Tyrrell, the provost of Baudh, steps boldly into the room, shifting the desiccated corpses to look for valuables. He holds his torch, the shadows shifting violently around the room as he moves. That is, until one of the shadows detaches from the wall and envelops him. He gasps involuntarily, a look of shock and horror crossing his face as the darkness becomes palpable, his skin growing pale where it grips him.

Gaeron clamps down on his fear and tries to keep his sword arm steady.
"When I heard we were to be dealing with goblins, I memorized a sleep spell! I don't think it'll do much good against...that...thing!"
He holds his sword ready, but doesn't swing at the shadow for fear of striking Tyrell even as it grips him in its cold embrace.
"Carchannoi, I hope you've got something that will work here!"

Tyrrell
struggles briefly in the shadows grasp hoping to wrest himself free and bring up his holy sun sigil to brand this demon spirit on the forehead and berate him with a holy word.
In the Name of Baudh begone [2d6] = 5 turned [2d6] = 3 he whispers...

Dorath looks on in dismay as the shadow takes hold of Tyrrell. Then his candle goes out.......he is surrounded by darkness, the only light now coming from the torch held by the ensnared Tyrrell.
"Carchannoi, you must do something. We came down her with you, trusted you regardless of the fact that you were a stranger to us. Tyrrell is a giant pain in the arse but we can't just allow him to be taken by this abomination"

Tyrrell backs off from the creature, boldly intoning words with the power of Baudh, but they seem to have no effect. The shadow fades back into the flickering torchlight on the walls, lunging forward at Tyrrell again abruptly from a different angle, but Carchannoi lunges forward, bringing down his heavy dwarven warhammer in an overhead blow. The shadow hisses in shock and surprise as the weapon doesn't pass through it, instead bearing it to the ground and crushing it with that single move. There is a shriek of pain as the otherworldly creature disburses into black, ribbon-like filaments, then is no more.
Nice hit!

Apologies, I misread that. I thought Tyrell was in the grips of the shadow, hence Gaeron didn't attack for fear of further injuring Tyrell. I didn't realize he'd been let go!
Gaeron shudders as shadow dissipates, and then wordlessly starts to help Carchannoi toss the room.

Dorath
After the attack dissolves the shadow creature, Dorath moves into the room to assist with the task of turning over the bodies. It is clear at this point that anything they find will be an assistance to their current situation.
To Tyrrell
"I'm not skilled in healing but if there is anything that I can do for you to help with your injuries, I will."

Where Tyrrell holds the torch, the small party begins making their way into the chamber and through its gristly contents. The room appears to have been a dwarven pantry or storage room. The room has paneled walls, 2' wide segments around the entire room. Each panel has a dwarven rune on it and then has two shelves, four and six feet off the ground, but the shelves are empty. The floor is covered with the dessicated victims of the shadow over a long, long time. Some so brittle they crumble to dust, there are a plentitude of the bat-bird-like stirges, giant rats, and a few goblins in the mix.
The group begins sifting the bodies, trash, and belongings of the dead. A gray smoky quartz rests temptingly on top of the pile. Resting in the corner is a sturdy metal round-shield emblazoned with a raven in flight, small rubies as its red eyes. Digging in the pile, they find a plain cracked leather scroll case with a rolled scroll inside and a fizzy blue potion. They also then find, in various pouches and fallen from the hands of the dead: a blue azurite, a dull deep blue lapis lazuli, a large striated green malachite, a white chalcedony, a murky golden yellow topaz, a green zircon, a flawed red garnet, a banded black onyx, a perfect deep blue azurite, a deep green chrysoprase, a banded black onyx, a large flawless pale blue tourmaline.
The group pauses to evaluate as Tyrrell's torch begins to gutter.

Tyrrell
"I feel gravely stranguled and drained of strength. With rest I shall overcome though my wounds my be tended to be the grace of Baudh"
Tyrrell cast a cure light wounds spell upon himself after lighting a new torch.
"It looks a fine shield and worthy of a warrior though I am not sure if I can recognize the sigil. perhaps one of you mage can take first look over these scrolls." does he need to make a roll?

Yes, roll [1d6+1] for your recovered hit points. STR damage will persist for now.

Dorath takes up the scroll case and intones his magical words. He spends some time standing to the side with the scroll while the others investigate the room.

Dorath will roll up the scroll and slide it into the scroll case on his belt for future transcription.

Carchannoi gingerly touches the metal round shield. If there are no ill effects, he touches the perfect deep blue azurite.

Gaeron will help bag up the loot.
"When we return, we should see if someone can help us discover if any of this stuff is enchanted...or cursed.

I agree. I may be able to see if something has a magical aura but determining what it is may be a bit beyond me.
