Lauranna will leave her pouch with Caelvanna. ''Will you hold this for me please? But I might be back for the water breathing, if I can't make it."

OOC:I assume the potion is staying out.

Caelvanna, on high alert, spots Lauranna approaching with her pouch. The wild elf, her bow already occupying her hands, nods at the ledge at her feet. "It'll be safe," she says non-committedly.

~ The party moves into position and makes ready with a purposeful if not excited manner.

Caelvanna sheaths her sword and climbs up out of the water onto the rock ledge. She readies her bow and an arrow in her usual, businesslike, Wild elf guerrilla fighter way and starts looking for anything foolish enough to show itself and threaten. Lauranna sheaths her sword, removes her pack and sets it on the rock ledge neck to Bogdan's armor. She prepares to follow the big half-orc underwater. Emm moves over and casts Invisibility to Animals on first Bog, then Lauranna, then herself. She then casts her Water Breathing spell on herself. The druidess finally sets her pouches down on her shield, grabs up her spear and nods that she's good to go. Ulrich moves over to ledge next to the entrance and makes ready to be of assistance to anyone or anything coming and going during their the recovery operation.

Now stripped down to his belt and skivvies, Bog smirks impatiently with his hands on his hips while he waits for the others to complete their preparations. When he gets the ready nod from the Emm, he takes a chug of the potion of water breathing and sets it down by the bag of food-chum on the ledge. With Karagonian masterwork spear in one hand, light coin in the other and 2 large sacks tied to his belt, the big fighter dives down in the crab hole...

~ Bog swims down in the hole, followed immediately by Emm and Lauranna. The light coin's magical illumination vaporizes the dark shadows below the entrance, revealing an area roughly spherical (@ 15 feet around) with a dully glittery floor. At the back wall is a mostly circular tunnel (@ 6 feet around) that leads further in eastward. A few small crabs or critters just within the passage scurry away further in to avoid the bright incursion, and make for the darkness beyond the light coin's reach.

The three underwater explorers can see the floor of this area is covered in debris, made up mostly of well over a score of giant baby crab shells, legs and pincers. Mixed in are the bones of numerous fish and husks of other sea creatures. Oddly enough, lying just before the entrance of the underwater tunnel, appears to be a human skull and upper skeleton.

Once feet touch the bottom and the detritus is scattered, the trio can see the reason why the floor glittered as it did. There are coins scattered everywhere. In fact, they look to be covering the entire floor under the huggy layer of underwater debris carpeting it.

Time Underwater (not being considered a full minute at present)
Bog: 1/2 round
Emm: 1/2 round
Lauranna: 1/2 round

Invisibility to Animals spell: duration: 13 minutes (1 turn + 1rd/level)

Water Breathing spell: duration: 3 hours (18 turns; 6 turns/level)

Potion of Water Breathing: 1 hour (6 turns) + 1-10 minutes (DM's roll! :geek: )

Lauranna: Holding her breath (1eDSG,pg12)
- No Strenuous Activity: 4 minutes (1/3 Constitution, rounded up) includes normal movement/swimming, searching for secret doors, picking locks, etc.
- Strenuous Activity: 2 minutes (1/3 Constitution divided by 2, rounded up) includes fighting, attempting to subdue or move an uncooperative character or creature, trying to lift and move heavy weight, moving at high speed, being fully encumbered, wearing metal armor*, etc.

POP1: a character does not immediately drown & die when their breath runs out. They make a CON check after their breath runs out, then if they make it, they can hold their breath for another minute. The next round there's a -2 penalty, a -4 penalty the next, etc. until they leave the water. Failure on that check indicates blackout and death will occur by drowning in the following round.

OOC: ok all, I'm assuming that Caelvanna & Ulrich are holding stations/actions above, unless something happens/occurs. For Bog, Emm & Lauranna, go ahead and state declared actions and we'll go from there! :)

Bog examines the skull and skeleton quickly before slowly advancing into the tunnel. If either of the others stays close to the entrance, bog does not advance far enough to take away their light (if he can even go that far).

Emm only glances at the coin, and takes a moment to watch Bog examine the skeletal remains of the unfortunate, and also takes an interest in the crab shells. She tries to visually determine what might have killed them.

~ With the magically omnipotent brilliance of the light coin illuminating the crab den, the trio of underwater explorers are able to assess the scene and move upon their respective curiosities. Up above in the watery cave guarding over and standing ready to assist is Caelvanna and Ulrich. Nothing new arrives or happens while the Wild elf archer keeps her keen eyes roving and the stolid dwarf cleric stares down underwater to see what the others are up to.

With spear in one hand and light coin in the other, Bogdan comes to terms with the fact that he can actually breath underwater and swims over to the entrance of the underwater tunnel to take a closer look at what turns out to be the top half of a human or humanoid skeleton lying there. It's missing one arm and both legs from no doubt some most unfortunate deadly turn of events. The half-orc can see that it's skull has a small hole punched in the very back of it and that all of it's teeth on the left side are missing, giving it a weird, slack-jawed half smile. He then looks up and holds the coin inside the entrance of the tunnel to have a look-see ahead and prepares to move in...

