Gil, barbarian
The hair on the back of Gil’s neck rises as the unnatural rain falls. He raises his shield above his head to protect himself.
The skald answers Jasmine:
“Too many zombies below
In their veins poisons flow
Our blades their blood would splatter
Lest poison kill us we best scatter”
Gil can’t resist another volley of arrows before leaving.
Save vs Poison (9) [1d20] = 10
Gil short bow +2 Dex mod : [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12 damage [1d6] = 5, [1d20+2] = 7+2 = 9 damage [1d6] = 2

It's impossible to discern the eventual destinations of your shots with the hooded figure shielded by the dead, but there is an audible thunk as at least one feathered shaft sinks deeply into something.
The light rain trials off into a faint patter and then nothing. For those who look at their skin, streaks of deep crimson mar flesh and armor. The warm drops that fell upon you bear a startlingly metallic, almost coppery scent. A wave of nausea takes each of you, but your strong constitutions manage to fight it off.
Moments later, Gil is gone, loping across the rooftops once more. The mysterious figure passes out of sight down the street, borne upon the arms of his followers. A trio of undead in the street below still shamble slowly toward you, their empty eyes unfocused and jerky steps uncertain.

If the big man is leaving get, so am I.
On the run across rooftops he will fire from the gables at shuffling figures as he goes but without any success.

Gil, barbarian skald
Under intermittent moonlight, Gil makes his way across rooftops, garrets and occasional streets to reach the Vulgar Unicorn. He keeps pace with his comrades, making sure each is able to cross above the streets.
Along the way the warrior of the north ponders how to best deal with an enemy whose very blood is poisonous to the touch. An idea is forming.
Gil hopes the tavern inn is still busy with wine and wenches. The afternoon’s activities have left him with a thirst for both.

Jasmine will shrug at Gil's reluctance and follow him the Inn.

Shylock
"Wine and wenches you say? Full bodied and rich in smoothness I hope."
He perks up and hurries with lots of little strides to keep up.

Re: Into the Heart of the Storm (IC - Streets of Nuz Edrak)
A short while later, the party find themselves across the street from the inn. (The wandering monster dice have been very merciful tonight!) The building is completely dark, windows barred and door firmly shut. Heavily armed, silent guards line the rooftop bearing massive crossbows. They watch the undead file past with casual indifference.
You are within hailing distance, but the street before you is too wide to permit any sort of leap or rope trick to get you across. Eight of the shambling undead are within sight on the broad thoroughfare; who knows how many more lurk in the shadows?

Gil, the barbarian skald, turns to his comrades and whispers:
"Camp on the roof tonight
Or cross and chance a fight?
Perhaps guards on roof yonder
Know something we've yet to ponder.
Tie note on arrow and send over
For advice to avoid zombie rover?"
Gil stands up and quietly waves his arms to attract the attention of the guards. He smiles and gives a thumbs-up to appear friendly. He points at the inn, then at the street and zombies, then back at the tavern, then raises his hands and shrugs shoulders in a "I don't know" movement. He looks quite foolish.

Jasmine
Jasmine retrieves a few of her sling stones and tries to judge the distance between them and the guards.
If they didn't notice Gil she would try to get their attention that way. Tapping Gil on the shoulder she pointed out the stones
then looked directly in the direction of the guards.

After his initial successes, he repeats another pair of duds as arrows fly high and wide of the shuffling undead in the street below.
Shylock shortbow at short range: [1d20+4] = 4+4 = 8 damage [1d6] = 1 [1d20+4] = 1+4 = 5 damage [1d6] = 2

Re: Into the Heart of the Storm (IC - Streets of Nuz Edrak)
While Gil debates the respective merits of their options, Corthalis finds a comfortable spot and declares his willingness to settle in for the night. The guards opposite the party are focused on the undead below them, and Gil's attempts to catch their attention go unnoticed.
Jasmine considers using stones to attract attention to their plight. But as she pantomimes the idea to Gil, Shylock whips out a pair of arrows and sends them hissing toward the undead. Both fly wide, one high enough to glance off the wall of The Vulgar Unicorn.
Where other means of gaining attention have failed, this one definitely succeeds. A muffled oath sounds from the guard who was nearest the errant missile and he levels his crossbow and fires a shot across the street.
Firing wildly at the largest target he can see in the dim light, he plinks a bolt off the earthen wall and showers Gil with dust. Several of the undead home in on the source of the fire and lurch toward you now, reaching clumsy hands to the windows and doors in an effort to climb the wall and devour this new enemy.
Some sixth sense tingles at the back of Gil's neck, a feeling of being watched. A sibilant whisper tickles his keen ears and the pad of stealthy feet upon the rooftops behind you intrudes upon the oddly-silent melee.
You are standing on a roughly thirty foot square rooftop. The roof has a two-foot kneewall all around that could provide cover from missile fire and a house directly on either side. Also one to the rear. There are eight undead in the immediate vicinity...for now. Six are climbing the wall toward you and two are after the guards atop the Unicorn. Something or someone else approaches from behind you.
If you drop below 0 hp during the combat, let me know. I'm trusting everyone to monitor their own hp.

Corthalis Aelvynwynne stands up and walk over to others. "What's going on?" When he peers over the edge and see the climbing zombies, he will jump back across to the roof they last came from.

Takes a couple more pot shots at the undead as they try to clamber on to the roof. He targets the closest with a volley.
Shylock shortbow at short range: [1d20+4] = 11+4 = 15 damage [1d6] = 6 [1d20+4] = 8+4 = 12 damage [1d6] = 3

Gil, barbarian skald
Gil shakes his head as the man-boy’s arrows kill a stealthy approach to the situation.
“Beware all!
Hidden danger calls!
Not just zombies on wall
Look about lest we fall!”
the skald warns.
Gil peers into shadows and sky in search of hidden foes. He makes a sharp piercing whistle and Claw the war hawk emerges, flying in darkness above.
If no immediate danger presents itself, and there is time before zombies climb onto the roof, the barbarian yells across the way to the Vulgar Unicorn roof guards:
“Tell Kazak we seek entry!
What is best way good sentry?”
Then Gil follows the elf across to the nearby roof, hoping the herky-jerky zombies can’t leap.

The barbarian’s instincts, like that of a wild beast, detect a lurking presence unseen. Steel blurs as in one fluid motion he whirls about as he draws sword.

Re: Into the Heart of the Storm (IC - Streets of Nuz Edrak)
Shylock finally manages to sink one into the foremost plague-walker and the poor corpse slips from its precarious perch and flails backward into the air, dislodging one of the others as it falls. The remaining corpses attain the top of the short knee-wall and rise on shaky feet to stumble forward.
Jasmine stands frozen with uncertainty as she and her comrades are assailed from all sides. As she and Gil look behind them, they spot the wavering silhouttes of black-clad figures moving in almost-total silence across the rooftops toward the party. It's hard to say exactly how many, but at least half a dozen. Currently one small rooftop separates them from those members of the party who jumped back to avoid the confrontation with the zombies. They advance quickly and with purpose, leaping nimbly toward you.
Their faces are black and their mouths and noses masked. Their drawn weapons reflect no light. Only their movement and the whisper of light feet upon the rooftops gives them away.
From across the street, a bellow like that of an angry bull echoes in the night as Kazak kicks the door to the rooftop open and storms out, massive curved sword in-hand, and hurtles to the edge of the roof. Alec is hot on his heels.
"What the devil?!" He catches sight of his erstwhile hired swords across the street, drowned in rivulets of blood and set upon by the undead. At the sound of the big man's voice, three more shambling monstrosities come lurching from an alley and move toward the Unicorn.
