I actually just deducted 7gp a couple days ago. Still need to remove a ration day. How much for the mule?

Hamiya will ask:
Are there more than 30 bandits residing in the abandoned temple?
Is money the main motivation for the bandits?
Will the bandits parlay with us in good faith?

Hamiya enters her trance, and communes with the all-seeing vulture. She asks it about the numbers of bandits.
The all-seeing spirit has her count, and the number grows beyond 30 before she feels a flapping caw indicating that the numbers continue, "Yes.". She asks the spirit which knows men's hearts about their motives. The image, drawn on the rock, of murder, and the words "Die, Kazak!" written there flash in Hamiya's mind's eye, then a "No." Finally, she asks if the bandits would treat with you in good faith. Hamiya twirls in the winds of fate, searching for the answer to this question. Finally, the spirit tosses her to the ground, at Hazrahi's feet, answering "No."

Interesting visions.

Aghilas has decent gp available for upkeep -- I was going to ask about the horse upkeep?

Also, do I need to "re-up" the extra for an XP bonus?

Sorry to hear about sulldawga.

Sorry, gonna try to clear up the various issues...

For the animals, upkeep represents some combination of feed and care in a stable. Let's say the upkeep cost should be 3.5 gp/week for mules, 7 gp/week for riding/draft horses, and 14 gp/week for a warhorse. They can be kept up at higher/lower prices, which would represent higher or lower quality care. They can just eat grass/forage for free, for example, but this is not guaranteed to work out.

The peasant, Etti, accompanying you (Jaskar) needs an upkeep of 3.5 gp, as well.

The excess payments I'm counting for the whole month. The size of the benefit would be smaller, as a result, but it would last longer. So Aghilas, who gave his mom 35 gp, has paid out enough that he definitely won't get a penalty this month (more than 7x4=28 gp). If he pays his personal expenses (7 gp/week) he'll come out a bit north of 14/week, which is the "level 2" upkeep cost, so he gets a 5% bonus. (Note that I've adjusted the various henchman/upkeep costs to be round numbers per day, rather than multiples of 5 per month, so 1st level upkeep cost is 28 gp/month, or 1 gp/day... I am asking for it weekly installments to try to keep the pressure on)

That's quite a few bandits. More than we could take in a straight up fight. We might want to try and ambush the bandits. Probably watch the path between the bandit hideout and the main road? Anyone else have any ideas?

Ambush smaller groups sounds like a good idea.

It's also been noted that they have guard dogs. I propose that Kareek tries to keep an eye on the temple from above, and notify us when a patrol leaves. We could then ambush that patrol. Does anyone have a different plan for surveilance?

Let’s have a look at this ruined temple and surrounding terrain. Ambushing emerging bandits may work. With their numbers, they’ll need food, perhaps? I wonder if these are simple bandits or not.

Alright... there seems to be a consensus to move toward the temple and at least scout it out...

Having commune with the spirits, the group decides to head up to the ruined temple. They head up past the Rangu Watchtower, and strike out on the road they had been shown. The route takes them over a ridge, then down into a valley, then back up and along a ridge.

As you begin to tire from the day's travel, the road greaches a narrow chasm, about 20 feet wide and 100 feet deep. A simple wooden bridge crosses the chasm. On the other side of the bridge, the road seems to end in an outcropping of stone.

You head over the bridge.

The path extends to the base of a large, 30 foot tall rock outcropping. Once by the rock, you notice stairs carved in the stone, leading to the top. It seems like a position on the rock would give an excellent view of the area, especially down the valley to your right. It seems like it would be hard to get horses up there.

It's possible to go around the rock to the left or right, though the path ends here, at the stairs. The left side, along the chasm, seems like flatter ground. To the right, the ground slopes down toward the valley. Both sides are lightly forested.

You smell a cooking fire, and hear some voices off to the left side. It sounds like a group setting up camp. They don't seem to have heard you.

Willow whispers a plan "How about we gank the group camping, head back across the bridge and set the bridge on fire? That should cut down on the bandit problem some. If there is another way for them to cross we can keep picking them off."

Khawaji Agree on the ones camping outside, not sure on burning the bridge just yet, we may need it.

Alright.

Jaskar runs up to the top of the rock as the rest of you, led by Hazrahi, head around the rock to confront the men you heard.

Jaskar finds that the rock is fairly flat on top. There's a young white birch tree up there, emerging from a cleft in the rock with a small shrine beneath it, consisting of a set of three stone figures holding up a stone bowl. A raven, which was perched on the bowl, takes flight when Jaskar runs up.

The group goes around the rock, and come upon a group of men attending to camp duties. There are 9 of them. Eight are wearing leather armor, and seem like the sort of rough men you encountered before. One of them is dressed in a loose black robe with a red sash. He has a pencil-thin mustache which droops down below his lips.

They stand up, grabbing their swords as you approach.

Actions?

Khawaji will attack the Man in a robe with his sword.

Solomon will cast burning hands in an attempt to get as many of them as possible without hitting any of us.
