I will respond IC about going to the ashen throne after we sort out our stuff here. But for the record I'm down to trek back to either past adventure site, but I would like to head to the ashen throne, as Berry needs to see other perspectives before the inevitable return to Hollifort.

Yeah, I kind of like digging for details on the witch.

Pursuing Thag's and Berry's beliefs by clearing the basement (and finding the remaining gems to dispel the evil at the anvil) is cool, too.
I am just freaking that if we do well, we will level up, then I can't learn a spell for this level. I know the Ashen Throne is the other end of the game map, but that's the current ruling. I only get new spells as a wizard if I travel there every time we level up...

Thag:
Already has a sword on belt and quiver on shoulder. He takes Rabon's dagger and puts it in his other belt slot. He keeps the crossbow (2 hands) and buys quarrels to fill the quiver.
Loot:
- Dwarven Crossbow can be sold in the Market (Carry 2, 1D Cash) [Ob 4 resource test sells as 1D cash.]
Rabon:
- Dwarven Handaxe named "Skyfall" (Carry 1) [No intrinsic value: Value as magic item unknown]
Berry:
- an unusually large red gem, cut like a teardrop and bearing some sort of runic inscription [Plot item]
- Ring of Tarog: A large ring with a round red stone (Wear 1) [Value unknown]
- old book with scribbling about an evil dwarf god (Carry 1, 2D Cash)
- Dwarven Shield (Carry 1, no cash value) [Ob 1 resource test, can't sell it]
- scroll of "Sanctuary of the Lord of Shields" (pack 1)
Allric
- scroll of Wisdom of the Sages (pack 1) [Value unknown]
Cash...
Everyone needs at least 1D cash to make the test leaving town. Anyone who succeeds at a Resources test gets upgraded to 1D Resources (and can help others, thank goodness). We are kind of stuck in that several large value treasures must be spent in one shot.
Goes to those with least work to do in town.
1D sack of copper
1D sack of silver (from mushrooms)
3D sack of gems is best to save, or give to someone who will have at least a +1 to lifestyle for an activity.
7D hammer needs to be spent on a high-cost item acquisition (perhaps thieves tools Ob 4), or restocking all food/oil in bulk...
The book and the stained glass are not yet appraised.
So, we have:
- A sack of copper coins (Carry 2, 1D Cash)
- Embroidered pouch is full of sparkling gems (Carry 1, 3D Cash)
- an intricately crafted silver hammer, bearing an engraved image on the head (Carry 1, 7D Cash)
Sell to Herbalist:
- Eight mushrooms (to Laurel) for 1 bag silver (carry 1, 1D Cash)
Sell to Market:
- A large, gilded, gem-encrusted book (pack 2) [Value unknown]
- stained-glass detail (Hands 2 or Pack 4) [Value unknown]
- Dwarven Helm (Carry 1, no cash value) [Ob 2 resource test, can't sell it unless there is a 12 on a haggle table check. Nobody in the party can use it.]
Keep or sell:
- an invigorating potion (cures Exhaustion) (pack 1) [Value unknown]
- an invigorating potion (cures Exhaustion) (pack 1) [Value unknown]
- a calming potion (cures Anger) (pack 1) [Value unknown]
Marullus wrote:Existing Cash:

How to divvy treasure? Or do we want to wait until we get to the market and appraise the book and window?
...am I selling the right book, btw? We tried to study it so many times that Ludanto stopped giving tests, so it contains nothing more of value?

Hagglers can certainly accept help. Standard consequences for failure apply. Maybe you fail and bad things happen. Maybe you get what you want anyway and now everybody's Angry (or Exhausted). Obviously, "Shrewd Appraisal-wise" is a boon here, and would shield Rabon from conditions.
And technically Haggling roll happens "at the gates", so if you're going to Haggle, now's the time.

So, some good news: I should have gotten more information from you, but I'm still new at this, and also trying to keep things moving. Anyway, based on my assumptions, the person you (will) find, is a scholarly sort who will serve as a mentor (for a price). At least until you out-level him. So, Ob5 might have been worth it.

