Y2156.12.06-08 St Landry South of Brulantfort

MICK & DJ
St Landry was waiting for Advanced Electronics salvaged from the Boneyard and willing to pay Cr32,500 per tonne for the six tonnes you had recovered … Cr 195,000 in cash waiting on delivery.

It was a chance to use the Grav Medium Transport, but immediately presented some critical decisions. First, you had 6 tonnes to deliver and a 4 tonne cargo capacity, so that meant TWO TRIPS. Not a substantial issue since the Grav didn’t need roads and was a lot faster.

That brought up the second decision. Flying NOE, it was a 6 hour trip each way … 24 hours total time to make the delivery … but below radar the whole way. If you climbed to altitude and cruising speed, it was a 2 hour trip each way … 8 hours total time to make the delivery … but your movement would be tracked.

GRAV MEDIUM TRANSPORT [USED for Cr 81,000]
(TL 11) Cr 162,000; 13,000 kg GVWR. A sixteen-seat personal Grav transport with seats, Electronic Controls and onboard Autopilot for two (2) 100 kg Pilots, seats for fourteen (14) 100 kg Passengers and a cargo area with a 4000 kg capacity. The vehicle is designed for operation below 3000 meters altitude, has a Top Speed of 600 kph, a Flying Cruise speed of 450 kph (10,800 km range), and a Nap Of Earth (NOE) speed of 150 kph (3600 km range). The Fuel Cell consumes 19,272 Liters of Liquid Hydrogen Fuel (Cr 675 to refuel) in 24 hours.

Y2156.12.07-09 Montsoliel & Ville d’ Esploir

CHESTER & ANYONE ELSE COMING ALONG

Chester received the COMM he had been dreading. He was ordered to report to an office in Ville d’ Esploir at Y2156.12.08:1200 to give a report on his progress at locating surviving elements of the New Dawn near Brulantfort. The people that had given him all those toys wanted an update and expected him to show results. What would Chester report?

The Company had an online sale for 1 tonne MD Parts at Montsoliel for Cr 210,000 [less Cr 11,000 in official fees and expenses] and 2 tonnes of Basic Electronics Cr 5500 [less Cr 275 in official fees and expenses]. The Basic Electronics were loaded onto the regular Transport at Brulantfort and shipped to the buyer (establishing corporate legitimacy in the COLONY) while the expensive MD Parts were to be delivered in the Grav Pickup flying from The COLONY to Montsoliel along its official filed flight path like any other honest citizen.

GRAV CREW-CAB PICKUP
(TL 11) Cr 57,000; 3500 kg GVWR. A four-seat personal Grav transport with a seat, Electronic Controls and onboard Autopilot for a 100 kg Pilot, seats for three (3) 100 kg Passengers and a “pickup bed” with a 1000 kg cargo capacity. The vehicle is designed for operation below 3000 meters altitude, has a Top Speed of 600 kph, a Flying Cruise speed of 450 kph (10,800 km range), and a Nap Of Earth (NOE) speed of 150 kph (3600 km range). The Fuel Cell consumes 5203 Liters of Liquid Hydrogen Fuel (Cr 182 to refuel) in 24 hours.

Y2156.12.05-07 The Colony (Brulantfort) [Mark Jensen]

NYOTA:

The offer of heading into town sounds possibly premature. The security forces have already held her once. Then she was scanned and had trackers removed. So the security force will have her tagged as of interest.
The security forces were tagging people in town. If they have tagged everyone, not having a tag when observed by the police will be suspicious - especially if previously tagged. And having a tag that goes away and then reinstates will be even worse. Are we sneaking in or walking obviously? How seriously are the security guys policing the town? I'm already in trouble - wouldn't want the rest of you to get my bad karma.

Guy

Guy hears Mick and Nyota discussing the possibility of heading into town.

”Well, if you’re sure you’re heading into town, at least let me try and smooth the way.”

Guy isn’t sure what his papers and status will net them at this moment, but figures it’s got to be better than without him, and this seems like a crew worth being thrown into things with.

“Hol held a case containing Cr 221,100 in cash as Joe looked around nervously. That was a lot of cash.”
HOL & JOE:

Joe attempted to strike up small talk with the locals. Things progressed reasonably well until Joe casually asked about the Government. The conversation abruptly ended. In a way, Joe had his answer. The only thing that could prompt that level of open suspicion and hostility to common griping about the government was fear of informants and being dragged away and questioned for some passing comment to a stranger. No jack-booted thugs walked the street like the Colony, but the fear was the same.

