Zefarrel: Elitir, remember that thief slid that flask towards us. To me it seems likely to be poison gas or some other such exploding trap that they intended we would open or step upon.
She will then walk slowly along the bookshelves looking at titles (if she can read them), and to see if any look slightly out of place.

”Yeah, they pushed the flask, then shot us with arrows. I don’t think it can be anything pleasant. Though I am curious what it is...” says Sprig. He’ll carefully approach the thing and, without touching, examine it for “traps.” Is there a weird catch on the lid? Anything familiar about its construction?

”For what it’s worth, I agree we should try a different door. Maybe a non-void door?” he says.

Mac

Mac scans the books excitedly, hopefull to find a clue about this place. He's a bit disappointed to find only general information texts. Disappointed with a huge grin on his face. Boring books are still books. He checks again for any books out of place or unique tomes.

"Yes, yes. The other door, right. I must say, if I knew that going out on adventures would entail lovely sitting and reading rooms, I might have ventured forth years ago!" Mac addresses nobody in particular while keeping his eyes on the shelves.

Finnigan raises an incredulous eyebrow at Mac's concept of "adventure" and shakes his head.

Finally noting the one-way mirror on the wall, he mutters, "Well we certainly gave them enough time to prepare for us, if they could watch what we were doing the whole time. But then... why did it seem like we'd caught them off-guard? One playin' dead and one hiding behind a sofa hardly seems like a great plan with the possibility of an entire party of adventurers storming through the door. The prudent choice would have been to run, given the odds..."

Living Room
Arrival Evening

The confused adventurers continue to look around the room, none of them willing to pass through the black portal. Mac and Zefarrel look over the book shelves. They don't find any "special" books, or anything else out of place, but there is one tome that catches the wizards eye. Looking very much like a spell book, but with no title, one tome has a few detailed pages about how someone named Castanamir helped out during something called the "Goblin Wars". The information is vague, but it appears that the man's presence was vital in defeating the menace. No dates or other details are found within the pages.

Sprig looks over the glass flask of clear liquid on the floor. He sees no indication that it is trapped and it doesn't look all the menacing just sitting there. It seems far more likely to his thieving sense that it was simply a decoy used by the fleeing humans to cause confusion.

Finnigan and Elitir discuss the poor tactical practice of the fleeing thieves, the half-orcs arrow wound throbs a bit as she speaks.

Pumfrey and Grossphil remain quiet.

Other than the 4 remaining black portals, the smaller closet door is the only normal door that hasn't yet been checked.

Actions?

Pumfrey 14/14
Elitir 19/22
Zefarrel 20/20 4/4 first 3/3 second
Grossphil 16/16 2/2 first 1/1 second
Mac 7/7 2/2 first 1/1 second
Sprig 10/10 2/2 first
Finnigan 25/25

Mac

Mac "hmms" and "ahhs" at the new information about Castanamir. He tries to remember anything about these "Goblin Wars".

"Right then. I suggest the last remaining normal door. I'm not excited about another trip through those portals."

Finnigan glances at Elitir's wound and comments, "It looks like it's getting infected... but so quickly after it happened? Might be poison..."

He pats down his chest and belt, hand resting on his flask. "I don't have any antidote on me... don't suppose washing it out with good whiskey would help?"

Grossphil the Feeble

Grossphil also takes note of Elitir's wound and shrugs, "I haven't got any antidotes either, I used up my last few when an old sea dog came to speak to my mother and coughed a few times. I was convinced his breath was toxic and I downed three antidotes. Strangely enough I don't really remember what happened for the next 72 hours, but I survived."

Grossphil peers around the room at the various portals and the closet door before agreeing with Mac, "I have a feeling we'll have to venture into the portals soon enough, but let's check the closet first. Never know what useful things we might find in there. Also since Elitir may or may not be poisoned, perhaps Finnigan should lead temporarily? He certainly looks like he's itching for a fight since he missed out on those thieves."

Elitir

"Well, can someone try cleaning it quickly. Then we need to move, one of the black doors. I think the other one would be best but it is just based on avoiding an ambush."

Sprig, suddenly throwing caution to the wind, will deftly lift the flask, open it, dip the tip of his pinky in and taste it.

Assuming he doesn't die immediately, he says, "Well, let's go check out that closet door, then."

Zefarrel takes a look at Elitir's wound to see if any evidence of poison. I say we try the portal at the end of the hall.

Living Room
Arrival Evening

Mac searches through his memory, but doesn't think he knows anything about the goblin wars. He wants to try the last wooden door with the giggling behind it before entering another black portal.

Finnigan and Zefarrel inspect Elitir's wound again. They see no signs of poison, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. Elitir suggests going through a black portal, but not the one in the library.

Grossphil talks of a marching order change and a 72 hour bout with drug induced insomnia as he walks about the room again, eyeing the black portals with uncertainty. He also suggests opening the wooden closet door.

Zefarrel offers up her suggestion, going through the black portal down the long hallway.

Sprig defies logic, picking up the flask and taking a tiny taste. He coughs loudly and starts to turn red in the face. Just when you think he isn't breathing anymore, he lets out a loud exhale and chuckles at all of your expense, finding the liquid to be nothing more than regular water. The tricksy little gnome then suggests trying the closet door.

Pumfrey just stares at the moving silver automaton as it walks about the room. He seems unwilling to offer up a fourth choice of doors to check.

Actions?

Elitir 19/22

"Sorry, guys," laughs Sprig, "Gnome jokes. Let's go." With that he walks out the door and turns right, headed for the black door at the end of the hall. He'll pause just outside and wait for the others to catch up. In the meantime, he inspects the area around it for any carefully concealed traps.

Zefarrel follows Spring to the black portal at the end of the hall & says: I would think that myself and Elitir should go first, or maybe our dwarven friend.

Elitir

"I will go first. Zefarrel and Finn, if you could follow next I would appreciate it." With that said Elitir readies her sword and shield and walks into the darkness.

Sprig looks over the southernmost of the 4 black portals, at the end of the long hall. He doesn't find any signs of a mechanical trap. In fact, the tiny thief doesn't even see a way that someone could trap the opening.

He is joined there by Zefarrel and Elitir. The half-orc tires of the groups current indecision on which door to try next. She asks the others gathered there to follow along with her as she bravely disappears into the black portal.

Mac

"Ah. Impatience. The hallmark of youth." Mac remarks as he watches the three blindly charge forth to glory. "I have no desire to quash the exuberance of others, but I have a suggestion. It would be beneficial to determine if these portals are two-way. So I suggest someone follow our friends and then hopefully immediately return."

Mac looks around. "Those of us on this side would wait, say one minute, for your return."
