The last goblin exults for a moment at his success against Foxy, but only for a moment. The plants are eating his boss, an owl swooped in at his head, and a dog is charging at him, snarling. He tucks his bow and runs, heading headlong into the night. Mors gives chase, gleefully, but his teeth only snap at the fleet goblin's heels. Mr. Farrow reaches Foxy and stabilizes her with bandages from her pack - she is unconscious, but no longer sliding to death. Mr. Farrow remains at her side.

Clay makes his way through the vines, dispatching a second, then a third of the little goblins. Their leader remains, as do the prisoners, three bound securely in the vines. 5 rounds left in the spell.

(My last post was supposed to say "half-movement" and not "half-assed." Thanks Autocorrect.)

Clay makes his way to the nearest captive, moving half-assed (;) ) within the thick, thick grasses. He unbinds his feet and hands and transfers the bindings to the goblin boss, making sure that it will remain restrained when the plants return to their inanimate state. He relieves the goblin of all weaponry - swords, bows, knives, etc, placing the weapons with the nearby farmhands for safe-keeping. The goblin curses at the young priest through his many bindings. Clay does not reply right away, but rather uses some rags to bind the goblins mouth, being careful to keep his hands from the sharp teeth.

Once he is sure the goblin poses no further threats and is unable to escape, Clay hoots to Maurice again.
Maurice, it is too dark for me to see well. Would you please let me know what is going on? Can you still hear the wolves? Are they any nearer sounding? Are there any other goblins lurking in the nearby area? I would hate to have an arrow come at us. Thank you ever-so-much.

Clay turns back to the Goblin boss and speaks, It saddens me to see it come to this, but this end is of your own making, little friend. Those girls are innocent and will be returned home. And you will help us. In exchange, I will see what I can do to help you rise in the ranks of your people. Do you understand? You mentioned a name, "Moo-koz" or "Mucus," correct? Is he the chief of your tribe? Would you like to replace him? As the weeds slacken their grip, Clay takes a small step away, gripping his staff securely in case he needs to knock the goblin out.

Mr. Farrow kneels next to Foxy, binding and applying pressure after carefully removing the goblin's rusty-tipped arrow. It appears to be of human make, of good southern wood, but poorly cared for recently. He remains with her to ensure no further harm befalls her as Clay busies himself with the others. He watches attentively as his farmhands are unbound, his face knitted with concern.

Clay speaks to the owl, who wings off into the night, flying southwest. The goblin boss is suitably trussed with the heavy, rough hemp rope taken off of the human captives. The captives are unbound, the bramble vines and tall grasses of the area angrily working against you as you attempt to do so, not wishing to release their prey. After a few minutes the plants calm and subside, making the task easier.

A pile is made of weapons, entailing what is taken off the goblins and also what the goblins took off the farmhand prisoners.
From six small goblin bodies: (all in poor condition)
3 goblin-made spears
3 human-made shortbows
27 human-made arrows with three quivers
6 human-made daggers
23 ep

Taken from the farmhands and carried by the goblins:
three torn suits of leather armor (M)
one long sword
one shield
one heavy flail
one heavy pick

Still on the leader goblin:
two short swords
one spear
one set of grimy dwarf-made chainmail (S)
The prisoners do not rise to the occasion. The larger man, identified as "Gus" by Mr. Farrow, curls up into a ball and weeps abjectly. The smaller, older man, identified as "George," puts a comforting hand on him and is silent, but doesn't seem to be in much better shape, his eyes haunted. Both bear hundreds of tiny wounds and signs of torture, their spirits broken and their courage utterly gone. Neither of them appears to be at full health, but neither are their lives in jeopardy - the goblins know their trade. George keeps apologizing to Mr. Farrow until he is shushed several times. It is clear that neither will be of any help to you in their current condition, but at least they can walk on their own.

The goblin is quite contrite, actually, seeing opportunity in your words. He looks impressed by your magic. He tells you his name is Balex. "Dmukaz invokes the blessings of Sdubok. He push everyone around. But he not so powerful as you. You wake the earth. I much stronger leader than him, yes. But he's not King Goblin. Dmukaz sacrifice prisoners," he nods to the farmhands, "for Sdubok's gloaming. But younglings more valuable. They go to Red Robes in trade. King gets big magic. This trade is good on when night is darkest."

