Re: Helix village.
While he thinks his options over, Sven remembers to ask Valeron about Alastar.
“I was told you were the one who found Alastar roaming the moors and helped him back here. Is that true?”
“What can you tell me about it?”

The elf smiles. "Alastar. Yes it is true. I found him wandering upon the Moors, stark crazy, lost in his mind, frightened, lonely. Many a rogue might have taken less pity upon him and put him out of his misery but I brought him here to the Chapel. Vicar Othar ministered to him, watched over him during his fevers, cared for his wounds. His body restored but none of us could help him find clarity of mind.
His unstable ways make him very anti-social though I trust he has yet to harm anyone more seriously than a few bites and kicks. Heaven knows how many times he is locked in the pillory for an afternoon.
A few kind hearts bestow favours upon him. Food, clothing if he would wear them, shelter in the winters. Try bathing him. Fusses like a wildcat. You would think soap and water are the least of his fears.
I hear the rumours about him of course. A knight from Ironguard, devout and Templar vowed. Lone survivor of an expedition which plumbed the Barrow labyrinths. A crazy hermit cursed, a criminal faking madness to shield his identity. There are almost superstitions grown up around him. Folk gift him coin for favour on their explorations, others wash his feet as an act of contrition.
Certainly he delved below the Moor but what he saw or heard escapes his comprehension. Though he has a map, which apparently, many fools pay gold to see."

Re: Helix village.
Sven nods along with the elf’s words.
“I would like to take a look at that map of his, but I doubt there is any value in a madman’s scribblings. I will be sure to feed him when I can, but I ain’t washing no stinky feet.”
“Good sir, I think we are going to go with the full on restoration for this one. I doubt we will ever find its equal. I don’t have that kind of cash at the moment, though. Would it be okay to give you half the coin down now and pay the balance upon its completion in a months time?”
“Also, is there any way that one of us could help? Thereby reducing the cost somewhat? Gerdal and I are both masters of the arcane arts, perhaps we could be of some service?”

House of Valeron
One of the ladies at the loom offers a suggestion. She mentions that Vina the miller's wife is skilled in mentoring the seamstresses and weavers. Gerdal might be able to work alongside her for a few days to gain certain skills which could be applied to the Tapestry refurb.
basically as in transcribing spells, you take a two day course to learn the Mending 1st level mage spell. That would cost you 50gp in material compounds per level and 50gp fees but then you could come and cast the spell each day, or several times a day to help in the refurb which might cut costs, time or increase its intrinsic value.
The other reason to do that is because I look upon that as investing in skills and abilities and so you earn a commensurate XP bonus equal to the money spent.
Sven if you pay half they will start the initial work. Figure 100gp equates to a week's labour, so after two weeks you could return and they can assess if they carry in or delay a few days until funds are available. (So note -200gp and a need to pay -300gp in two weeks time, may be less if Gerdal learns and applied Mending spell).

Re: Helix village.
I am definitely in favor of all of that.
Let me get the gold division sorted out and I will come back to this.
I would suggest the price of the newly learned spell come out of the party fund then so Gerdal can still afford the spell she wants to transcribe.

Re: Helix village.
Turgen's Trade Goods
Gerdal enters the establishment and has a quick look around before approaching the desk.
"Mister Turgen? I am Gerdal, and I bring news from the front regarding the saurial threat. I recently travelled with my friends towards the mounds when we were ambushed and almost slaughtered by the foul lizardmen. Although they are primitive and bloodthirsty beings they seem to possess a curious, shall I say, a certain strategic cunning. Also, there seems to be some tension between factions among them. Infighting. We found a note on one of these beasts, a sort of extortion letter if you will. Perhaps you might share some light as to what it means? As I understand it, the lizardmen is a constant threat to your caravans, so I thought this might be of interest to you.

Gerdal would love to be tutored by Vina the Miller's wife to learn how to mend the tapestry.Spearmint wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 10:39 pm House of Valeron

So... out of the five days we decided to stay, Gerdal will put two each into learning Burning Hands and Mending.
-50 gp deducted for the Burning Hands, if the -100 gp can come out of the party fund. Burning Hands scroll consumed.
SM, will you get back on what the mending means for the tapestry?

