Ablesforth's mallet flings through the air, beaning the foremost goblin in the face and knocking him over backwards. Pendleton's magic overcomes the other two, causing them to collapse into torpid slumber just in time to end hope of resistance -- Idriss and Neegan's sword and axe quickly end their lives.
(3 goblins dead) The group rounds the corner and finds... nothing but emptiness in the hallway. Perhaps the goblins were bluffing.
The shrieking of the mushrooms continues in the next room as Ablesforth stands in the open doorway, and the group only has a moment to regroup themselves before they are alerted to the frenzied squeaking in the second hallway, where Ablesforth first opened the door to the mask room. Nine giant rats barrel into the room through the doorway at a run, initially startled by your groups' presence in the trash room.

Pendleton stands behind someone large and well-armored, engaging in combat only if a rat makes it past the front lines.
If needed:
Rapier (THAC0 19): [1d20] = 11 [1d6] = 4

Able takes advantage of the moment of surprise to hit the floor in front of the rats, perhaps hoping to frighten them.
"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 7+2 = 9, dmg [1d8+2] = 4+2 = 6
In the first round of combat he is even less useful. He thanks Eruanna for letting him miss his own toes.
"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 1+2 = 3, dmg [1d8+2] = 2+2 = 4
someone please roll for initiative for after the surprise round. Thanks.

Gahh! With rolls like ours we won't need much more. We'll be dead!
Initiative Reroll:

Idriss
swats at one rat with his drawn sword.
Short sword melee [1d20] = 12 damage [1d6] = 5
"I wonder if something else is driving the rats forward, are they being chased by something nastier?"With
Dolph he rushes the door the rats came through and hurls the vial of holy water into the shadows
(hoping to surprise hit any figure, demoniac), thrown attack with holy water [1d20+2] = 13+2 = 15.
"Hodor, Hodor, Hodor"

Dare loves it when he has surprise advantage! He grins as he slashes his silver dagger at the first big rat he can get close to.
"I never thought I'd take up a career as a ratcatcher!"
dagger attack [1d20+2] = 11+2 = 13, dagger damage [1d4+2] = 4+2 = 6
dagger attack [1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18, dagger damage [1d4+2] = 1+2 = 3

The rats come careening, squeaking, into the room, where the party tries to end them in their confusion. The chaotic milling of the rats adds to the confusion as Neegan's axe, Ablesforth's maul, and Grimble's axe clang against the stone floor and Pendleton hides behind Dolph. Idriss leaps forward with his sword and Dare with his dagger, both deftly slicing open a giant rat to end their flight
(One dead, each). Dolph roars, his massive two-handed sword slicing across three rats in one massive swing.
(Critical hit: Cleave, 3 rats dead)
The rats squeak in rage, snapping their teeth at the party ineffectively. Ablesforth wails aloud as he hits his own foot with his maul
(crit fumble, -4). Dare, Grimble, and Dolph all strike true. Idriss hurls a flask of holy water down the dark hallway and you hear it shatter in the distance.
The last rat bares its teeth and raises its hackles, crouched against the wall and threatening you.

"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12, dmg [1d8+2] = 7+2 = 9
Initiative [1d6] = 1
Crap. I wasn't thinking and rolled initiative first. And a bad initiative, at that.
Frustrated with the pack of infernal adversaries, Able lashes out at the giant rat.
After the combat, he retrieve his smaller mallet, then laments that all the goblins are dead.
We could'a gotten some information from 'em, folks.
Technically, only two had their throats slit. Is one still alive but unconscious? If so, Able might revive it. Does anyone have a charm person spell?

Pendleton stays behind Dolph until the last of the nasty rats is dead.

Ablesforth finishes the last rat with a final, squishy thud of the hammer.
Sure, you can heal the third goblin in time.

Able ones by the third goblin and looks at the group. You all got a better idea than bringing this guy back? He's been here a while. Might be that he knows a thing or two what could help us out. Brother Idriss an' Pendleton, can either of you charm him 'to guidin' us?

"Charm?" says Pendleton, taken slightly aback. "Well, I suppose I could give him my best smile and sweet-talk and see how it goes. I have been described as dashing on occasion. But if you mean magical influence—no. A gentleman does not resort to the arcane arts to make friends."
Short version: Pendleton doesn't know that spell.

Ablesforth grunts noncommittally. I wouldn't claim t'know what a gentleman' do. I just heard some folks what practice magic can do such a thing. And at this point, I figger we can use whatever help we might get. He looks to Idriss.

Idriss
"Do you remember me? I came here several days ago and strangled your chief. I'll let big Dolph here do the same to you with your own intestines if you don't tell us everything you know. "
Charming enough? Idriss pokes at the goblin with the sharp end of his sword trying to look fierce and commanding.