Clay thanks Balex for the information and offers to let him keep his chainmail for the information he has shared. All the same, we cannot let you keep your weaponry. The farmhands wouldn't have it, what with you being in charge of their punishment. Also, if we are found by your kinfolk, it wouldn't do for you to look like we liked you, right? You are a very important person and we need to protect you, I think. Hoping his thoughtfulness will be repaid, Clay pulls forth the vial of red fluid. Balex, do you know what this is or what it does?

Once answer is given, Clay pockets the vial and leads the goblin to the others, explaining that Balex will be their new guide to the girls. He sees the broken spirits of the farmhands and knows Ms. O'Hare will be needed to rally them. He kneels by her and begins to pray for Beith to grant her healing powers.

If it helps speed things along, here are a few things I would like to do at this point:
- find out what the red liquid is (though I am unlikely to trust the information...)
- heal Foxy
- claim/put on a suit of leather armor
- get the farmhands suited up in the other armor, short bows, daggers and whatever other weapons they want
stash the EPs and other weapons on Asala
- learn who Sdubok is (god, king or what?)
- learn who the red robes are
- learn what sort of magic the king has available to him (spells, items, potions, etc)
- get Balex to tell us if there are any less-used shelters that we might make use of
- move to a decent place to camp so we can rest (and I can pray)
- learn where the girls are being held right now and when the dark night is

Let me know if you prefer to handle some or all of these things in character though and I will do so. FYI, I am not opposed to getting a bit physical with Balex.

Clay goes to Foxy and prays over her, invoking the blessings of Beith and healing her punctured lung.
CLW [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

Her lung seals, the rattling ceases, she begins to breath easy. After 10 minutes she wakes up, Mr. Farrow exhaling with relief. "Glad you're still with us, Ms. O'Hare. I'm grateful for you finding my farmhands. You were right; it sounds like they kept my girls alive..." He smiles nervously, glancing back at Balex the goblin.

(You're back in the scene. :) )

The farmhands reclaim their leathers, flail, and pick, but just hold them, looking at them blankly and not putting them on. They don't seem as familiar with the bows, unwilling to pick up weapons contaminated by the goblins, anyway. Broken and hollow, they finally speak only to ask if you can all go home to the farm once the sun rises. They look uncomfortable as Clay takes the third suit of leathers -- a heavy leather overcoat with reinforced lining much like Mr. Farrow's. They glance to Mr. Farrow. "Those belong to me, I guess. But you got my men back. Giving you Theo's overcoat is the least I can do." Clay puts the coins and other weapons on the donkey who heehaws in protest at the smell of goblin.

Balex is anxious to get moving, trying to discreetly sidle away several times, each time getting a warning growl from Mors. He pleads, saying he needs to get back before the dawn. They'll need to move quick to get to the halls in time, the sun burns. He indicates that the Kings Halls are where the girls are, and that's where he intends to lead you to. It is just over four miles further and he'll need to jog, but you all should be able to make it more easily. When asked about other places, he emphasizes getting to the halls. He eventually concedes that there are many limestone pocket caves in the hills, and one is suitable about a mile and a half ahead.

"Sdubok the Vile, Sdubok the Flaming. In his magnificence he rewards those who please him with offering. He exults in fear and pain," he rattles of from rote like a litany. "Dmukaz teaches us. Is his priest."

He asks about your God and how it will help him in the face of Sdubok. How will you give him power?

After you concede to begin moving to a destination that will result in him getting out of the sun, (let me know where you're going)he is willing to talk again while you move. His words are filled with invectives and he takes glee as he explains any aspect of ill intent. He has visible relief at keeping his armor, of which he is very proud. He balks at losing his weapons, but relents when you pressure him.

Sdubok's gloaming is the first new moon after the spring equinox, he explains. You think back to the diminishing sliver of the moon since you've left town and realize that the new moon peaks (or reaches nadir) today. Moon rise has been just after dawn and setting before the sun. Doing the moon calculations taught to you by the Priests of Beith, you surmise that the moon should be in the sky all day, but only about one hour tonight after the sun has set.