Okay, so question:
My beginner's luck roll (6D+3D help)/2 = 4D, Ob3
Thag's skilled roll 2D+2D help= 4D, Ob3
...we both try it?
I think I am cool with that.
We then both do a purchase with treasure. That needs an Obstacle for bolts-sans-crossbow (not a thing in the book, Ob 1?) And I can buy party supplies?
Is Rabon buying his thief tools at Ob4?
Edit to add:
Rabon beginner's luck (will 3D+2D help)/2 = 2D, Ob3
Berry's beginner's luck (will 5D+2D help)/2 = 3D, Ob3
You can also do it and fail to use beginner's luck. If you do, best not to accept help. The Ob is low and you'll probably still get something decent on the haggling roll. Per above, you'll also have a failure consequence, too...

I clearly need to read the town rules. I don't really understand all this.
Could Thag lump the thieves tools in with his purchase and just use more treasure? Though as I said, I'm happy to have a chance to spend Fate related to my wise. Is it only one Fate per test, or is it like persona where you can buy up to 3D more dice?

You want to do your own purchase. Cash is King right now because we all have resources 0.
- your first successful test gets you resources 1D.
- your second successful test gets you Resources 2D.
Once we each get 1D Resources, we can help each other and the tests get more feasible. We all hopefully will pass our lifestyle tests leaving town and the cash problem won't be as severe in the next town. If Rabon buys tools AND passes his Lifestyle, he enters the next town with 2D resources and his Wise, which is good for everyone (and his belief).
I would advise avoiding big purchases in this town... The only reason I think Rabon should go for his Ob 4 tools is because we have a 7D artwork that needs spending in one test. Using your wise for Deeper Understanding (1Fate to reroll one failed die) or Of Course (1 persona to reroll all failed dice) makes it a safe bet.
Our main priority otherwise is to ensure everyone has enough cash to have a reasonable chance to pass their lifestyle tests, bumping everyone to 1D resources and not burning our rep in Falko.
So... We need to appraise our treasures. I think Thag and I risk haggling. Then we distribute cash before deciding more actions.

I agree that we should all try to get to a positive resource level. All I really need is replacement food and maybe light supplies. And beyond that just a stay in the stables will prolly do me fine.

I hoped to find support for the idea that the consequences of Failure are built in, so there isn't an extra twist, but I couldn't find discussion of it. The advantage of Haggle is minimal at low levels and I am now unsure the risks of a failure merit it if there's extra cost. Up to Thag if he wants to try, too.

Well on the bright side, the result is not a terrible one. It might help us restock. I'm curious what you and I get hit with though.

Woohoo, I got a good result with my haggling. We can get double for one item.

Who is thinking of 14d and have that person just load up on all the kit we need to buy, so each of us only have to worry about sleeping and misc. Stuff XD

14 Good find: Take double the value of one piece of kit or salvage traded in.
To be fair to Ludanto, "selling salvage or kit" is a specific market action for
used gear. It allows that gear which costs Ob1-3 to buy is worthless, gear that costs ob4-7 is worth 1D, and gear that costs Ob8+ are worth 2D Cash.
From the book merch list, the following items are worth 1D cash:
Plate armor, mirror, lantern, crossbow, traveling spellbook, finery, and thieves tools.
Nothing in the book is worth 2D cash. However, Potions are unpriced and may be up there.
...this is the stuff that Thag's results are meant to effect. The other treasures (gems, coin, book) have a cash value already so we can spend them directly. They aren't technically "kit and salvage"
We haven't gotten a price on the gem encrusted book or the window pane yet - of he's nice he could allow us to double those.
I also don't see an option for trading in treasure items for coin. That would be a good thing to know - if we could just divide up the 7D hammer into three sacks of gold and a sack of silver then that would solve a number of our woes.

OK. The answers are hazy, but here's how we're going to do it: You can sell/fence those treasures and divide the results between you, but you'll probably get silver, and maybe get copper, and you'll have to have enough inventory to carry it around with you.

Cool - that's fair. Good for this town where we need to spend it but bad if we need to keep carrying it.

Lean-to:
We still need an interpretation on thag's role.
How much cash do we have at our disposal?
What items do we still have after the haggling? (We sold the stained glass, right?)

I don't think we've actually sold anything yet. If we follow Marullus's suggestion to Ludanto, that the haggling result would only effect recovered gear and salvage, then we should apply it to your stained glass and get double for it. Otherwise, the only other thing that would count would be the crossbow I think.

Yeah - I think we need to role play with the Herbalist then arrive at the market, then Ludanto tells us what the appraisal of our stuff is, then we discuss the divvy.
(You know, it is also worth arguing that Rabon's appraisal-wise means we should be able to get values any time and not wait for the market. Just as a future thought.)
