[Closed] Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Copying a spell costs 75gp in materials to craft appropriate ink per spell level. There's no roll needed, the materials are easy to come by, and any MU or elf can do it. It just costs.

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Well then Master Varcand, I believe that we have an accord. My Sleep spell for your Read Magic? There is only one problem however. At the moment I haven't the time, or the necessary funds to make this happen.psionboy wrote:"Hmm. I would very much like your Sleep spell. It seems as though your companions are eager to head out. Therefore I shall wait here until you are available and we will make the exchange."
I'm about a week ahead of you, so unless you want to wait in town that long we can make the swap when our timelines converge. Unless the gods see fit to cast me backwards in time, which is not without precedent.
If you would allow it, I suggest we wait a week or so, possibly until around the time of the festival. Then my party can have another shot at procuring some more coin, but still make it back for the celebration and a much needed break. There will be more than enough time then, and hopefully we will be successful in our adventures and come back with plenty to spend as well.
That is, if Olympia here doesn't mind blessing her area a day or two before they break ground?
My compatriots here seem to be enjoying a laugh or twelve at my expense, but don't let that deter you from doing business with me. I assure you that only one of us is the brains of this group, damaged as they may be. Wendall makes a face at Varas and Dorvar, indicating that he is trying to do business here.
So what do you say to that Varcand? Does that seem like it would work for you all?
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Harrowing, 1 VC
Bertram's expedition returns in the dead of night, not laden with treasure but with the wounded.
The group checks in to the inn and the wounded begin to heal.
Quirin regains consciousness with 0 HP on April 3. (4 day's lodging)
Largo regains consciousness with with 0 HP on April 3 (4 day's lodging).
Everyone must purchase one night at the inn to finish off the night until the morning of Harrowing.
Please indicate in the Town Business thread whether you plan to participate in the festival so I can add you to that thread today and pause your forward movement.
Check the final post of the expedition thread (now closed) for rewards. And congratulations on bringing everyone back alive from a ten-day expedition...the new record!

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Quirin will rent a private suite to convalesce within, until he is back to full HP. Which, ha ha, shouldn't take long.
He offers up any extra space in the suite to his fellow party members free of charge, as thanks for carrying his skinny ass back to civilization.
Let me know when Quirin is back to full strength and I'll deduct the full amount of money.
Also assume that I will pay back whoever puts me up while I'm unconscious.

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
It takes just one additional day for Quirin to recover completely.
So 7s total inn fees.

Ghrym bustles back in after having completed enough tasks elsewhere not to risk Wendall's ire and notes the conversation between him and Varcand.
"If either of you is looking for spells, a fella by the name of Lars--a skinny little human, he was--had one he was offering for sale. If either of you were interested, I could try to arrange a meeting."

Varcand frowns. "As it happens, I also lack the funds to enscribe spells at the moment. I shall need to imperil my life, it seems, in order to further the pursuit of knowledge."

For the record Olympia is prepared to leave any time--the ground-breaking thing isn't really her priority. She'll do a quick-bless on the ground on her way out of town.
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Overhearing parts of the conversation, Melvin steps forward to The Wendall when it turns out Varcand lacks the funds to exchange spells.
"I do have the funds to exchange spells," he tells The Wendall. "I would also be happy to do any reading of magic you might require, for a reasonable fee. Go on your adventure, and meet me here when you return. As I understand it, you might have a full adventure by the time you catch up with my current time. All I ask is your promise that you will engage in this exchange with me when you return."
Turning to Varcand, he says, "I do not mean to shut you out. When you have the funds to copy spells, I would be happy for a small fee to inscribe the sleep spell into your spellbook. I might also be interested in a spell swap, depending on what other spells you know."

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Well then Melvin, can I ask what you would charge per spell to Read Magic? I have a book with 3 spells in it but I can't seem to figure out what they are. Don't bother trying to gouge me either. I don't need the service that badly.
He then turns to Varcand. Perhaps you seek a group to join friend?

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
I'm not certain where Largo ended up being stashed, but he would also like to rest until he has regained both of his precious, precious hit points. He is broke before treasure is alloted, but can pay someone back from his share.
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
"Yes, if I am to head out into these savage environs, as seems to be my lot, I would gladly do so along experienced adventurers such as yourselves. By any chance would you be seeking out the goblins that vex the local authority?"
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
"Does 3 gp per spell seem too exorbitant a fee for their identification?" Melvin asks The Wendall.
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Unfortunately I don't think a third party identifying them helps The Wendall in learning them himself. But I could be mistaken.

Wendall thinks about it for a second....You know....Im not really sure. I suppose it is a fair price. How long will it take do you think?Zhym wrote:"Does 3 gp per spell seem too exorbitant a fee for their identification?" Melvin asks The Wendall.

Yes! We like to kill goblins! What is your specialty sir? I like to put things to sleep.psionboy wrote:"Yes, if I am to head out into these savage environs, as seems to be my lot, I would gladly do so along experienced adventurers such as yourselves. Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
"I intend to set them against one another, by enslaving them to my will." Varcand chuckles. "If these goblins are as feeble-minded and treacherous as I've heard, this should not prove difficult."
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
No, it would not aid him in learning the spells, but it might help him determine whether he would prefer to sell off the book rather than invest further in learning them, if they don't seem useful.psionboy wrote:Unfortunately I don't think a third party identifying them helps The Wendall in learning them himself. One additional day will be necessary, for 5 days total (or 5s, once he is up and can pay).psionboy wrote:I'm not certain where Largo ended up being stashed, but he would also like to rest until he has regained both of his precious, precious hit points. "Sounds like the plan is to wait for a few days for the Fabulous Magic Brothers to scribble in their books. Then we all go off to do..what now? Whatever it is, it'll have to be short. I want to get back for The Harrowing. Well, anyway, I'm about to go on a hell of a bender. You'll be able to find me at Dorvar's Drinking Corner" says Varas.
10 ales a day/common lodging/food for 4 days is 1sp/2sp/4sp if I recall correctly. I'll deduct an extra 3sp to calm Ghrym's nerves putting up with him."