You show him the small vial of red liquid and he grins broadly, nodding his head enthusiastically. He launches into a combination of tales and pantomimes that is so horrific and vulgar that it could make a prostitute vomit from the obscenity. The gist of the tale goes thus: He indicates one of the dead goblins, who is apparently a female of their kind. She was known to be frigid and refused to copulate, and was vicious enough to maim unwanted suitors. He pinned her down and forced her try the potion to see what it would do. After drinking it she became both amorous and insatiable, mating ferociously with him (as he is the strongest and best, of course) until all his muscles hurt and then five times more. He is aroused at the memory and approaches the female's corpse to repeat his conquest until stopped by your revulsion.

The King is jealous of his magic and Balex's stories tell you much of intimidation and fear, but little that might be useful in identifying truth from fiction regarding magical effects. The Red Robes are of a tall race and live further west along the foot of the mountains. They speak knowledge of Sdubok, but are not priests like Dmukaz. They have powerful magics and inspire great fear, so must be respected. They work unholy rites in ancient ruins where no goblin enters.

Foxy O'Hare

"errr....I think I better take that, ...just in case you boys get some goblinoid ideas! "

Foxy will take the red vial stowing it secure in her satchel. She adjusts her jacket to cover the rips in her blouson from the arrow wounds. It's a bloody mess but she is grateful to be still breathing. She takes an assessment of the situation and offers thus:

If a useable cave is a mile or so onwards, we make it secure and use it. To rest and hideout. The escaped goblin may try to get a group to chase after us, probably believing we will return to the farm. We cannot outrun them but the sunrise will help if they stay underground. Hoefully the cave will be empty and useable. Clay keeps the prisoner, tied and secure. Any funny business from him and we kill him, ( the goblin not Clay), like running off, calling out, leading us to an ambush, etc

This 'dark of the moon' business. Sounds like we need to act quick and decisive tonight. We can get the farmhands on side, certainly Mr Farrow will want to press on. If the shield is wood, use it Clay, it won't interfere with your ministrations.

So, to a cave and some rest.

Stirling, would you mind putting your OOC thoughts/musings in red OOC brackets? I cannot always tell what you are getting at vs Foxy. I used to think it was annoying to do this, but all you need to do is click the OOC box when posting. Thanks.

Clay Weatherwax
The aftermath of the fight revealed many culture clashes, taking away most of Clay's sense of success. Clay initially could not understand what the farmers were going on about but eventually he understood that these men were not ready to let their friend go yet. Still, he could not shake a feeling that the goblin was onto something. Surely the dead man had no more use of the coat. The dead are just dead. All the same, I apologize for being so callous. I was caught up in the moment. I thank you for the use of Theo's coat. When we are done we can return it to his family with tales of his brave sacrifice. They seemed the right words. Something he had heard from older druids ministrating to smallfolk.

Clay then found himself instinctively retracting the vial away from Foxy's attempt to grab it. Where I am from, we ask before taking. But since it was originally yours... He hands the vial back to Foxy indicating it might come in handy if they can slip some to Dmukaz since it would create much confusion.

While Balex is preoccupied with Morr and the two farmhands, Clay speaks to Mr. Farrow and Ms. O'Hare in hushed tones, We are all exhausted. If we are to be of any use to the girls, we must rest before pressing onward. A cave and sleep sleep sound wonderful, but without information from Maurice, we might be walking into a trap. We have about 2 hours before dawn, it seems any goblins will be seeking shelter from the sun. So I would prefer to camp in the relative-open so the owl can find us again; perhaps under an overhanging rock? And we need to raise the spirits of those two men if they are to be of any help.

Clay approached the farmhands and sat with them. Gus and George, I cannot imagine what you have gone through and I am sorry, again, for the death of Theo. But you left your farm with a goal of returning with those girls. It would be a shame to return empty handed, would it not? Particularly since we are so close now. And your numbers are bolstered.
Take up these weapons and turn any goblin that stands against us into food for the crows and worms. Then return to your farm as heroes.
Then he added mentally, Besides, walking back alone would surely get you lost and/or dead... He can only hope the two men will take courage from his words and rise to the occasion.

