Marullis: Are you asking me to maintain a player's map?Urson, are you comfortable mapping both IC and OOC?

Re: General Chatter
...yes.

I am topographically challenged IRL and am not processing this well and I want to make sure that one of us as players is on it. I'm asking you because IC you're the character that'll be doing it as well.I have my map but I'm not sharing. I will probably provide a hexmap that has hex type (e.g., Plains, Hills) but no more detail. I strongly encourage the PCs/players to map themselves.

He describes the base map here and here. He describes our movement here, here, here, and here.
And the GM's guidance here...

- Because this is a pointcrawl and not a hexcrawl, there's going to be a little more handwaving from me. I expect that you will be going off in random directions at first, but will soon default to known paths, discovered roads, following rivers and streams, etc
- I am tracking miles traveled but not studiously marking sub-hexes explored or anything like that
- I will allow the WWN rule of "to lightly explore a standard six-mile hex for points of interest takes a full day of scouting" but emphasis on "lightly"
- I have my map but I'm not sharing. I will probably provide a hexmap that has hex type (e.g., Plains, Hills) but no more detail. I strongly encourage the PCs/players to map themselves
- I think I am going to try to roll for random encounters every six miles traveled (with allowances for extra checks if the party remains in one place for too long)
- My encounter table gives only a 1 in 6 chance of encountering any given "monster", with the other 5 in 6 representing tracks, spoor, etc so this shouldn't translate into the party getting into fights every few hours
- I am trying to keep it simple at first but I need to dig deeper into the rules regarding % in lair and ranges of monsters
- So it may be that at the beginning, I have three different encounter tables for each hex in a three hex region but once I get my act together, I will have one regional encounter table with dynamic results depending on where the PCs are within the region and the distance that point is from each lair
I am happy to give more detail to the party if they give me more explicit directions on travel, but since you don't know of any landmarks except for the huge ones like the Falkenhorn, you're going to be mostly dependent on the sun for directions. I will, of course, be rolling for chances to get lost. Easier to understand how many hours traveled and do the math with the overland travel info on p. 49.
I will also begin to use landmarks as you pass by things multiple times, like "you set out again to the west from Fort Advance, keeping the Black Tower to the north of you". I will try to settle into reusable paths as you become more familiar with areas, so let me know if you explicitly want to explore "off the beaten track".
Also, unless instructed otherwise, when you lightly explore a hex, I am assuming you are sweeping E-W, moving a bit north or south, then sweeping W-E. If you want to explore another way, let me know.
Re: General Chatter
Previously you said you wanted to fully, but lightly, explore this entire hex. You've explored the SW and SE quadrants, with a side trip north to the black tower.
Are you going to sweep the northern part of this hex or abandon the hex sweeping plan and head straight to the swamp, or some other choice?
You're currently on the southern edge of the hex, with the black tower directly north of you and the Fort more or less directly NE of you.

Re: General Chatter
As for mapping, I encourage you to remember that this is a pointcrawl. Your map shouldn't look any more detailed than this.

Re: General Chatter
I'll make an attempt to map our progress. I promise nothing, but I'll make the attempt.

Re: General Chatter
Urson, can you get your PC's details up in the Encumbrance thread when you get a chance?
Re: General Chatter
When in combat, please list your actions taken at the bottom of your post in an OOC aside. The actions are Main, Move, On-Turn, and Instant. EDIT: Check out Marullus' post; he did a good job of labeling his actions.
Rex, a Charge takes up both a Move and Main action so if you're attacking with the spear, you can't also Charge with your hammer.

Re: General Chatter
OK, makes sense.
She will throw her spear this round, can she draw her hammer this round after throwing her spear or will it have to wait?

Re: General Chatter
Gars committed Effort for the Weeping Wounds (Shock damage is damage, as far as that Art is concerned). It lasts one round per PC level, so it's done.Marullus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 2:41 pm Did Gars expend his Effort and did Lavin expend her Whirlwind Assault? Will Gars use of Weeping Wounds continue one round (and do damage to AB2 in the coming round), or did it only last for the round it was used (and is done already)? (I assume you'll clarify that when you write the IC post after Urson's update.Just putting it on the agenda.)
Lavin wasn't able to target all enemies within 10' so she did not use Whirlwind Assault.
Re: General Chatter
Gonna give Urson one more day and then we move on without him.
Re: General Chatter
The way the Heal skill works with basic First Aid is that you roll 1d6 and add your Heal skill. Ciarra's Specialist focus doesn't come into play.
The Heal skill check only comes into play when a PC is attempting to stabilize a Mortally Wounded person or remove the Frail condition.
So Ciarra would take the first d6 result (a 6) and add 1 to it for 7 HP healed, more than enough to bring Gars back to full HP. Gars does take 1 point of System Strain.
Ciarra can take another 10 minutes to heal Kaithar but there's a chance the other axe beaks will return, or she can use Healing Touch which works instantly.

Re: General Chatter
I will use the Healing Touch. Are the rolls I made usable?
Re: General Chatter
Great, thanks.
Re: General Chatter
Just so we're all clear, Axe Beaks can be trained to be Exotic mounts.
You'd need at least Ride-0 to ride one though. I'd have to think about it but I'd probably require Ride-1 to be able to train one yourself. You can always pay someone else to train one for you.
You guess that an Axe Beak egg is probably worth the same price as a Riding Horse (200 sp) as long as the egg hatches.

Re: General Chatter
Wow. So with four eggs at 200sp a piece, that's 800sp if we return to town swiftly.
I am not going to assume Gars knows the price, but if Mikhail communicates the value, Gars will gladly vote for swinging back home.
