on the island, really. Still, some things need to be set right on that island in the coming days.

Meanwhile, he catches wind of Maags desire for breakfast badger or whatever and offers his help, "I'm not hungry really, for some reason, but a walk in the sun would do me good.."

Jaxsen Reiter

The young man who approached the group alongside Liam speaks up. "If any of you have had enough excitement recently, Liam and I could use a little help with the bamboo fencing that we are putting up around the farm area. Any help would be greatly appreciated." He gives it a moment and continues, "You see, we have to get the fencing set up before we can go after the Kobolds that have been attacking the farm at night."

Andronichishche

Andronichishche appraises the young man accompanying Liam. Although he wears a common garb, Andron detects a certain fluidity of movement and the calm, measured actions of a serene mind. Having met a few monks in his time at the temple of Rao, he is fairly certain the young human is also of a monastic order. In respect for the man's privacy, though, Andron doesn't question him about it. "Indeed, I believe you have the right of it. I have a not an inconsiderable amount of work I must attend to, but my companions may be of assistance."

When Jaxsen mentions the kobold attacks on the farm, Andron's eyes widen in alarm. "Please be careful with them. It is true they are cowardly ... of their own life ... in larger numbers I fear they will become bolder. They are relentless and unusually clever."

Alordan asks "how long have the kobolds been attacking? Is this a new thing? Where are the attacking from? Do you know where they go when they leave?"

Andronichishche

Early in the morning, the day after the Fellowship of the Silver Circle return from their last foray to the small island, Andronichishche gathers the members of Maag's hunting team outside the wooden stronghold. "Now then, we must try to hold the pieces of Sir Crestbrook together properly. As I said before, I am quite uncertain if my spell of mending will work, or in what degree, so it is imperative to align the pieces to complete the full statue."

When the lithic version of their friend is fully assembled, Andronichishche nods in satisfaction and solemnly gazes at each member of the Fellowship as he prepares to cast the Mending spell. He intones a brief arcane phrase and traces two geometric sigils in the air before the statue, then places an open palm on the fractured stone chest, directly upon the piece bearing Cora's petrified holy symbol ...

Jaxsen Reiter

Jaxsen listens to Alordan's questions and replies, "They have been raiding the farm for several days. They wrecked the hives and stole some chickens I believe." He points into the treeline and adds, "They come at night when they can detect no guards, and they are very good at that. And I was able to find the entrance of one of their caves. So if we can find out enough about them, we can take the fight to them. I have already found a translator willing to go along."

Liam

He smiles and also bows appreciatively to the man of the cloth. I couldn't agree more. I had heard something about this gray matter, but it was described almost like mud. I think I recall even seeing a container of it in Nehru's place... but I have an old man's memory setting in, so don't quote me on that. Still, we have to wonder if there is a connection as much as we have to wonder if one is dirt and the other is something else. The thing seemed more like clear slime when it left poor Glenasti. he shivers and looks a little squeamish at the memory. But as I said, I agree and I will spread word to keep away from there until we know better. I tell you, the idea of moving this town sounds better and better if we can put some distance between ourselves and that potential threat.

When he hears the name and the explanation for it as well the man just cannot help but laugh. Cat Turd Island... Well, that is much more honest that Big Shiny Island for sure! Ho! Ho! Oh, I needed that. Still, I hate to hear there is another place so dangerous. It seems to never end out here.
And I know how this could come off, and please forgive me... but seeing as how starved people are here, what do you think are the chances of a small hunting party going to the beach and spearing a few cats? I know the meat would be welcome.

He will then study the proffered map and look at it with a critical eye and with some love of maps in general obvious there. I say, this is well done. Very well done. And you believe this wizard and his Medusa bride to be long dead now? Only the curse they left on brutus to be what remains of their handy work, or are the trees too a part of their magic? I like hearing there is fruit, but I wouldn't want to risk any lives to get it. I wonder if any of the druids could work a magic to tame them a bit, or if there were a way to saciate them enough to harvest the food for ourselves. I apologize if I speak overly much of feeding the people here, but it seem one of the most immediate needs.

Liam will acknowledge the advise on the kobolds with a nod. He will also bring Andronichishche up to date about the Phanatons and that they are not one but at least 3 factions, what the interactions have been with Snarku's people here locally, as well as the "Red Sashes" on the beach the other day where they traded passage and good will for some daggers after recovering the wounded after the successful Pirate Raid, as well as the interaction with the natives since who are apparently in a kind of cold civil war of their own now.

Then there are the Stoneguts. The dwarves are running a copper mining operation northwest of here and have claimed the Logger's Road as well as the dock for themselves. They are piling black rocks over there... he points. And apparently there is a large stone structure they are building just behind those trees at the beginning of the road itself.