I need to run to work now, but will add in a conversation with Balex later. So many characters to interact with now!

Kudos to Marullus for weaving such a fine story wrought with conflicting resource demands. :x We need information from the goblin, we need information from the owl (about the wolves particularly). The goblin wants shelter, but we need to remain where Maurice can find us. What to do? Where to camp? Any ideas, Stirling?

After the red liquid vial is relinquished by Clay, Foxy tucks it into her satchel, a soft clink of glass-on-glass as it bumps the ampule of ruddy-opaque liquid from the infirmary. She adjusts her ripped blouse to preserve her modesty and makes a comment to impune the integrity of her male companions. Mr. Farrow is momentarily aghast at her implication, but quickly resumes being aghast and horrified by the horrid storytelling of the goblin.

The farmers seem comforted by Clay's words about Theo and relax about the coat. They are beyond being inspired by mere words, however, and continue to stare hauntedly at their weapons rather than responding positively to Clay's talk of heroism. Even with their leathers returned they shiver against the cold and wind, the freezing night-time temperatures and exhaustion bringing down the mood of the group further.

Balex sets the pace, pushing himself at a jog, but still a little slower than the humans normal pace, allowing them to continue discussing strategy. An hour passes, moving in the deep night, before Balex indicates the afore-mentioned cave and the owl returns. Maurice hoots with Clay, revealing that the wolves are running about another mile ahead. They are excited about something, but remain in proximity to the goblin hall, which is a cave entrance with a palisade fortification around it roughly two miles ahead. Balex confirms, saying that is where the girls are located, and urges you onward to reach it before sunrise.

The new moon will rise in about an hour, at 5:02am.

Foxy O'Hare

"We need to stop in the first cave, get undercover. Without a proper camp we cannot rest effectively but we can risk a small fire in a cave."

(If this goblin has indeed led us to a safe cave then let us rest up. No fear for Maurice, barn owls and kin are used to dark places to nest and hunt. Sword drawn, Foxy will check out the cave, signalling if it is all clear. Suggest we organise lookout watches, Foxy and a farmhand, Mr Farrow and the other. Two hours on each. Balex rests hand and feet tied, too close to goblin HQ for him to run off....personally I think four of the companions would kill him now but while he comes up with good info he can save his life. Get the girls back safe he can get his swords too. Who knows Clay could be the hand behind the new throne!)

Clay Weatherwax
The long trek to the cave gave Clay time to listen to Balex's account of his life. He had heard about goblins, but if even a small portion of what Balex told him was true, then he almost felt sorry for the tiny thing. Their lives were a constant, vicious struggle to survive.

As the approached the caves, Clay handed Balex's rope to Mr. Farrow. I warn you now Balex, if this is a trap... If there is even one of your kindred within that cave, Mr. Farrow and his farmhands will end your life. Painfully. With your own swords, even. But if this works out, we might give you some food. It wasn't how he usually did things, but he wanted the goblin to understand that treachery was not an option here. Will this link to any tunnels inside?

Leaving Asala with the farmers, Clay and Morr approached the cave with Ms. O'Hare, Maurice scouting ahead.

I like the close proximity to the bigger cave/fortress because we can get there quickly, but I don't lke that this cave might connect to the larger labyrinth. :? Crossing my fingers here.

"Will this link to any tunnels inside?"
The goblin shrugs. "I dunno. I never stayed here."

Foxy, Clay, and Mors approach the cave, entering with the lantern. It is cozy, a water-carved limestone chamber about forty feet across with a high ceiling. A narrow passage stretches out the back with a thin stream flowing down it.

(Nothing to worry about, right? :) )

Foxy O'Hare

Foxy will do a check for signs of cave usage, recent muddy footprints, ash from fires, half rotten food, thick heavy cobwebs. She tells Clay to bid the farmers enter with Asala and unload the donkey. We have bedrolls for three so can rotate sleep and watch duties."While the farmers set the camp at the back of the cave, better just check this tunnel out Clay. Don't need no surprises creeping on us."