Ironically, Joe didn’t have to look far for a “deal”. With trade down, the supply of PETROCHEMICALS was up and the ability to transport them to Brulantfort to meet demand (plastics for High Tech Manufacturing) was down. Joe spotted the low-hanging fruit with his ADMIN-1 and saw that Cr 10,000 per tonne PETROCHEM could be purchased for Cr 4000 per tonne cash. A quick chat and a handshake and Joe had 6 tonnes of Petrochemicals for 40% of base price. He paid the man Cr 24,000 and loaded 6 tonnes of Petrochemicals (liquid plastic) into the back of the truck [FMV = Cr 60,000].

Hol went looking for a drink at the local bar and ran into another ex-Navy … a weathered NCO whose Challenge Coin cost Hol a round of drinks. During discussion about what brought you here (delivering a load of chemicals for the factory and trying not to drive home with a big, empty truck), the NCO told you he might be able to help if you had enough cash.

Leading Hol to a warehouse, he flicked on a light and Hol saw row after row of small ROBOTS all shrink-wrapped except one. “Damn things are useless” the NCO replied “They are all DRONE units. No AI in any of them. They ordered the wrong thing and can’t return them. So now they have a hundred robots that don’t do anything.” He looked at Hol “They cost 2 grand each, but you can have all 100 for Cr 100,000 … if you are interested?”

[100 robots x 50 kg = 5 tonnes … + 6 tonnes Petrochemicals = 11 tonnes of 16 tonne cargo capacity truck]

MICK & DJ

0600, Mick and DJ lifted off from the Camp with 4 tonnes of Advanced Electronics and flew NOE cross country below the tree tops at 150 kph arriving at St Landry at 1200. The repair shop was happy to receive the parts - after the extended Lunch that DJ recalled with fond memories. Nothing had changed in St Landry. There were no guards on the street or fear in their eyes.

The official guard swaggered up to the table, looking quasi-official. ”New rules from Ville d’ Espoir” he began. ”I have to ask. Is that transport your’s?” he waited for you to respond and marked his Comp. ”Do you have any Terrorists or alien technology aboard?” People booed him and threw small pieces of fruit at the inspector. ”Its my job. I gotta ask. So don’t shoot the messenger, just lie to him.” He walked away trying to maintain his dignity as people laughed.

By 1400, you were fed, rested and the transport was quickly unloaded.
”You staying the night and coming fishing again in the morning?” a man asked as he handed DJ Cr 130,000 cash.

[You have another 2 tonnes to deliver and get paid for ... 6 hour flight each way.]

Joe understood and simply nodded, "Politics and religion, generally taboo subjects. Best to stick to trade, sports and the weather."
Ironically, Joe didn’t have to look far for a “deal”. With trade down, the supply of PETROCHEMICALS was up and the ability to transport them to Brulantfort to meet demand (plastics for High Tech Manufacturing) was down. OOC: Joe is going to make this purchase, even if it is his own money! :) He'll double check with The Company to get an okay, but if he can't or there is a concern about the purchase he'll handle it himself. This person is now a CONTACT in Decuir...hopefully.

While shaking hands over the deal, Joe says, "Pleasure doing business with you. We will probably be back in town with more goods to sell and if this plastic sells well back in Brulantfort, I'll give you a call."

Hol went looking for a drink at the local bar and ran into another ex-Navy … a weathered NCO whose Challenge Coin cost Hol a round of drinks. OOC: If Joe hears about the robots he'll be all for the purchase!

"I think we can find a use for them as is." Joe says to Hol with a smile adding with a wink, "Might even be able to retro-fit some AI into them...cobble something together from spare parts, you know. Sell on what we can't make use of, and you know...even robots with remote human control that can work in hostile environments might have a market with some customers we have up north. We'll have to see, but yeah, I think this is a good deal."

DJs plan is to head back now, get some sleep and be up bright and early for the second part of the delivery. Then he can spend a little more time relaxing in St. Landry tomorrow before heading home.

Hol will shake on the robots deal as well, not wanting to break radio silence today. He will agree to pay when they pick them up.

MICK, DJ, JOCELINE & CHESTER

Y2156.12.6:2100, Mick and DJ arrived back at the Camp with 4 tonnes of Textiles [Cr 3000/tonne FMV] for Cr 10,800. Not the greatest deal ever, but better than an empty hold and it left room for some profit. A quick unload and reload with the remaining 2 tonnes of Advanced Electronics and you were on your way back to St Landry. DJ was looking a little tired after so many hours of continuous piloting, so Joceline (Chester’s wife) volunteered to pilot for the return trip.

