How do you help if you don't have a related skill?

If that is right,
Health (4D) + help (2D) - trait (1D) = 7D ÷ 2 = 3.5D rounded up = 4D
Good odds of success. As long as I am checking things prior to doing, speak up if you don't want to lend a hand.

Helping Beginners
If you’re helping a beginner, look first to your skills. If you
have the skill that the beginner would be testing, give a
die from that. If you don’t, you can help the beginner with
Nature, Will or Health, as appropriate.

Isabelle's words had cut deeper than Swelan had let on, picking at the scars still forming since his undeath. The man went through the motions of clearing the debris, handing it to Magda and Peitharian, sometime dropping items on the floor before they could take it from him.

4D (health) + 2D (Magda and Peith's health) - 1D (scarred), divide by 2, rounded up = 4D.
[1d6] = 3, [1d6] = 2, [1d6] = 3, [1d6] = 3
Oh dear. Consequence for three of us! Another check earned and one test toward laborer.

Thanks for the help with the rules Marullus.

Swelan: It takes longer than you expected, but the debris is cleared with the help of your friends. You gain the Exhausted condition.

Magda and Peitharian: Moving all this furniture kicked up some dust. Breathing the dust in dried out your throat. You gain the Hungry and Thirsty condition and lose Fresh.

With the debris cleared, all that lies between you and the dog is a closed door.

End of Turn 3
Isabelle's lantern has 1 turn remaining.

Too bad about Fresh. I thought with 4D I had that for sure. I feel particularly bad about Magda since she didn't want to save the dog anyhow.

Swelan will open the (probably trapped) door after Peith and Magda relieve hungry/thirsty.

Peitharian takes a moment to relieve his hunger and thirst before they proceed though the delay rankles considering they know not what state the injured one is in. This could all be for naught if they tarry too long.

Magda doesn't mind saving the dog. She's just pointed out that it's unlikely to attack, though she perhaps worded that badly.

Interesting consequence for her--with Hungry/Thirsty, she's going to start looking at some of her companions as a little bit tasty. Luckily I believe I have a skin of blood with me...for now.

of we can consider that OOC post as an IC action of quenching her thirst:

With his sword in one hand, Swelan stands to the hinged side of the door and attempts to open it.

Apologies for not posting yesterday.

Swelan: As you swing the door open, the dog comes into view. It is dirty and malnourished and is cowering against the far wall.

Isabelle moves forward, Morgul staying tight to her side, a low protective growl in his throat at her sudden movement. She crouches in the doorway, thinking carefully how best to relate to this scared critter that just needs a friend. She begins cooing to the dog in a comforting, sing-song voice, wooden spoon down at her side. "Hey boy... It's okay. Come here, buddy... Come here, it's okay... No kobolds, now..." she chastens Morgul. "Look friendly, Morgul. Make him know it is okay."

Isabelle: The dog carefully watches you as you approach. Please make an Ob 2 Hunter test, gaining +1D as tools from Morgul.

I apologize for giving you guys so many tests in skills you don't have. I'm really not trying to make this harder.

Awwww crap. I was hoping for Persuader. :) I am starting with 1D. Anyone want to describe Help?

not sure if Survivalist applies. If so, I'd use it.

If not, Swelan could describe how he once befriended a couple of hungry does when traveling in the wilderness (wilderness-wise).

@Marullus: Yeah, I looked at that, but I think Persuader is meant for conversations with people. Hunter is used for calming/taming animals.

@Rusty: I would allow Survivalist for help.

This might be a stretch but Peitharian has a 3 and a specialty in healer. Being a healer naturally entails being able to soothe and calm the hurt and distressed. Could he assist using that?

There are enough folk already focused on the dog so Peitharian casts an eye around the room to see if there is anything still there that might be frightening the dog. He also stays close to Isabelle to step in if she is threatened.

Okay, I'm assuming help from:
Peitharian - Healer
Swelan - Wilderness-wise (or Survivalist)
Magda - Prey-wise (or Hunter)
Morgul
I'll leave it to them to clarify in their post if they actually use the wise (protecting from consequence) or the ability, and how they flavor it.

Health 2D + 4D help = 6D / 2 = 3D +1 Thoughtful trait = 4D vs Ob 2
Here goes....

[1d6] = 2 [1d6] = 6 [1d6] = 4 [1d6] = 6

Should I wait for everyone to add their flavor before continuing, or just go for it? Also, I allow Peitharian's Healer help, not that it would change the outcome.

Magda would be using Hunter to help. Faolan, I wouldn't worry about the Beginner's Luck tests; covering all the bases is an important part of character building, and Beginner's Luck is part of what's supposed to make the beginning hard. If adventuring were easy, it wouldn't be just the occupation of desperate murderhobos with no other options.

Having encountered one or two wounded and sick animals while escorting pilgrims through the wilderness, Swelan has gleaned a small amount of insight to calming the beasts down. He keeps his eyes averted to show he is no threat and sets out a small amount of his own food onto the ground for the dog. Swelan then backs away from the door and allows Isabelle to try and calm the animal down.

The food is for "flavor," not meant to be enough to add 1D for tools or anything.

We'll be needing to refill the lantern and deal with the grind.

Isabelle: The dog cautiously approaches the food Swelan set down, sniffs at it a few times, then quickly devours it. After, he looks from Morgul to Isabelle and slowly limps to Isabelle with his tail tucked between his legs.

While this is happening, Isabelle's lantern becomes progressively dimmer until it blinks out. All four of you are submerged into darkness, and the dog huddles against Isabelle.

End turn 4
No light!

After all this adventuring, Magda and Peitharian begin to feel the effects of fatigue. You gain the Exhausted condition. And update Hungry and Thirsty! I recognize that you're probably busy with festivities though, so I won't bother you too much.

Having not eaten for a while, Isabelle and Swelan feels their stomach rumble. You both gain the Hungry and Thirsty condition and Isabelle loses the Fresh condition.