In the absence of manacles chained to the wall Foxy suggests securing the goblin against a pillar or large rock.
Certainly hands and feet bound.

Leaving the lantern with the farmers, she will strike a torch to use in the tunnel.

Stirling: You have mentioned using two troches (that I recall) so far. Are those Foxy's torches or is she helping herself to Clay's? Because I have not been keeping track of any of your inventory (which is stored on Asala), just my own. So the pelts you picked up earlier are not cataloged - if the weight gets too high, I will announce what is culled form the donkey in this thread.

Marullus: So that would mean one main entrance from the outside world and then two holes in the back - one for a stream to enter, the other for it to leave, right? Which direction does it flow, roughly?

Clay Weatherwax
Clay shakes his head to Foxy, preferring to do a thorough investigation prior to inviting the others in. He retrieves a torch of his own and lights it at the cave's mouth. He pears inwards and upwards - he has heard of creatures that live in dark caves and though he is curious, he does not want to be surprised by anything.

He and Morr slowly progress counterclockwise around the edge of the cave towards the back to inspect the the portal through which the stream flows. As the two make their way, Morr continually sniffs the air while Clay uses his staff to prod the floor, being wary to not twist his ankle. Clay finds himself looking up into the shadows frequently.

Updated Character sheet:
deducted:
1 torch
1 vial of reddish liquid (possibly a aphrodisiac/lust potion) with 2 sips left

added:
23 ep
two short swords
one leather overcoat (counts as leather armor)

I will also add any other human-sized weapons to my inventory not taken by the farmers, just let me know what isn't taken from:
3 human-made shortbows
27 human-made arrows with three quivers
6 human-made daggers
one long sword
one shield
one heavy flail
one heavy pick

I don't have the rules handy right now. Can you confirm that leather armor is AC 7?

Leather armour is AC 8.

Foxy would recommend that the farmers take the heavy flail and pick. And wear two of the tattered armour suits. If the shield is wooden Clay could use it otherwise arm Mr Farrow with the longsword and shield. Foxy has enough arrows and spare bowstrings. I would snap the goblin spear and the unused bows and arrows in half and just take the extra daggers as throwing weapons. The three farmers could carry two each.

When we started, Foxy loaded the saddlebag with a lantern, 6 flasks of lamp oil and three days of preserved rations, mess tins, cooking gear, flint &steel firelighter and tinderbox. And her sleeping bag. The only additional items on Asala are the wolf pelts and two short swords of Balex.

If Foxy takes a torch without asking she is not being rude, she would just see everything as communal party gear for the expedition and useable by anyone as needed. You don't need my permission to take the lantern or use any oil. All the coins we find we put in a party pot, replace gear as necessary with and split equally at the end. The only non communal item is her sleeping bag, girl gotta have some privacy.

Think the donkey has lots of weight she could bear before it hinders our speed. One of the children for example.

We need to get inside the cave as soon as we can, too close to prowling wolves and goblin HQ to stand around. Foxy will assist in unloading Asala and making the goblin secure and getting the farmers to hide our tracks, sort breakfast. Foxy will come down the stream passage with you.

Stirling wrote:Leather armour is AC 8.

Thanks. Character Sheet amended.

Point taken about lingering outside the cave. I was worried about our morale-lacking farmers running away if we get attacked.

Foxy would recommend that the farmers take

Entirely up to Marullus, of course, but I would love to see them with the bows and whatever melee weaponry available. I have a feeling that Marullus's repeated mentioning of them being broken indicates that they have armor at this point, but nothing else - maybe a dagger... If they don't want the bows, we can sell/trade them in town.

If Foxy takes a torch without asking she is not being rude

Though she does act entitled from Clay's perspective ( ;) ), I wasn't worried about her manners. Clay really only cares about the animals. I was asking only because I like the "accounting" side of things. I like to see the resources dwindle, which forces tough decisions. Out of curiosity then, how many torches have we used in their entirety? It doesn't seem like any were used for too long. Marullus? (In the mean time I will mark off 2 used (from right now)

All the coins we find we put in a party pot

Aside from the coins she pocketed in the last cave? ;) But that is OOC knowledge, of course.

