The imps swarm towards Siegfried and Aden.

Siegfried or Aden? [1d2] = 1 [1d2] = 2 [1d2] = 1 [1d2] = 1 [1d2] = 2

Two peel off the group towards you, Aden, as the other three aim their claws at Siegfried.

Could I get 2 Dex rolls for Aden, and 3 for Siegfried? 1 point of damage for each fail.

The bloated red imp hovers some distance away and lets out a ear-piercing shriek.

Siegfried or Aden? [1d2] = 2

A bolt of black energy sparks from the staff, striking Aden. You feel a sensation akin to razorblades being drawn across your skin.

Could I get a WIS save for Aden? 1 "bleed" damage if it fails, per round.

As the swarm swoops upward and out of reach, Aldus steps out of the shadows and delicately snips a trailing imp out of the air. The two halves of the imp's tiny body seem to evaporate before they hit the cold stone floor.

I'm thinking with Aldus's stealth roll, the imp was caught unawares. Otherwise, the imps don't hang around to be picked off in melee combat. You could attempt a DEX roll to bat them out of the air with melee weapons?

Aden swats wildly with the torch and sword at the imps as they swarm around him. "ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod," he wails and dives away from their attacks.

DEX 14 [1d20] = 10
DEX 14 [1d20] = 15

He takes 1 HP from the initial attack.

WIS 12 [1d20] = 12

The energy cuts into his skin. Invigorated by the pain and a little surprised at his ferocity, Aden leaps onto a pew and lashes angrily at the closest imp.

Sword Attack {STR 9} [1d20] = 11 Damage [1d8] = 8

...and strikes air then stairs wide-eyed at his bleeding skin, losing another hit point.

So 'roll on the fly' doesn't archive the rolls with the campaign record? Interesting. I rerolled my rolls so that they would be a part of the campaign record - and fared far worse.

If you kept the link to the roll, many GMs will allow them occasionally. Mistakes happen, of course. ;) I don't know if there is a way to look up past on the fly rolls though. :(

As an aside - and I know I am butting in on another game, but in the hope of actually meeting up with you all alive, didn't Aldus receive a bow from that ranger? ;)

I'm ok with it.

Aden has a bow, yes, but he's on torch duty. If it was in hand, he'd certainly have used it here.

I didn't realise that "on the fly" rolls weren't tracked either. Seems like an odd oversight.

No harm done if you still have the link (and it doesn't happen too often ;-) ).

Siegfried crouches behind his shield and tries to swipe at the flying things with his axe.

(DEX:12) [1d20] = 13
(DEX:12) [1d20] = 3
(DEX:12) [1d20] = 4
One of the creatures gets through. 1 point of damage deducted from AP.

(DEX:12) [1d20] = 13
He shaves the air close to one of the attackers, but it flies off unharmed.

Thin cuts open across your face and arms, Aden, painful marks of the imp's dark sorcery.

The cuts will continue to bleed, causing -1HP per round, until Aden receives some healing, either mundane or divine.

One down, the imps wheel and dive, resuming their assault.

Siegfried, Aden or Aldus? [1d3] = 3 [1d3] = 2 [1d3] = 1 [1d3] = 1

Aldus, one dives at you, claws poised to rake across your head, while two make for Siegfried. The fourth breaks away to target Aden.

DEX rolls again to avoid the pesky tykes.

Seeming to cackle in delight, the red imp flies closer. Taking care to remain out of the range of your weapons, the creature cries again, sending a black bolt towards...

Siegfried or Aldus? [1d2] = 1

In the swirling chaos of the imps' attack, Siegfried, you feel sharp pain, a metallic taste in your mouth, as dark magic attempts to work its way into your spirit.

Could I get a WIS save for Siegfried?

Aldus stows his shears and shield and nocks an arrow into the Bandit's Bow.

DEX (15) [1d20] = 10

Stepping neatly aside to avoid an imp, he carefully takes sight on the red imp. He murmurs to himself: "Come now, thread the needle."

Bow Attack (DEX 15): [1d20] = 10 damage: [1d6] = 1

He sucks his teeth in annoyance at the mediocre shot.

Aden ducks low as the imp makes his attack, screeching overhead.

DEX 14 [1d20] = 9

He quickly belts his found sword and drops the torch as he whips his short-bow comfortably into position. "Now that's better," he says, wipes the blood from his eyes and looses an arrow towards the red imp.

Minus another hit point. Aden is now at '8' of his max '11' hp.

Short Bow {DEX 14} [1d20] = 19 Damage [1d8] = 1

"Dammit," he groans and reaches for the torch as it flickers on the stone floor.

