Clay goes to Foxy and prays over her, invoking the blessings of Beith and healing her punctured lung.
CLW [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6
Her lung seals, the rattling ceases, she begins to breath easy. After 10 minutes she wakes up, Mr. Farrow exhaling with relief.
"Glad you're still with us, Ms. O'Hare. I'm grateful for you finding my farmhands. You were right; it sounds like they kept my girls alive..." He smiles nervously, glancing back at Balex the goblin.
(You're back in the scene.
)
The farmhands reclaim their leathers, flail, and pick, but just hold them, looking at them blankly and not putting them on. They don't seem as familiar with the bows, unwilling to pick up weapons contaminated by the goblins, anyway. Broken and hollow, they finally speak only to ask if you can all go home to the farm once the sun rises. They look uncomfortable as Clay takes the third suit of leathers -- a heavy leather overcoat with reinforced lining much like Mr. Farrow's. They glance to Mr. Farrow.
"Those belong to me, I guess. But you got my men back. Giving you Theo's overcoat is the least I can do." Clay puts the coins and other weapons on the donkey who heehaws in protest at the smell of goblin.
Balex is anxious to get moving, trying to discreetly sidle away several times, each time getting a warning growl from Mors. He pleads, saying he needs to get back before the dawn. They'll need to move quick to get to the halls in time, the sun burns. He indicates that the Kings Halls are where the girls are, and that's where he intends to lead you to. It is just over four miles further and he'll need to jog, but you all should be able to make it more easily. When asked about other places, he emphasizes getting to the halls. He eventually concedes that there are many limestone pocket caves in the hills, and one is suitable about a mile and a half ahead.
"Sdubok the Vile, Sdubok the Flaming. In his magnificence he rewards those who please him with offering. He exults in fear and pain," he rattles of from rote like a litany.
"Dmukaz teaches us. Is his priest."
He asks about your God and how it will help him in the face of Sdubok. How will you give him power?
After you concede to begin moving to a destination that will result in him getting out of the sun,
(let me know where you're going)he is willing to talk again while you move. His words are filled with invectives and he takes glee as he explains any aspect of ill intent. He has visible relief at keeping his armor, of which he is very proud. He balks at losing his weapons, but relents when you pressure him.
Sdubok's gloaming is the first new moon after the spring equinox, he explains. You think back to the diminishing sliver of the moon since you've left town and realize that the new moon peaks (or reaches nadir) today. Moon rise has been just after dawn and setting before the sun. Doing the moon calculations taught to you by the Priests of Beith, you surmise that the moon should be in the sky all day, but only about one hour tonight after the sun has set.
You show him the small vial of red liquid and he grins broadly, nodding his head enthusiastically. He launches into a combination of tales and pantomimes that is so horrific and vulgar that it could make a prostitute vomit from the obscenity. The gist of the tale goes thus: He indicates one of the dead goblins, who is apparently a female of their kind. She was known to be frigid and refused to copulate, and was vicious enough to maim unwanted suitors. He pinned her down and forced her try the potion to see what it would do. After drinking it she became both amorous and insatiable, mating ferociously with him (as he is the strongest and best, of course) until all his muscles hurt and then five times more. He is aroused at the memory and approaches the female's corpse to repeat his conquest until stopped by your revulsion.
The King is jealous of his magic and Balex's stories tell you much of intimidation and fear, but little that might be useful in identifying truth from fiction regarding magical effects. The Red Robes are of a tall race and live further west along the foot of the mountains. They speak knowledge of Sdubok, but are not priests like Dmukaz. They have powerful magics and inspire great fear, so must be respected. They work unholy rites in ancient ruins where no goblin enters.