There is a group out now exploring the other side of the river between it and the cliffs to see if that will be a better place for us to move the settlement to for all those reasons plus we need better soil for farming and more ready access to water. We also hope the river itself will be a natural barrier between us and some of the dangers here, and our backs can be protected by the cliffs. The pirates were using that same spot at the mouth of the river for a dock, so that would be easy enough for us as well.

Lerrick

The cleric walks up to Maag, about to ask him if she can join the fighter-thief and Gramble in their quest for beaver (that didn't sound right), but instead overhears Jaxsen asking for volunteers to help build a fence. She moves forward and introduces herself with a slight bow. Greetings sir. I am Lerrick. I am not an accomplished fence builder, but I'd like to help out. From what you mentioned, this is something important for the town and I'd like to help. If you can wait until tomorrow I will be able to rest and meditate. Tomorrow, in addition to helping with your fence I can provide healing in case you and the rest of the crew run into trouble. One thing I've learned about this island and a particular one close by in the two months I've been here is that there is danger everywhere. I can be your medic. She waits for a reply.

Andronichishche

Andronichishche listens intently to Liam and arches an eyebrow at the mention of Nehru possessing a container of the gray matter. "Indeed? That is disconcerting news. Did Mr. Nehru behave differently in the days before his death? Is it possible he was infected by this ooze?"

He involuntarily flinches at the idea of hunting the cats, but does nod in understanding to the desperate need of the town for food. "As I said, the cats are ... unusual. Miss Tlachtga's late hound companion seemed to ignore the cats, almost like they weren't even there. I don't know, I feel these cats are not entirely what they appear to be and may prove to be quite dangerous if threatened."

Andron folds up the map and returns it to his pack. "The medusa is most certainly dead, although she was not his bride, more of a ... collectable? The wizard appeared capable of finding a medusa quite easily. He seemed to want an exceptional representation of the species, though, and searched for a long time before finding her. Marquees, the male medusa who was her mate is also dead. Of the wizard, we have no indication if he yet lives. Yes, Brutus and the magical dais are the remnants of his experiments on the island. The trees appear to be normal killer trees, for lack of a better term. They're relatively easy to spot if one knows what to look for, but they are quite stealthy and can creep up on the unwary. Miss Tlachtga here is a druid, perhaps she can offer more insights."

News of an internal conflict within the native population very obviously concerns Andron, and he closes his eyes in thought while stroking his chin with one hand as he processes this revelation. "There certainly is a confluence of events recently that threatens the safety, if not the continued existance, of the town. Mayor Daisy will need a strong retinue for protection. Conditions and sentiment within the native camps may have changed considerably towards the town in the interrim."

Andronichishche instinctively gazes in the direction of the distant black cliffs at the mention of moving the town across the river. He nods emphatically in agreement about the benefits of the location, impressed with the level of thought and planning in such a short amount of time. "Quite so! Mr. Nehru from all accounts was a competent manager, but not necessarily a capable leader of a budding community. However, I believe with the new town council and mayor, this town finally has the leadership to address the persistent problems it endures and emerge into a new and prosperous future!"

Alordan considers the revelation of the kobolds, "You tracked them to a cave, you say? That is helpful. Something for the Fellowship to attend to? I think it may be that we take care of this as soon as possible or any attempt at building up the town will be for nothing. Is there anything else you share about that?"

With the helpful information being shared around, he further inquires, "these dwarven stoneguts - has anyone triend talking with them? To any avail?"

"We certainly have experience with caves and kobolds. We can certainly try. I would like to go on the hunt first and see if I can find a new companion this afternoon."

Great RP, discussion, and info sharing here everyone!!!
Though sometimes reading this stuff is a bit like playing that grapevine game as a child.

I will start a list of characters interested in the early morning hunting mission so we can move that discussion into its own thread. As Maag will be the leader, (if I can remember that this time) he gets naming rights if he’d like.

Maag
Gramble
Tlachtga
Alordan

We already have a thread started for Jaxsen’s mission to the kobold cave, if that is something characters want to pursue further. If I missed any other suggestions, just remind me. If you want to be added, switched, or removed from any of theses lists, please advise.

At some point in town, the Fellowship gathers with their chunks of Cresty so Andronichishche can attempt his Mending magic on the fragmented human. Unsure of the possible results, the ascending Adept of Roa tries his minor magic all the same, trying not to get the others hopes up too high.

As his friends hold the many broken pieces tightly together, the Evoker calls forth his mystical powers, feeling the tingling arcane energy move from his hand, through the stone holy symbol, and into the body of the fallen Paladin. In only seconds, the budding mage finds that he was indeed able to bind a portion of the once living tissue back together. Unfortunately, it seems to have only worked on one small portion of the overall statue, the chest area. If the rest of the broken pieces can be mended in a similar fashion remains yet to be seen.

There is no response about finding a taxidermist in town for Grambles head, but Jaxsen does get an offer for help with his kobold fence from Lerrick.
