Avastan: Planetfall
Re: Avastan: Planetfall
Kit
Kit says to Corporal Able, "Corporal Able please take me to those bodies, the dead ISS security troopers. I wish to have a look at them." Kit will examine the shots in the back and will be looking to see if there was a knife wound that killed them and then an energy weapon fired at the knife wound.
Kit does not have Medic skill
After thinking about it for a moment, Kit calls to see if Jess could lend a hand.

I see the point of buying friends by seeing ‘em off with a smile and a wave, but they’re just as likely to take us for mugs. How about a marker? A favour we can call in. Or. We’re turnin’ the Bartizan into a port of sorts, maybe they promise to send their cargo through us, an’ we give ‘em a decent rate.

Frank and all SEMC Command
On the QSM's "Acquistions / To Do" list and the same item on Frank's "Policy Decisions" list is the matter of Jakob's recent "home electronics project"...
Ref: https://www.unseenservant.us/forum/view ... 90#p608890
So, what are you going to do with your new nuke?
IC responses appreciated.
(OOC: The Imperial Rules of War (which in fairness apply only over the border - but are surely a benchmark in 268) state that, while possession of nukes is frowned on, the actual employment in the field (dirtside) is the thing that guarantees Imperial attention. This also applies in 268 as the Imperium believes in a proactive stance on folk (specifically planetary Governments or Regimes) who throw nukes about (on planets). Doing so causes them to take a "dim view" which usually results in Imperial backed "Regime change". Mercs using them can of course run and hide but can minimally expect sanctions (thereby crippling their brokerage and bonds) if not getting "green lit" by the Imperium for anyone else to take out "pro bono" for a bounty).

Jess is happy to help. Done a course, ain't I? The course was in battlefield medicine, but having seen a decent range of the injuries she feels confident about identifying what caused them.gurusql wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 8:52 pm Kit

Re: Avastan: Planetfall
Kit and Jess
Able (who lead the first tactical sweep of this area) shows Kit and Jess where the bodies were found within the loading bay.
The trio are able to deduce with certainty that the guy in combat armour was in cover facing south towards the entrance doors when he was apparently shot from the west (with a fusion gun). It would appear that the two ISS mercs (in cloth with ballistic breast and back plates) took cover behind a loading bay facing towards the west when they were shot from behind (from the east). They were killed with high tech laser fire that over penetrated their armour and scorched the part of the loading bay that they were using as cover to their front.
Able states "So the first shooter must 'ave been concealed to the west. He takes 'is shot from the west on the geezer in the best armour and ducks back into cover. From the over penetration and all the stuff wiv holes in you can probably work aht 'is exact firin' position and guess it was a fusion gun. Then there's the two ISS goons - I bet they were facin' south an' coverin' the doors too. We knew they were shootin' south at the group near the Hawkwind. So, they turn west to face the threat and move into hard cover to their front. Good idea but they don't know abaht shooter two in the east and now behind 'em. They focus west and he drops the two of 'em clean an' no messin' abaht".
He adds "Three shots three kills. More numerous enemy out manoeuvred then out fought. This'll be yer quality professional infantry at work, sir and ma'am".
Kit is satisfied that the bodies were killed where they were found and by high tech energy weapons only which caused instant fatality in each case. This finding is supported by Jess' examination of the wounds which are both entirely characteristic of the weapons used being cauterised in situ by the heat energy despite the catastrophic trauma inflicted on the bodies of the deceased.
OOC: Minor edit to Able's dialogue. NB Able has presented a theory but hasn't proved it.
Kit is assisted by Able and while neither are forensically trained their military sense and tactical nouse and Kit's (indirect) knowledge of energy weapons (he'll be well aware of lasers due to his Marine EVA skills) allow them to work out what occurred in the firefight in the berm's loading bay.gurusql wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 8:52 pm Kit says to Corporal Able, "Corporal Able please take me to those bodies, the dead ISS security troopers. "Thank you for your help Jess. After the examination, I do not think that there were actually Zhodani on the scene. We have not been able to find evidence of their entrance, exit, nest or motive. The source of the thought was reasonable speculation from Freya. Given the tactics and weapons used, I would more likely credit Polly for this kill."

"I was thinking a favour, too, but your suggestions are good ones. Particularly when we also have to discuss how we are going to the pay to 30% lien on our new ships to SuSAG, which is tens of millions of credits. I rather not owe SuSAG a single credit."

Freya
Well...That depends what it's made of. Some trans-uranics are really valuable. The fusing is expensive and the timers are really useful in other equipment. But keeping it as "A Nuke" is asking for trouble.
And dismantling much of it is tricky. The chemicals can be worse than poisonous. And it can all go to hell in a couple of shakes.

"Getting rid of it is easy, just point the ship at the local star and kick the thing out of the airlock. We did it all the time for hardware that needed to be replaced," Jakob said. He shrugged. "Having a nuke is fine, outside of Imperial lines. It raises the stakes, and takes another level of security to protect. I'm not sure we have a good business case for the expense, but that's your call. Maybe ask Skeet if he wants it, it may play at his level. The thing is currently disarmed, per Liv it's a Sword Worlds Navy Darraðr class ship to ship nuclear missile warhead."

Polly herself, looking very attractive in her pale blue silk dress, snaps open her fan to reveal the Iyhlua Mon and smiles prettily "I fear you give me too much credit Lieutentant Ghoshal for I am no Clan warrior and have no expertise in high tech weapons".
Upon hearing the above (via translation) the assembled Ihatei Aslan sound off with robust cheers and salute the glory of the Iyhlua clan.gurusql wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:29 pm"Thank you for your help Jess. Useful for false flags, we ever want to frame the Swordies, or anyone associated with them. It’s a ship’s missile, too, and we just got somethin' that needs those. Doubt the Imperium cares much if some pirate gets the old instant sunshine treatment.
Tradin’ it with Skeet’s not a bad idea, though. The offer’s like a Wunderbra, ups our profile an’ catches attention. He might not take up the offer, but it’ll be noticed.

Oh, well, if you've got a target in mind, then I'm sure we can find a safe place to hide it until it's needed.

Prerna takes a breath. "I think we need to ensure that the Hawkwind is able to leave here with the safed warhead, and continue to her destination with it. I would go so far to say that we should either ensure that she is escorted by a reliable group, or we use our new ships to escort her ourselves."gurusql wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 8:45 pm Kit

Re: Avastan: Planetfall
Prerna shrugs as eloquently as her combat armor will allow. "It is their warhead in the first place, so we would be letting them keep it. They are fellow Swordies, so I'm inclined to let them keep doing anything that thwarts, annoys, or inconveniences the Imperium or SuSAG. Their ship can't launch it, so they have to be going to someone else here in Two-Sixty-Eight. Major Wagner has apparently decided that the ship and crew are worthy of defending, and I agree with that assessment. No one, except the idiots here, is stupid enough to use it as a terrorist weapon, so I'm guessing that someone is building a supply of ship-to-ship missiles, which isn't uncommon."
