Expedition: Carchannoi/Goblin chieftainess' dungeon - 24 May

Tyrrell
Cute light wounds[1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3
"I can carry the shield if no one else declares for it."
Are there any other exits? Anyone understand these runes? What is Tog doing, Tyrrell observed her demeanour, does she look like she is familiar with these 'hellpits'.

Carchannoi gingerly touches the items to make sure they are safe for the others, finding no ill effects. Tog begins shoving gems into her pockets until she recieves a glare from Carchannoi; then she grins sheepishly (though perhaps not sincerely apologetic) and helps put them in Gaeron's sack. Tyrrell watches the goblin's gambolling suspiciously but finds its chaotic nature quite inscrutable.
Tyrrell wields and tries out the shield, Dorath pockets the scroll, and the potion and gems all go into Gaeron's sack.

"Are there any present who are, first and foremost, fighting men?" asks Carchannoi. "If not, I'd be happy to yield the shield to our Baudhist friend, seeing as I'm quite well-protected at present."

Gaston could use it if he has none.

Gaeron doesn't have a shield, and will happily make use of it, if nobody else wants it. If Tyrell is the front line and needs the extra AC though, it should go to him.

It might be advantageous to not have your healer always die first.

Either that or give Gaeron the shield and put the cleric farther back!

Tyrrell
"I can fight." Tyrrell says hefting the shield, "just can't see in the dark."
Tyrrell asks if the dwarves tongued amongst us can translate the runes at all. Any more exits or furtive shadows. Tyrrell pokes at the remains of the shadow beast, trying to gain an understanding of the nature of it. "I treated it as a foul undead spawn but it seems its' evil nature gives it a life other than that of animation. ."

The shadows non-corporeal body dissipated as it died on the floor, leaving no remains. Tyrrell did find it to differ distinctly from what he knows of spectres, ghosts, and other undead - it seems to tie to another plane and lacks the hallmarks of negative material energy. The shadows around the room, cast by the flickering torchlight, seem to all be natural at this stage. Tyrrell hefts the shield, working to balance it with his two-handed flail. putting his flail away and readying his light hammer.

Gaeron peers into the gloom, looking at the runes on the shelves.
"This was indeed a pantry. I can read this. These shelves were for plates, cups, stuff like that."
"So, where to now?"

""This room seems a dead end," says Carchannoi. "Let us go back into the entrance room, and try the door on the left side. I have been there before; my goblins and I slew some stirges there."

*bump*
I need you to be explicit when taking actions. I don't adjudicate discussion, just acts.

Carchannoi leads the party back into the entrance room and through the left door.
Re: Expedition: Carchannoi/Goblin chieftainess' dungeon - 24
The party follows Carchannoi.
You enter the next room through the door, finding yourself in the center of a long room. The far wall is about 20 feet and has a sturdy, iron-reinforced door with a lock on it just a little to the right of center, but the lock and latch are shattered and ruined, never able to secure the door again. The room extends 25 feet both to your left and to your right. On the right side, this chamber holds an odd contraption of metal and wood. It's a 20-foot-diameter circular platform that is tilted heavily to one side. Beneath it you can discern mechanisms that seem to attach to a large crank not far away. Above the platform hang metal weights on thin chains, which in turn are attached to discs and belts that are attached to other winches. It seems as though turning the winches turns and tilts the platform and sets the weights to moving. On the left side are several large chests whose contents has been tossed and now mounds on the floor - fragile and dry-rotted fabrics and dwarven-sized padded armor pieces are visible, as are carved wooden weapons and miscellaneous trash.

Re: Expedition: Carchannoi/Goblin chieftainess' dungeon - 24
"I searched the debris on my last mission," says Carchannoi, "Let us proceed further still. Tog, kindly open the door."
Re: Expedition: Carchannoi/Goblin chieftainess' dungeon - 24
Tog looks uncomfortable. "But that's how Smurk died..." she whines in protest. After some hemming and hawing, she makes her way to the door and pushes it open.
The smell within is noted first, eminating from the ruptured and fetid goblin bodies laying on the floor along with a number of smashed stirge corpses.
The room beyond the door appears to have once been the library or study of a scholar. Bookshelves stand against the walls. Several piles of books rest on a reading table in the middle of the room, and the room reeks of moldy paper. This room has the same dimensions as the room before - you enter through the center of the wall, the far wall 20 feet in front of you, the room extending 20 feet further both to your left and right (50' overall). A plain wooden door with no lock is on the wall far to your right, slightly ajar, while a solid stone door with an ornate lock is on the wall before you, just to the right if center.

Gaeron keeps an eye on the partially open door off to their right.
"Let's have no surprises. What do you figure is behind the fancy door, there?"

Tyrrell
"No surprises this time." Tyrrell thinks for moment holding the torch aloft to check for nesting stirges. "Has anyone been down here since you last explored. Would someone, something reset the lock?" Tyrrell will go to the reading desk and see if it inscribed to anyone in particular, or any name plates, plaques exist.