WIS save:(WIS:5) [1d20] = 11- a fail. Not Siegfried's strong suite!

Where the black energy strikes, Siegfried, your skin feels as though it is being pulled taut, and is tearing, hideously, under the strain. Small cuts open across your body, bleeding red streaks into your dusty, road-worn clothes.

As Aden, -1HP per round until you get a chance to heal.

Can Siegfried make two DEX rolls to avoid the diving imps? Then Siegfried can act before the imps strike again...

Bow Attack (DEX 15): [1d20] = 9 damage: [1d6] = 1

Aldus fires another glancing shot at the red imp.

(DEX:12) [1d20] = 19
(DEX:12) [1d20] = 16

Both rolls failed, how many AP is splint mail again? If possible, Siegfried wants to close with the red imp - but can the latter always stay beyond reach?

Splint mail is worth 7 AP by my reckoning.

I think Aldus has jumped the gun, initiative-wise, but I'm keeping the result.

Another of Aldus's well-placed arrows gazes the red imp. It flies upward, unsteadily, its chatter becoming ever more frenzied. The imp points its tiny staff at the suspiciously accurate tailor. A needle of dark energy bursts from the staff, striking Aldus in the chest.

Could Aldus make a WIS check?

The screeching cloud of blades and bat-like wings attacks again...

Siegfried, Aden or Aldus? [1d3] = 3 [1d3] = 2 [1d3] = 2 [1d3] = 2

Three imps flap and swipe at Aden as the fourth, perhaps following it's master's bidding, aims its clawed feet at Aldus's face.

What do Aden and Siegfried do?

Opps! Sorry about jumping in too early!
WIS (9) [1d20] = 3
DEX (15) [1d20] = 10

Aden snatches his torch then sprints and ducks between the pews. As he flees these clouds of cutlery he attempts to find some cover from which to assault the imp with arrows.

DEX 14 [1d20] = 17
DEX 14 [1d20] = 15
DEX 14 [1d20] = 6

...and takes three more points of damage [including the point per round]. Current HP: 5

"Water! There was running water somewhere in here?!" Aden looks quickly around the room as he drops his torch and takes aim at the imp:

Short Bow {DEX 14} [1d20] = 13 Damage [1d8] = 7

"How's that feel, ugly little man?"

BTW, I am taking liberties with this drop the torch and fire. If I'm pushing the boundaries of reasonable, let me know.

Siegfried, losing patience with the game, hurls his axe at the red imp. The fiend, distracted by Aldus's arrows, blunders directly into its arcing flight.

(DEX:12) [1d20] = 11 A hit! Assuming the red imp isn't 2 or more HD.

Attack Damage [1d8] = 5 The red imp takes 5 points of damage.

No liberties are being taken IMO. Multiple attacks and other epic featz would be pushing it, but a little extra cinematic flair is what OSR and/or PBP is all about.

The bloated red imp is skewered by Aden's shot, and screams in what you assume to be agony. The piercing cry is cut short by the thick, wet sound of Siegfried's axe striking the imp.

The imp bursts into a cloud of ashes and gore, as the axe, and the imp's staff, clatter to the floor.

The fiendish chatter of the long-clawed imps rises to a wail. Their flight becomes disordered as they flee, returning to the orifice-like holes of the roof carvings.

You can pick off a couple of stragglers if you wish?

Bow Attack (DEX 15): [1d20] = 16 damage: [1d6] = 3

Aldus' shots at the parting beasts bounce harmlessly off stone.

Arrow Usage Die [1d6] = 1

The tailor shakes his borrowed quiver, which rattles, nearly empty. "Gadsbudlikins! I wasted a lot of arrows on those damned things."

Aden settles down, wordlessly lays his Torch {usage die} [1d6] = 5 on a pew, inspects the remainder of his diminished Arrows {usage die} [1d10] = 2 and begins to rummage through his backpack.

He unpacks a small collection of sacks and leather rolls containing assorted common herbs and tears strips of cloth from the sleeves of his roadworn clothes. Wrapping these in the cloth and pounding it into a poultice he works at it until it is soft and moist. With a small knife from his tools he divides it in two and hands one to Siegfried.

"Here," he says, "this will stop the bleeding."

...and *cough* continued hit point loss.

Finally, he counts and measures the remaining Common Herbs {usage die} [1d10] = 1 and carefully packs them away.

Common herbs and arrows now at 1d8 and one last hit point lost as he prepared his intervention > Current HP: 4
