Boff makes sure that his bow and quiver are ready and near at hand, but otherwise continues to hide and observe, focusing more heavily on the northern approach.

Frannie stays with the folks manning the ballista.

Nah Olos talks quietly to those with him at the ballista. "That arrow could be a distraction to draw our attention away from the force approaching from the north."

In the Jotens - The Second Wave of Hobgoblins
Waterday, 12th day of Planting, 597
7th day since leaving Loftwick

Qleceec (AC 1, HP 37/63)
Androgost (AC -6, HP 38/65, Armor 25/26)
Nah Olos (AC 4, HP 20/53)
Siouxsie (AC 2 [1], HP 32/48)
Garrant (AC 8 [0/1/2], HP 31/50)
Hex (AC 0, HP 22/27, Armor 8/8)
Raffi (AC -1, HP 21/21, Armor 8/8)
Boff (AC 5, HP 32/61)
Frannie (AC 4, HP 12/26)

The drizzle returns no doubt bringing only smiles and happiness to all marching around in the rain. There is still the smell of the blood in the air.

Androgost and Garrant have knocked out the two hobgoblin prisoners. Boff remains hidden in the underbrush with his bow at the ready and he notices that perhaps the duration of the Entangle spell has come (and gone).

Androgost is trying to mime to Boff the plan when it appears that the Hobgoblins have at least come back to see what is happening. Androgost turns to face the force unwanting to give Boff's position away and Garrant is also facing that way as well since his Shield spell is still active. There is a line of 10 hobgoblins dressed in red armor carrying halberds and marching toward Androgost and Garrant. It can be seen that there is one other hobgoblin behind the line.

Nah Olos and Siouxsie have the loaded ballista point to a general northernly direction, but are not aiming at target. Qleceec is ready to move as planned to the south around the eastern edge of the hill. Hex, Raffi and Frannie are ready to do the same.

The party WINS initiative allowing at least Androgost, Garrant and Boff to act. As at present they are the only members of the party that know of the position of these hobgoblins (and perhaps the only members of the party known to the hobgoblins??? )

Qleceec

Qleceec will continue until she can see around the hill and down the road and to the north (east of the northern hill), then stop and re-asses the situation.

Nah Olos pivots the ballistga a bit more, so it points between the cliff and toward the road.

Garrant

"Hold your position, I can deal with this."

Garrant summons forth an storm of hailstones that pelt the approaching humanoids.

Ice Storm: 7" range, so should be centred just below the square with 5/6 in, 4" diameter. Should get all the hobgobs apart from 1 & 2

Ice Storm damage: [_3d10]=(4+5+8)=17

Raffi will attempt to hide in shadows if he isn’t in view or the hobgoblins aren’t aware of him.

Hex will draw his wand and wait to see if any hobgoblins appear or survive.

He will keep his eyes on the other direction in case it is a distraction.

Boff seeing the ice storm triggered decides that's a big enough distraction that he might remain unseen and lets fly at the hob in the rear, whom he assumes is a leader.

Androgst stands guard over Garrant, sword in hand and ready, as he unleashes his magical wrath upon the evil things.

Qleceec (AC 1, HP 37/63)
Androgost (AC -6, HP 38/65, Armor 25/26)
Nah Olos (AC 4, HP 20/53)
Siouxsie (AC 2 [1], HP 32/48)
Garrant (AC 8 [0/1/2], HP 31/50)
Hex (AC 0, HP 22/27, Armor 8/8)
Raffi (AC -1, HP 21/21, Armor 8/8)
Boff (AC 5, HP 22/61)
Frannie (AC 4, HP 12/26)

Garrant uses his magic and pushes more rain down from the sky, in the form of an Ice Storm which immediately kills 9 of the hobgoblins (3-0 and the one in the second row). Boff reveals himself and is able to redirect his second arrow so that it kills #2 even at his medium range. Androgst stands guard over Garrant and motions for the one remaining hobgoblin to charge him.

Qleceec is watching to the northeast. Nah Olos gets help from Siouxsie to pivots the ballista to the northwest (where Garrant just killed the hobgoblins).