Think the donkey has lots of weight she could bear before it hinders our speed.

I will tally that up as some point...

Stirling wrote:If the shield is wooden Clay could use it

Despite the characteristics of Beith and the druids, this is still basic LL. The only restriction on Clay is that he cannot use pointy weapons. That said, I am fond of the staff, so I will keep it. Clay will take the shield if (i) no one else does, (ii) quarterstaves are not 2-handed and (iii) it doesn't impede his ability to cast spells (r/t hand movements being necessary). Otherwise it gets strapped to the donkey as additional armor.

Edit: just checked the rules and leather armor is AC7. Sheet updated (again)

The pair wave the others in and they begin to bed-down with a camp. There are no manacles in the wall, but there are stalagmites jutting up from the floor, some as high as five feet. As the goblin can't reach that high, Mr. Farrow decides to lash him to it.

There are no recent signs of habitation, or as frequent habitation, as the previous cave. Some bedding materials from a wild large animal, but no scent or feces detectable by Mors to denote it being recent. There is a bit of a draft near the front entrance and scorches on the stone showing a fire had been lit there successfully in the past. The farmers set to work repeating this task and lighting a small fire. They bring in enough dropwood for the day and they follow your directions and try to mask the signs of tracks outside.

Clay and Foxy explore the narrow passage at the rear of the cave. It is carved by natural water over the ages and fluctuates in its width and height somewhat painfully. At points you need to turn sideways, or hunch sharply, or crawl when both are true. There is definitely no room to swing a weapon, here. About 80 feet in, you are too big a creature to continue without crawling on your hands and knees. You can hear the trickling of water continue deeper in.

  • Regular leather is AC 8 (6gp, 15lbs). Studded leather is AC 7 (30gp, 20lbs). The dead farmer had normal leather.
  • The quarterstaff is two-handed, does 1d6, and weighs 4lbs. It also is pleasantly thematic for a wandering druid. :) To get more oomph, your only bludgeon option is the heavy flail for 1d8 and weighing 10lbs, or something akin to a polearm for 1d10 and 15lbs.
  • The farmers are wearing their leathers now, and holding the flail and pick. Mr. Farrow prefers to keep his flail; as a farmer, he is more comfortable. The sword and shield belonged to the dead guy. Gus is holding the Heavy Flail currently, but is willing to take the sword and shield if you prefer. Gus and George could find their courage again, but pep-talks alone won't do it out here in the wilds.
  • The bows, arrows, quivers, and daggers were made by humans but used by the goblins. They can generally be sold in town used at half-book cost.
  • So far, you expended one vial of oil and two torches. Foxy had the oil; she has no torches. They needed to come from Clay's supplies on Asala. Thank you for being mindful of the accounting.
  • There is one passage in the rear of the cave, not two. The water collects in the cave via seepage, gathering in a small pool, which then flows over with a tiny rivulet of water down the passage deeper under the ground.

Clay Weatherwax
Feeling relatively secure in the cave, Clay assists with the preparations for a camp, pulling forth some of the meager foodstuffs in the saddlebags, sharing it with all those that are with him, animals and goblin-alike (but being mindful of his fingers with Balex). He hoots with Maurice, letting the owl know how appreciated he is.
Many thanks for your assistance. It is a great burden to be tethered to the earth as we are - your vantage point has been invaluable. If I may impose further, would you be kind enough to alert us to anything that might encroach on this cave, giving us ample warning? We will only plan to stay here for a few hours.
Clay lets the others know that Maurice will be looking out, but that would not preclude taking shifts on watch. He hands Gus the sword and shield, asking him to use them well in memory of his fallen friend. He then retires to his bedroll and prays, holy beads cradled in his hands as he whispers recited prayers.

I am happy to set up camp here and take ~8 hours to rest, pray and memorize spells.

Marullus, is the water in the cave potable? I only ask because we are between wilderness and a cave. In a cave it matters but in the wilderness we assume water sources are available.

We were fed through yesterday and this is the beginning of a new day. Is it appropriate to eat now for the next day? Does Asala graze here or eat from rations?

I agree. What is more is that it is also more realistic for Clay's scrawny frame!

