Stonjuz wrote:Yea, level up here. But remember, if you want to take NEW skills, weapons, abilities, etc....you have to find in-game trainers.
Example: Thorar could teach Two Handed Weapon. Benson could teach Shields, Branc could teach Spellcraft ( i think), etc....
You dont have to find trainers to increase the non weapon proficiencies that you already have. You get 5 points to spend, or save....
Im sure everyone will have a bunch of questions, so.....ask away.....

Perhaps any purists in the group may not WANT to level at a point this early into a game. Now would be the time to mention that, if so.

I should have said..."Begin leveling here" . Peer pressure can be my best tool for this.
You can plan your new level, making ooc notes and such) , but they will not actually go into effect until everyone completes it. Hows that for incentive?
And it just may bring the group closer. ;) Or you might end up staying at first level forever..... 8-)

I vote for levelling, just because my favorite playing range is 3rd to 9th level. 1st and 2nd lvl I always feel too brittle. After I hit 9th I start to feel like combat gets too bogged down, cause everyone’s so tough. Once I hit 3rd, I won't be too worried about it, one way or the other.

I'm good with whatever everyone else wants to do, though. ;)

Yeah, so I didn't get very far with my leveling work the other night anyway. Looking at increasing my mountaineering skill, probably. But now, with this failed saving throw, wondering if I even need to worry about it, ha ha...

But I'm good with whatever everyone wants to do. I just want to know when I need it done by, as I have deadlines looming over the next few weeks into the first part of April. I don't want to hold things up...

Tomorrow is moving day and due to a screw-up at the telco we probably won't have internet for a few days. I'll try and check in with my phone when I can but don't let me hold you up if you need to move the story along.

LEVEL TWO notes:

Thinking of just adding Armored Wizard for 15 CP, but just to wear leather.....idk.

or....

Spell Abilities (15): Once a day the elf can cast faerie fire, dancing lights, and darkness as a priest or wizard of the same level. When the character reaches 4th level, he can add, levitate, detect magic, and know alignment.

tough call here....next level I can take the other.....

thoughts?

players will get 5 CP to spend or save, per level.
additionally, 1CP is granted to each player for every NPC/villian/encounter...(dm's choice)

2cp for attending the auction and encountering the Djinn (Thorar, Nayman, Darius, Branc)
1cp for the bagpipe player battle (all current characters)
1cp for those who were engaged in the lizard fight (Thorar, Branc, Agrim, Nayman,Darius...is that right?)
1cp for interacting with the badger (Garth and Bazil)
1cp for the male minister (Bazil, and those who were burned by the man, Darius, Garth)
1cp for the smaller male fight (Bazil)
1cp for Garth, for being cursed (he's gonna need it)
1cp for Agrim's roleplaying his dismay at causing? the curse.
if skuzz was here, id give him an extra point for the bread theives encounter

so CP in total...and fell free to beg, (it might work), but, this is how i see it
Garth - 9
Nayman - 9
Thorar - 9
Branc - 9
Agrim - 8
Bazil - 9
Darius - 10

Again, you can save all or some for future use, or spend some now if training is available. PCs can teach other PCs, and teachers can earn CP in the process, but I would hope this is roleplayed out to some degree.

I think I'll spend 5 to take the gnome racial ability Short sword bonus and save the other 4.

Those both look like good options to me. The lower ac has got to come in handy right away, and the versatility to add spells is equally nice. I'd consider the little detail of when you might be able to acquire leathers. If not soon, then may not want to waste the CPs on it just yet...?

I'm looking at a mountaineering upgrade in case our climbs get hectic. Otherwise, a boost to two weapon fighting with Ag's axes, if I remember correctly...

Stonjuz, we can also use spare CPs to boost attack rolls and checks, that right?

Yea, armored wizard is a neat 2.5 feature (not sure how unique it may be, but...)
dont forget , you must still spend some points for appropriate armor proficiency too. :|
It takes awhile to fully implement, but most of my arcane casters take it.

but for leather...I don't think so, at least at this time. The racial ability does not require training I assume, correct me if I am wrong.

Although, additional spell abilities for a druid/mage does seem somewhat redundant, I am leaning towards that...I did save 7 cps from chargen...so I got enough.

Yea, the dual class with druid will get you through easier than straight caster.

I'm confused here. Are we leveling up now, mid-gane, or are folks just debating their plans for what to do when leveling up?

not leveling, yet. soon though.
but i thought that there would be PLENTY of options and questions about the process.

I need to rant alittle.
PLayers that create their own story (within the story) are going to find that they are having more fun.
If a player goes thru the game with only bare minimum effort (ie....SHORTSWORD ATTACK ROLL=X,) as their only input, i need someone to show me where the fun is in that.
There is so much that could be going on (even if it is only in the players thoughts/dreams/desires). Why not tell us a story?
...a few examples, ...the cage, the letter, the pantry, the carvings, the ants, the sharks, the stool seat, the bowl still lying near the door, the charred body lying near the cave entrance, the dog, the inventory, the path, the discs, the pillow, the jewels, i dont want to spend time describing everything, but i will as interacted with.
If i miss something in a post and seem like Im avoiding your request, i dont mean to and will continue to try and get better myself too.
i feel alittle better, hope i dont irritate anyone toooooo much.

I tend to agree with you Stonjuz. Which is why my introduction posts tended to be longer and more convoluted, as I explored the (twisted) psychology of my character and immersed myself in the setting.

On the other hand, once I'd established my characters personality and had merged with the group, I didn't want to be an attention whore and continue to make long, dense posts. And while I would be interested in exploring more roleplaying opportunities, I've found that many people enjoy old school D&D, mainly for the exploration and combat aspects and people without a lot of time to post (busy jobs, and so forth) may only be able to accommodate this type of play.

So no, I'm not irritated with you; I'd even like to pursue some of what you're suggesting. Just be prepared for the fact that not everyone may be as interested (or as able) to play in a game like that.

Also, as an aside, I tend to view my character as more of an odd side-kick and comedy relief, than a central protagonists that drives the plot or spurs the other characters to action. Given his weirdness, he's sort of difficult to place him in any other role, if you think about it. So any stories involving him, will probably involve the completely wacky things he says and does, or how he reacts to a particular situation. In any event, I'll try to work a little more of that sort of thing, into my posts, to liven it up a bit. :D

I think there's plenty for any character to be interested in, not just mine. At the same time, I'm also worried that I've posted too much with this cursed bowl thing. But really I'm just following what I think my character would do. Like Recklessfireball, I feel more like a sidekick at this point because I wasn't in on the previous adventure and my character doesn't care as much about the plates mission as he does about being in Iuz.

My character has his own reasons for wanting to come along and is kinda waiting for those original characters to take the lead on what to do next, to interact, that kind of thing. It could be that folks are just busy, but if it's a playstyle thing, might as well talk about it. I personally like all the story hooks and would explore those, but if the consensus is to tone that down and be more methodical and single minded about finishing the mission, then I'm ok to back it off.

Gotta say that I love what's already happened on this jaunt: Garth's flight and scouting and diving attack, a flying badger, the gnome's crazy leap, a dark priestess riding a huge lizard, a nice use of a grease spell, an immolation, a ritual curse, Darius's raging fists of fury... Good stuff!
