Parson Paul keeps hauling the dwarf up too, while making hissing cat noises, hoping the rats will be fooled and scurry off.
not sure which good want, but let's hope for a straight strength check rather than a force doors test.
STR 11 vs [1d20] = 7; or [1d6] = 6

With nearly everyone hauling on the rope, Norzak is quickly lifted from danger. He is in bad shape, bruised and bleeding.
OOC: I’m sorry this is short but I’m really under the weather. Hold off as there’s more.

Re: Journey to the Mines
With Norzak lifted from danger, the dwarf is nearly at the lip when suddenly several short arrows come flying out of the darkness from the north!
OOC: With Norzak not yet out of the pit, the dwarf is safe from the arrows. I am giving the rest of you a number and then rolling randomly for each arrow. Good luck! Cedric-1 Aldredus -2 Parson Paul-3 Igneous-4 Grenda-5 Fastolf-6
Arrow Targets: [1d6] = 1 [1d6] = 2 [1d6] = 2 [1d6] = 3
To Hit Cedric: [1d20] = 17 Dam [1d6-1] = 4-1 = 3
To Hit Aldredus: [1d20] = 19 Dam [1d6-1] = 6-1 = 5
To Hit Aldredus: [1d20] = 15 Dam [1d6-1] = 4-1 = 3
To Hit Parson Paul: [1d20] = 16 Dam [1d6-1] = 1-1 = 0 And that will be a 1 damage.
Cedric is hit! He notices the arrow sticking out of him is shorter and thinner than most arrows; black with dusty black feathers.
Aldredus is hit not once, but twice! The arrows snuff out his life. (Feel free to elaborate on his death if you wish)
Parson Paul likewise is hit! But he suffers but a nasty scratch.
During the surprise attack, voices carry from the darkness; an excited jabbering, barking and squeaking. Only Norzak knows the language...KOBOLDS
Norzak: You know the lingo and the voices are talking about the invaders (the party) and how the trap was successful. There are insults as well, profane and disgusting expressions you'll not deign to repeat to anyone.
Initiative: Party [1d6] = 6 Enemy [1d6] = 1 At least you win the initiative. Keep in mind the lantern has a 30' radius, which illuminates the passage north up to five feet past the opposite edge of the pit. There is a foot wide ledge running along the west and east side of the pit against the walls.
And don't forget Norzak. Who is on the rope pulling him up? Cedric alone cannot pull him out.
Actions?
Cedric Noakes: AC 6 HP 7/4
Aldredus: AC 9 HP 5/-3
Norzak: AC 4/5 HP 9/1
Parson Paul: AC 5 HP 7/6
Igneous: AC 8 HP 4/4

"OWWwww! Come on guys, keep pulling"
With tears in his eyes from the pain, shock and the unfairness of the world in general, the halfling keeps pulling on the rope and if/when the dwarf's head appears, helps him over the edge of the pit.

Norzak
The dwarf struggles to climb up, clearly seriously wounded. After hearing the Kobolds he exclaims "Son of a dead orc!!
Kobolds!" Directing it at the party, unsure about what is happening up there.
"Wass goin on? Everyone awright? I hurts like tha dickens, frikkin rats below etted me fer a bit 'o lunch!"

Re: Journey to the Mines
Let's see if Aldredus falls into the pit or drops near the edge. 50 Percent Chance Aldredus Falls Into Pit: [1d100] = 31
Struck by two dark fletched arrows, Aldredus staggers and topples forward, falling lifelessly into the pit. Norzak is pulled safely over the lip just as the sound of flesh being torn apart rise out of the depth below.
Instead of more arrows, there are more yips and barking from the darkness beyond the lamp light and then...broken common.
Is what happens you enter territory of Gut Rippers! We many...more you count! You, you tiny few! Leave and live! You stay, you die!
Fastolf has a pained look on his face. "Nothing wrong with tucking tail. I know an old watch tower nearby. At least, we can lick our wounds.'
Actions?
Cedric Noakes: AC 6 HP 7/4
Aldredus: AC 9 HP 5/-3
Norzak: AC 4/5 HP 9/1
Parson Paul: AC 5 HP 7/6
Igneous: AC 8 HP 4/4
Grenda: AC 6 HP 6/6

Sorry I missed that, but Igneous would need to see the kobolds for the spell to work.
Re: Journey to the Mines
Easily influenced by others, Cedric turns around and starts running towards the entrance.
"Retreat! Retreat!" he squeaks.

Retreat sounds good. Grenda makes a run for the cave entrance.

Norzak
Pulling himself out of the pit, the dwarf curses as he sees Aldredus' dead corpse. "Son of a bitch! Them KObold dung
eaters gorna git it when we come back 'ere. Aweright let's git outta 'ere."
He turns tail and keeping the shield between him and behind himself he follows the others out of the Mines for now.

Re: Journey to the Mines
Parson Paul pauses but a moment, hesitant to leave Aldredus as rat-food. But with everyone else fleeing and threats being issued, he also turns a fleet foot for the exit, dragging the rope that saved Norzak. Wait for me! he calls out as he could the rope, running.

Re: Journey to the Mines
With the barking laughter burning your ears, you quickly make your way back out of the entrance to the mines. Following Fastolf, the group leaves in somber silence. The near death of Norzak and the sudden demise of Aldredus are heavy in your minds as you are lead away from the secret entrance. A few hours later and Fastolf stops to show everyone a distant structure; an old weathered stone tower overlooking a bend in a small river. With the day's light shrinking fast, you make haste to the tower. Norzak, perhaps stumbling in pain and fatigue, loses his footing and sends loose shale skittering down the slope.
Sister Parthanope, it is here in this long abandoned tower that finds you preparing for a night of sleep. Perhaps you are in the middle of evening prayer, eating a meal or preparing for a night's rest. Whichever the case, you think you hear a sudden yet distant noise from outside. You are on the second floor. Stairs wind their way up along the wall to the floor above of you, half of which is gone. You are using that half as shelter from the elements)
OOC: Let us welcome Pulpatoon's stand-in charrie, Sister Parthanope!

Re: Journey to the Mines
Parson Paul, shaken from his internal monologue of what folly this seems to be, notices the extent of Norzak's wounds. Dang. You look terrible, man! He pulls out his prayer book and attempts to heal the dwarf, once again pleasantly surprised that the Gods care one whit about his party.

Re: Journey to the Mines
Leaving the tunnels, Cedric takes the rope from Parson Paul, a bit embarrassed that he had just dropped everything and ran.
When the tower comes in sight, the halfling becomes alert.
"Hey guys! I think I just saw a lady there. And she was wearing robes. Weird huh!"
