The edge of the shield catches the thing in the neck, decapitating its rotting head from the rest of its carcases. The teeth still snap for a minute or two, and then grow still.

Gunnar spits. "Good riddance. Hurry up with that wall." He winces a bit at the teeth wound
"I'm ready to get out of this place and get a hot meal."

Willem kicks the severed head down the hall. "Good rid'nce to ya."

"How much loner do ya think wit the wall? That thar racket yer making' is gonna bring everything in this here place right to us."

It takes another ten minutes or so of work to clear out enough space to pass the bricked-up way, but this time there are no untoward interruptions. Once, the dog pricked up its ears, staring back the way you had come, but after long moments he turned his attention away. Whatever Fang might have sensed down that direction, if anything real, was apparently passing by, and not all your banging drew it to you.

You face now a section of hallway 10 feet wide and 60 feet long, adorned with old cobwebs and the droppings of rats and mice. The walls are ancient, in poor condition, and no longer at true angles. The floor and ceiling have also been warped by time, moisture, and shifts in the earth. The place seems very old.

To the left are three brass-bound wooden doors, at the 20-foot, 40-foot, and 60-foot marks. They appear to have been well-made once, and are of thick wood, but time and rot have no doubt weakened them, and they seem to be riddled with wormholes.

On the right hand wall, near the entrance, "Antilus was here" is scratched into the bricks of the wall. The marks seem very old - certainly none of you know who Antilus might have been - and presumably predate the wall being bricked up.

Murq slips Jed's mace into his belt; "You don't mind if I continue to borrow this, d'ya?" He takes his 10' pole in hand, and faces the others; "Alright, first door then?" Meanwhile, Jed tends to Gunnar's wounded arm, laying hands to either side of the bit and asking Nergal to heal his companion.

Jed's Lay on Hands on Gunnar: 18 - 1 (Luck) + 1 (CL) - 1 (Per) = 17, 4 Healing

Gunnar shivers as the wound closes up, the coldness of the touch of dread Nergal, though healing, unnerves the dwarf. "Your god isn't like our gods, friend, though I thank him just the same I suppose. But still... I hope you're doing the right thing, down here and all." He looks around at the tombs they've uncovered beyond the bricked-up archway. "Well. Enough talk. Let's get what we came for."

Daryll steps up. "Hold up. Lemme take a look." Daryll will check all three of the doors for traps, as well as simply listen to see if he can hear anything beyond them. Find Traps: +1.

Once that's done, Gunnar will sniff outside each door to see if he can tell which one has money, or if all three do; also, if there's any gemstones nearby.

The first door appears to be locked. From it, Gunnar can smell precious metal - gold and silver.

The second and third doors are slightly ajar. There are definitely scents of precious metals coming from those directions....does Gunnar pass the second to go check the third?

... cause that's not ominous at all?

:o

Yeah, I guess. So I suppose we're about to find out what happens when Daryll fails a search for traps roll, eh?

Willem grabs Gunnar's arm as he heads towards the third door. "Hold on thar. Let's be checkin' out the second door first. Don' want nuttin' creepin' out o' thar as we be taking a peek at the other. I don' want'a be stuck in the middle if thar be creatures behind both doors."

Gunnar shrugs slightly. "All right."

Door number 2 first, then.

Peeking beyond the door, you see a 20-foot square chamber with several stone biers, upon which rest skeletal remains. There is an scent of platinum, gold, and silver in here. Frescos on the walls are too worn to discern what they once depicted.

How many biers?

"Hmm," Gunnar says. "Maybe the priest ought to say a few words? Before we go in and disturb the bones. There's quite a few coins in there."

"Or we could just light them on fire," HP says.

It seems about seven. Do you open the door wider to be sure?

"That's a lot, fellas," Daryll says. "Maybe too many." Daryll nods his head at the first and third door. "Spect they'll come outta them doors, too, once these ones rise up. Ain't there no way ya can calm em down or have em see it your way, Jed?"

Jed ponders a moment, then whispers so as not to wake the dead "I don't believe so. I could try to channel the power of Nergal to turn them away again, but ... well, there's so many of them, and I'm a poor vessel of His might."

Murq jumps in: "Jed 'n me got some spikes. We could jam 'em in the other two doors, drop some oil inside the middle doorway, 'n light it up, make the buggers walk through fire to get us, have a couple stout fellows on the other side of that fire to welcome them. Course, we'd have to coordinate all this; the spike jamming's gonna make some noise."

Jed adds "I could call on Nergal to bless those meeting the dead. I might be able to make some holy water, too."

"Hmm. Murq, I think that's a fine idea," Gunnar says. "We'll guard this door here (the second), go spike the third. Who's got some oil? No, don't spill it yet... I think we'll need someone to run in and ... wake the dead ... first. Anyone feeling particularly brave?"

Jonas pulls out two flask of oil from his backpack in preparation. 'Here, I have some oil."

"Iffen no one else be willin' do it, I'll go in and lead the blighters out." says Willem the halfling. Just don't br lightin' that oil until I'm done well clear of it."

Just noticed, did we get XP for this guy?

I'm thinking Willem & Jonas ought to be hitting level 1 right about ... now ...

Looking over Jonas, he might make a great Cleric.

Sorry....1 XP.

Otherwise, let me know when you decide what you are doing. Remember, talking about doing something is not the same as making a statement of what you are actually doing.

Right, gotcha. Waiting to see if Willem / Jonas leveled up. That may be helpful.

"So," Gunnar says, "the plan is: Murq will spike the third door. Jonas will get ready with the oil here by the second door, just on the outside here, by the wall. Willem will go in, grab some gold, and run out. Once he's out, Jonas will pour the oil on the ground, then we'll step back and light it quickly. One of you with a torch can handle that. "

"I'd be happy to do so," HP says.

Gunnar grunts. "Right. Then we stand back and wait for anything to come out. With some luck, they'll be on fire, and that oughta help us get rid of them."

"If not, we're in for a heap'a trouble," Daryll says. He quietly positions himself behind everybody, closest to the old bricked up archway, with Cisneros (who's staying WELL AWAY from the fire/oil business, and will hold action/flee if anything on fire gets even remotely close).