Raffi is trying to find a place to hide against the wall, but not having much luck. Hex has his wand out.

This about when it becomes clear that there is more than one wave. The one remaining hobgoblin (Orange 1) retreats back into the woods

6 Archers fire on Boff from north of his position when he exposes himself. Three of the dozen arrows hit him for 1 point, 6 points (it was a critical) and 3 points - for a total of 10.

In addition, there are a full dozen halberd -wielding hobgoblins that come down the eastern side of the northern hill. For their actions they only can get as far as shown on the map.

Androgost and Garrant you are both sure that there are more hobgoblins massing on your northern flank

Nah Olos and Siouxsie you are sure there are some hobgoblins massing on the hill the north of your position.

Qleceec, Raffi and Hex you all think that there could be another wave that you cannot yet see coming.

It will be back to the parties actions.

Qleceec

She fires arrows at orange #4.

"Fall back to the others if you need to."

SC Bow [1d20]=15 to hit [1d6+7]=2+7=9 damage
SC Bow [1d20]=5 to hit [1d6+7]=6+7=13 damage

Hex will fire off a fireball into the orange group 0,1 etc ending in AB to the north east.

Raffi will draw two daggers and prepare to throw these ordinary ones if anyone comes within range.

Siouxsie

Have we got this ballistae working? Loaded with ammo and ready to fire?

"Come on. Lets test it out. Clear the woods, aim for the treeline. Then reload and mow them down before they charge us."

She works as Nah directs and helps work the implement.

Boff ducks down, trying to get out of sight and quickly sprinkles himself with a pinch of Dust of Disappearance. Once that's done, he will move toward the NorthEast. Not sure if movement will be this round or next, but his intent is to not be in the same place the arrows are going.

Frannie will assist with the care & feeding of the Ballista as directed.

Garrant

To Androgost, quietly:
"I don't have another one of those, if there are more coming we should drop back to the others."

Siouxsie

Might be tempted to call Nah, "sausage fingers" for his lack of dextrous manipulation and in her usual fashion for not wanting to be outdone, might insist on having a go herself.

Siouxsie: triggers ballistae: (Dex +1) [1d20]=2
"oops indeed."

this is why most women should stay in the kitchen..

Androgst nods in agreement as he moves east. "Excellent use of sorcery to cool those things down!"

Siouxsie (AC 2 [1], HP 32/48)
Garrant (AC 8 [0/1/2], HP 31/50)
Hex (AC 0, HP 22/27, Armor 8/8)
Raffi (AC -1, HP 21/21, Armor 8/8)
Boff (AC 5, HP 22/61)
Frannie (AC 4, HP 12/26)

Light rain continues, but everyone continues. Androgost moves a little the east and Garrant stays with him. Garrant is sure to point out the pit hiding place that the hobgoblins used.

Boff uses a pinch of Dust of Disappearance and moves to the NE - right towards the center of the archers. But at least he will not in the same place.

Nah Olos and Siouxsie and with the help of Frannie pivot the Ballista and fire a shot into the ground in front of the hobgoblins. With a crew of four you fire every other round.

Qleceec fires a couple of arrows killing a hobgoblin, but then Hex uses his wand blowing up the entire group. Raffi is ready for any that get past his master.

Two other waves of Hobgoblins move into view this round - one on each flank. The eastern group (Orange) is armed with morning stars and the far western group (red) is armed with halberds. Neither of these groups are in range to attack, but it appears that they are both more spread out than the previous wave.

The archers that were attacking Boff, start moving forward using their bows to sweep for the dwarf. Boff manages to get up against a tree as the hobgoblins pass him and 5 of them set up on the edge of the hill. The sixth is acting as the rear guard. No further actions are allowed for this group.

A group of archers that has been coming through the forest makes it way to the edge. They fire arrows down on the group below. P1 & P3 target Qleceec and hit her three out of four (and almost a fourth). This includes a critical for 4(x2)+1+2 = for a total of 11 points. P2 targets Hex but his Plate Mail saves him from harm. P4 targets Siouxsie, but misses twice. P4 falls from the hill to the ground below. P5 targets Raffi but like Hex is protected by his plate mail.

Parties actions!