Y2156.12.7:0400, Mick, DJ, Joceline and Chester landed in St Landry as the twins slept in the passenger seats. Shortly after sunrise, the Cargo was unloaded and the group had another Cr 65,000 cash in your hands. There was no cargo to be purchased as the 7th was a day of rest, so the businesses were closed and everyone was preparing for the weekly community celebration. It was going to be a lot of dancing and music and eating.

HOL & JOE:

Loading up the night before and facing a 12 hour drive, Hol and Joe headed out with their load of Petrochemicals [6 tonnes], Robots [x100, 5 tonnes] and a suitcase full of cash [Cr 97,000] before dawn. It was still dark when you reached the checkpoint and the same APC flagged you down. This time, there was just a casual request to see the list of what you were transporting and a casual question about where you were heading. In place of the extended interrogation, this time you were just given vague instructions to report any strange individuals or suspicious activity you spotted on your travels to the proper authorities … then you were waved through. You never even exited the truck and they never bothered to inspect the cargo. As you drove off, you began to suspect that they were merely concerned about anyone and anything LEAVING Brulantfort.

Y2156.12.07:1600 Hol and Joe arrived back at Camp with their cash and cargo.

Y2156.12.08 The Colony (Brulantfort) [Mark Jensen]

The Company had multiple missions to be accomplished today:

Three (3) tons of cargo needed to be delivered to Montsoliel Spaceport
1 tonne MD Parts at Montsoliel for Cr 210,000 [less Cr 11,000 in official fees and expenses]
2 tonnes of Basic Electronics Cr 5500 [less Cr 275 in official fees and expenses]
… the fastest way was the 0900 shuttle from Brulantfort Port to Montsoliel [6 hour flight].
… the Company Grav Transport (Medium or Pickup) to Montsoliel was an 18 hour flight.

Chester had been summoned to Ville d’ Esploir to report on the progress of his mission to Military Intelligence. Leave at 0600 on shuttle to Ville d’ Espoir, arrive at 1100 attend meeting at 1200.

Guy had a scheduled meeting with Mark Jensen [BLDG 7] this morning and several people were interested in Mark and his possible connection to Ellie.

So WHO is going WHERE today?

Mick realizes that Omni Enterprises is going through a large quantity of Hydrogen fuel. He has a truck-mounted H generator in his personal grav-truck but he figures the company will need a lot more. He proposes to the group that the trip to the Colony should also be a shopping trip to Brulantfort to pick a Hydro-generator up. That might give them a cover to travel through the Colony as well. He recommends Joe come along to assist with his "Special" abilities, as needed as well.

With Joe and Hol's return to the camp with a hundred repair drones, he asks: "How many drones can the ship eventually control? We should set that number aside...may sell any left overs on this trip to Brulantfort and the Colony. Do any of you think this whole Blockhead clamp down is about Ellie and this alien ship brain? Have we asked ourselves the introspective question of whether we are in the right to conceal Ellie's "patient"? In my view, it's an intelligent life form. It has rights. Maybe the visit to Building 7 can shed some light as to what is going on and what our path should be.

Also, we should discuss Chester's return to report to military intelligence...the oxymoron that is."

Joe agrees to go with the group. He also thinks selling some of the drones is a good idea, although, he wants to keep more than just "how many the ship can control" to use as spares and parts.

"Yes, Dr. Ellie and her 'paitient' are certainly part of this clamp down, but I'm sure a certain young lady of our acquaintance is part of it as well." says Joe, "How they are connected, I don't know, but I think they are."

"Whatever the ship brain is, it seems like it has a mind of its own, and I think it should have some self-determination." he adds, "Even if we did turn it over to the powers that be, I'm thinking they wouldn't want us in a position to tell tales afterwards. Our reward might well be a deep dark hole in the ground."

DJ

Y2156.12.07 St Landry

DJ is happy to stay for a few hours to enjoy the celebrations, but is also happy to head back immediately if that what Joceline and Chester prefer because of the kids.

Y2156.12.08

DJ is happy to take the delivery to Montsoliel via shuttle as he is very familiar with the spaceport there.

He also thinks the H-generators are a good idea.

Nyota
I've already said I'm heading in with Mick. Anyone need medical supplies while we're there? Anything else? Food? Drink? Anything to post?