My cleric might be more "clerical" than "cleric-ish." ;)

Foxy O'Hare

Foxy wriggles her fat ass' out of the passageway. Satisfied that it doesn't open into a den of wolves. There might be more further in but we are not here for that exploration.

Foxy will fix some breakfast, giving Clay a plate as well so he can spoon feed the trussed up goblin. Over breakfast she will gather the farmers and in a time of 'grace and thanksgiving' bless the food and for the mercy of the cave's protection. Foxy takes out the vial given by the cleric of Eruanna, passing it around the farmers to take a sip each. "We have been blessed, beaten once though we are not down trodden, clothed in rags we are now clothed in armour, defenceless now we have weapons of warfare, he who bound you now lies in chains, he who sought to rob your house, tonight we shall seek to rob his castle and rescue those girls from the wicked red robes. "

Maybe now awe inspiring, but she feels using the vial now may remove any fear of the farmhands and stop them fleeing as we rest. Rest, oh yeah that big pile of soft branch some bear made comfortable for me, poking it with a spear just to make sure no snake lies hidden underneath.

I suggest we set at least four two hour watch guards. Foxy and a farmhand first, then Mr F and the other. Repeat that a second time thus giving Clay time to sleep and study. Clay can take the final watch with Mors. Also suggest we pile loose rocks and stones into the passageway to block it if we can so creatures lurking higher along the passageway will alert us by knocking them over should they try to come by. A keep a reserve of wood by the fire.

With prayers to Eruanna, Foxy offers the small ampule, inviting the farmhands to each take a sip. Gus and George each do so, Mr. Farrow politely declines, leaving one sip when the ampule is returned to Foxy. The change in them is visible. Where they were broken, they are now restored - vibrant men with the passion to search for the children they cared for. Mr. Farrow is much relieved to see them back to being the men he recognizes, the stains of goblin torture washed away.

Foxy and the farmhands make a small mound of stones in the passage to alert if something tries to come through that way. The watches are set - the farmhands desire action and balk at the idea of rest. They concede at last to remain in the cave, but take the first watch. After four hours pass their ardour has cooled but they remain their old selves. They thank you for rescuing and restoring them and lay down to take their rest while Foxy and Mr. Farrow take the next shift.

Both shifts pass without issue. Clay is well-rested when he wakes and able to focus on his own prayers and supplications. The owl flutters in, ill-tempered and tired, and goes to sleep in the dark of the cave. The farmers talk amongst themselves in low tones, then when your other work is done, ask, "So, what is the plan to get the girls back? Can't have them going to these 'red robes' or anysuch. The new moon'll be passed in a few hours."

Day: 03 May 2021
Time: 01:00 pm
Light source: Campfire in the cave; sunlight outside (Sunset 8:53pm)
Temp: 52 F in the cave
Wind: None in the cave

Foxy O'Hare

"Clay, we need Balex to talk, give us information on the strength we face ahead and a general layout of the camp. can he draw us an accurate map. (Any chance he could be charmed into doing so, the more accurate the better as I dread him deceiving us with wrong information?)

Foxy will use part of the passage way to wash change and do what ladies need to do. Did she recover any lost HP while resting?

Foxy will address the farmers, "Mr Farrow, these girls are your daughter and friend. I cannot say how we shall save them or dictate the risks that we take. I will though give my full endeavour to the purpose and trust our paths shall be made straight. The daylight may help us if goblin guards are in siesta mood. One goblin got away though so we have to expect the goblin king has been warned of our approach. Maybe we need to have a look at other ways to get into the stockade instead of assaulting the front gates."

Foxy suggests a couple of us go and have a sneaky look at the gates, maybe 'eyes in the sky' can give us that birds eye view of the place.
When we do go, we have to risk taking Balex with us, Asala might be safer here in the cave.
It is this trade with the red robes that gives me both caution and optimism. Maybe we attack the RR when they have left the goblin camp with the girls? Not sure...more info will give us better judgement.

Did Balex intend for the farmers to be sacrificed at the same time as the captives get traded? Hope then that the majority of the goblins and any spell using shaman are busy in their chapel and we can charge the prison cells?