Emm momentarily rejoices in the power of her underwater breathing spell as she watches Bog swim over and look at the partial skeleton of some unfortunate soul. Noticing the many pieces of dead baby crabs scattered all about the chamber have her reapplying her focus. Closer scrutinization reveals that they look to have been crushed and torn asunder. There are still small pieces of crab meat lying about that get kicked up when anyone steps on or comes into contact with the floor, so the druid is able to conclude that whatever ate them must have been too big to worry about the smaller scraps.

Lauranna holds her breath as she watches Bog and Emm examine the contents of the former underwater abode now turned graveyard. She looks up and sees the glint of the chain-armored dwarf staring down in the hole watching them. When the High elf notices Bogdan shine the light coin into the tunnel and prepare to move in, she swims over and gets ready to follow him in.

~ Bogdan moves eastward into the underwater tunnel about 30 feet and stops to make sure he's not leaving the others in the dark. Lauranna is right behind him, timing her breath and making sure she knows when she has to turn around and swim back for air. Turning back around and cupping his hand slightly for a brief moment so that the light just shines away from him, Bog sees what appears to be another opening or perhaps passage branching off the main one another 20 feet ahead. It's in the left (north) wall and about 5 feet in diameter. The main tunnel continues ahead into watery darkness.

Bog: 2 rounds
Emm: 2 round
Lauranna: 2 round

Invisibility to Animals spell: duration: 13 minutes (1 turn + 1rd/level) Bog: 9 minutes left, Lauranna: 10 minutes left, Emm: 11 minutes left (represents the order Emm cast the spells in)

Water Breathing spell: duration: 3 hours (18 turns; 6 turns/level) 2 hours 58 minutes left

Potion of Water Breathing: 1 hour (6 turns) + 1-10 minutes (DM's roll! :geek: ) 58 minutes + 1-10 minutes left

Lauranna: Holding her breath (1eDSG,p12-book/p13-pdf) 2 minutes left

POP1: Swimming & moving in water: (1eDSG,p13-book/p14-pdf) The rules are divided into three basic functions: endurance, speed and diving. The overall encumbrance of a individual makes a difference to all the aforementioned functions listed, as well as their ability to surface when underwater. An unencumbered individual effectively doubles the normal limit(s).
Normal speed swimming underwater is 40 feet/round for humans and 30 feet/round for demihumans and humanoids. A character can swim at high speed, effectively doubling that speed but cutting their time to hold their breath in half (see previous post's OOC for Lauranna). Strength adds a bonus to this as well. You can read pgs 12-14 (or 13-15 on pdf) in the 1eDSG to become familiar with the basic mechanics I'll be referencing.

~ While Emm continues to examine the dead baby crab shells and bits and Bogdan considers the underwater tunnel ahead, Lauranna swims back up to the opening for air. Ulrich begins to ask her what they've found, if anything, and what they are seeing down there, but the flighty High elf just takes a deep breath and dives down again without saying a word. After a WTF shrug to each other, Ulrich and Caelvanna continue to keep a vigilant eye out inside the tunnel and down in the hole, irrespective of their lack of current underwater intel.

Realizing that the light coin will not leave Emm in the dark too badly, Bog underwater walks himself up to the opening in the left wall of the tunnel and peers in cautiously, his Karagonian masterwork spear at the ready for any unpleasant potentialities. There are none currently and with the light of the magical coin, the big half-orc is able to see that it's another roughly-circular passage (@ 5' diameter). It leads north and slightly eastward for @ another 25-30 feet and appears to open up into a wider area or possibly another chamber beyond. Cupped hand looks with the light coin further eastward reveal that the main tunnel begins to slope downward and jog slightly to the left (north), before continuing on into watery darkness. Having taken a fresh and full breath of air, Lauranna swims back up behind Bogdan and looks past him curiously to see what's what.

OOC: we're going to have to stick together if this is going to work. There is only one light source and time is very limited, so no dilly dallying.

Bog waves his arm to get everyone's attention, then once Emm has caught up, moves into the smaller passage heading north, hoping to find a pocket of air.

Lauranna follows Bog quickly down the left turn, glad it didn't go down any deeper. At least she knows which turn the other two swimmers took when she needs to return for more air. Scanning the infrared spectrum, she notes no significant difference in temperature to show her the way.

The party splits up; Bog, Emm & Lauranna go swimming...

~ Bogdan makes the underwater c'mon-let's-go signal when Lauranna returns with a fresh breath and Emm looks up from her impromptu necropsy to see what they're up to. As soon as the young druid moves inside the eastern tunnel, the big fighter takes the lead and swims into the smaller northern offshoot. Lauranna is right behind and does likewise. Emm reaches the intersection and enters into the smaller tunnel just behind them:

Ulrich is able to see the light from the magic coin begin to fade more and more until he can no longer register it's continual illumination coming out of the eastern tunnel leaving the crab den. Other than the sound of dripping water and the shallow surf lapping up against the walls and rock ledge in the watery cave, all is dark and quiet again.

******************************************

OOC: ok then, I'm going to go ahead and start up another thread for the underwater explorations titled: Into the underwater grotto! At present, Ulrich and Caelvanna are the only ones that will post here in the thread until the trio of underwater cave divers return.

I thought about moving things to PM for Bog, Lauranna & Emm but it would be more of a pain in the butt and take longer than I want, especially since I've been able to post with more frequency lately. Besides, I've known and gamed with each of you a while and I think I can trust you guys to keep IC/character and OOC/player knowledge separated. So no metagame warnings need be applied! ;)

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or need any further clarifications! :)
