A few clarifications have been made to the
'12. Encumbrance' rules implemented yesterday.
Namely, the 'Food & Drink' encumbrance section has been relabeled as 'Provisions' and specifies that anything in the 'Food Items' list on the '08. Equipment' page will be applied to this bucket (this would
exclude the weight of a water or wine skin) and I also offered clarification as to what items qualify as 'Adventuring Gear' and 'Class-Related Items.'

I admit, it won't be a perfect system. It should simplify things, however. It won't completely make up for the weight differential, but I'll allow you to count the weight of your two wineskins as 'Adventuring Gear' and not 'Food & Drink' (perhaps the '& Drink' needs to be removed).

Yeah, until I pick up something that weighs 2 lbs.
Not really a big deal.
So, to take advantage of the 20lb set weight, I might pick up a 6-pack of torches.

Re encumbrance as I am a weed I think I am down to about 6" movt with just armour and weapons. As I only have a pack, rations and torches I have added the correct encumbrance (I think around 10-12) as if I take the full 20 I virtually wont be able to move!

I imagine you will be accumulating a nice share of items and wealth along the way. Plus, you'll be eating your rations, which are almost two pounds per day. That said, with your being so close to the divide, I imagine there will be an ongoing flirtation with the various breakpoints.
But, hey, at least the speed reductions are more gradual and you don't suddenly fall from 12" to 9" (or 9" to 6") which is a bit silly.
Alethan wrote:So, to take advantage of the 20lb set weight, I might pick up a 6-pack of torches.
That is the one perk. As long as it's reasonable, pretty much anything from the 'Equipment' list can be purchased and its weight will fall into the 'Adventuring Gear' category.

Ive made the obvious changes youve requested. Take a look at my sheet again.
some points to look for...
new thieves skill count
movemnt should be 5 with strngth 12, not 10 (was 13, race changed to 12)
i put the saves back to original ...and posted the wisdom bonus next to it for future reference
save for component usage, good to go?

Re encumbrance / movt for Kaltar. Do you have a problem with me going with how I have measured it which is the exact amount (81) which I now see has me at move 5' as opposed to being unnecessarily penalised to 4' at 85?

I'm not crazy about the idea (
I mean, how many more things to you expect to be able to outrun at 5" as opposed to 4"?) since my hope was to avoid having to continuously monitor individual items, but I will allow it... on the condition that, once you pass that 82 pound mark, your character will be moved into the reduced flat rate of 10 pounds (instead of 20).
At 83 pounds, your weight will reduce your movement to 4" and the extra two pounds carried (81+2 = 83) will bring the weight of your 'Adventuring Gear' up to eight pounds, the affect of which will be the same as carrying the full ten pounds.
Make sense?
All I ask is that you place a link to this approval on your character sheet next to your encumbrance or movement rate so we'll have linked access to this approval.
Thanks,
- Dave

Hmm I see what you're saying - I do not want to continously monitor/book keep either (do enough of that kind of stuff at work!). If I take the 10lb and 4' is the monitoring more relaxed? If so I can go with your method.
Once I have done my amendments you have requested - you just need a background - is that right?

Sooo... What you're saying is, if we have to run away, we're losing the cleric?

I'm not going to obsess over encumbrance either way, but I'll be forced into at least paying closer attention to your situation if we do with with your individual item weights. The whole reason for the flat rate 'Adventuring Gear' is so characters could pick up this and that and not worry about having to constantly update their encumbrance totals and compare it against that chart. Unless a character gets out of hand, I'll just assume the character is carrying 20 pounds. In the beginning, when you're carrying very little, there's a better chance this rule could work against you. As you accumulate more things, I suspect it will benefit the players as time goes on.
saalaria wrote:Once I have done my amendments you have requested - you just need a background - is that right?
I'm approving characters once my requested changes have been made, background or not. I like characters to have backgrounds, but I'm not going to hold up play over them.

5", 4", a character moving that slowly is assuming a bit of a risk. Obviously, knowing this ahead of time, hopefully the group will exercise the appropriate level of discretion.

Would the halfling size leather armor weight be reduced any from normal human size weight of 15?
That would free him up some considerably. Clothing too (5).
your call.

FYI... There is a Back To Top link on every single post in every forum already. It is called Top, and it can be found in the left-hand column (same column as the user information), right next to the Profile and PM buttons.