Re: Helix village.
I forgot about that. Sven can fund the 100gp for the spell and start up a tab for the next trip.
Sven agrees with the offer, happy they are willing to work with us. He agrees to pay for the spell fees and hands 200 gold coins to get the job started.
“I look forward to seeing the final product. Have you ever heard of the name written on there before?”
-200gp from sheet

Sven thinks about it for a while and finally asks the ladies.
“Do you think you could show me how to mend things too? I have a little gold left.”

The House of Valeron
They agree to the Tapestry refurbishment, taking your initial deposit and setting some timeframe of the commission.
Sven, they have not heard the name but the elf does remark a great elder dragon once held sway over these lands.
Gerdal you can advance your 'clock' to cover four days of study. I am fine with the 'burning hands' study taking place in the Mazzah Tower and he can go through your practice hand movements, span shapes, ignition, tailor flame to burn exotic colours.
The 'Mending spell' will work on a specific volume of material and if cast in the refurb process helps strengthen the spider silk bonds. The casting reduces overall cost by 50gp from a reduction in labour and materials.
Sven considers needlecraft. Unfortunately at this time, Vina can only mentor one student at a time.

Re: Helix village.
What about Gerdal's question for Turgen (above)?
Re: Helix village.
Turgen's Trade Goods
"The letter or warning is written in Dwarven is it not? Perhaps you ought to take it to them."
The proprietor responds to Gerdal, handing her the parchment back.

The Old Mill
Dressed in his new silk blouson and clutching a wreath bought from the store, the elf treks the village to go and revisit the miller and his wife.
He pays his respects again concerning their loss and hands the decorative wreath as a token.
He actually wants to chat with the miller Hendon.
"Sir, I know it may not be such an appropriate time, sensitive as things are. But I understand you were a ranger of note as Basil was. Your oldest son Tam. I see him in the tavern enjoying ales, becoming a young man. He spoke to me before of his own tracking skills and archery, learned at your side.
I was thinking a little trek that he could apply himself too might help the boy become a man. Give him some pride and demonstrate the rangerly skill runs deep in the family blood. Would you consider him able to guide myself and another warrior companion for a day or two."
Vann Hector suggests that he could use the boys skill as a ranger on his expedition, promising to keep him safe from harm and give him equal share if whatever we find.

House of Valeron
"You know the timing is not so appropriate as I imagine Vina fears losing him on the Moors but the lad is old enough and certainly I trust his skills. I will discuss with his mother and if she feels comfortable and the lad agrees, then a short trip should do him good Though I would take eye for an eye should he ever come to harm."
I will add him to the expedition thread subject to a roll success.

Re: Helix village.
Sven understands the situation, only slightly disappointed he won’t get to help with the project himself.
“It is settled then! We are happy to bring you the work and I will come back to check on the progress often. By the way, I think we will be setting the take-it-home-now price at 10,000gp. We can always come down if we need to, but I want to get as much as we can for it. It might seem high, but there will be a nice bonus in it for you if we can get that kind of return. This is a chance to really showcase your wonderful talents.”

The Axe and Anvil
After thanking Turgen, Gerdal sets off to The Axe and Anvil.
She tries to make her voice heard over the commotion of sparkling steel and sizzling water, waving her hands hoping to be spotted if not heard.
"Mister Barrelgut? Sir?"

Orgoth
Orgoth takes the plumed helm to the Axe and Anvil. "I would like the name of a fallen comrade engraved on this helm. Fabian. I can pay 30gp, fair enough?"
He hands over the coins.
30gp deducted.

The Axe and Anvil Forge
Karl Barrelgut, "A lizardman helm! Where did you get this. And when did you get this?" the dwarf asks with some urgency in his voice, turning the plumed helmet over in his hands. He shows it to another dwarf smith who echoes the question.
