Jax curls his lip for a moment and then asks for the piece of black chalk or charcoal that Maag used earlier. He carefully writes the number into the blank line at the bottom of the riddle.

Saracen once his hearing comes back and seeing the doorway completely vanished, takes a tentative step within.

While the others work on the puzzle, he is going to check out the room. It seems to be in much better condition than the rest of the structure, and is somehow has light. Magical lighting, huh. I wonder if this is the last room, or there is more somewhere. I guess we'll find out.

Inside The Stone Room
Sunday, 7th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Warm, Humid, Stagnant

Brother Gilbert lets the others handle the solution as he looks around the room carefully. He doesn't see anything that appears to be another door or hatch, and the stone walls, floor, and ceiling all look normal to him. The soft light that fills the room seems to be coming from the short pedestal.

Saracen enters the room now that the mist has vanished with the conclusion of his spell. Borrowing Maags drawing pencil, Jax writes his solution upon the line on the copper plaque. Once the monk starts writing down the long number, he notices that the plaque isn't actually attached to the plinth. It appears to simply be sitting atop of it, unsecured.

Once he completes writing the number 1113122114, the black charcoal he used turns as purple as the rest of the etching on the plaque. Then the floor of the room starts to rumble slightly as the plinth begins to grow out of it, up towards the ceiling, very slowly, higher and higher.

Avaala takes a step towards the door. "Brother Gilbert, let's go. That is a bad spot if this gets any bigger, don't you think?"

Jax takes one step back from the plinth. He doesn't turn his back on it or take his eyes off of it.

Maag

Hearing the rumbling sound, Maag takes a quick look through the doorway. Not entirely liking what he sees, he ducks back out of the doorway to avoid any flying debris from a trap.

To be clear....

The square pedestal is not actually growing in circumference. It is only rising higher up out of the floor.

gotcha. Just didn't like the idea of anyone between a moving stone object and an unmoving stone wall.

Saracen backs towards the exit, within one step necessary to leap out of the chamber, but watches with a keen interest as the pedestal rises.

The half-orc hugs the wall, thinking to himself, "Ah, der old Magical Risin' Explodin' Stone Plinth Trap...I'm not fallin' for dat old one!"

He sees the plinth start to move and heeds Avaala's advice, moving towards the entrance.

That's different. Moving...

Inside The Stone Room
Sunday, 7th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Warm, Humid, Stagnant

As the square pedestal rises out of the floor, the party moves themselves closer to the doorway.

The unattached copper plaque sitting on top starts to jiggle slightly as the whole thing rises. You can hear it clinking on the stone as it vibrates.

While the unit continues to rise, you notice that the 4 sides of the pedestal become transparently opaque, revealing more of the swirling, cloudy mist inside that reminds you of the magic portal you just entered. A soft light emanates from each of the 4 sides. Colors begin to swirl in the mist, casting a different shade upon each of the 4 sides. One side is blue, another green, a third red, and the last is a rich brown color.

In the exact center of each of the four colored sides, you see a small, coin sized gob of something that looks like a flattened ball of troll snot stuck to it. The top of the plinth is about 4 feet from the ground now, but it continues to slowly rise towards the ceiling.

Jax steps up to the plinth and removes the copper plate from the top of it, wondering if that will stop it from rising any higher.

Avaala the Grey

Avaala mutters, "Blue, green, red, brown.... air, water, fire, earth?" His thought go back to his suspicions about the large copper disks before. He looks at the plinth and tries to decide if the diameter of the discs coincides with the width of the plinth.

the other disks must have something to do with this.

Saracen sheathes his sword in its scabbard, and takes out his bow and nocks an arrow, keeping an eye on the exit corridor and the vine roof above, concerned that the noise from the rising pedestal might draw more spiders to the party.
