Grimm takes communicates the information to his companions and takes a look at the pit.

Elnaerel decides to contribute and takes a look herself for secret or concealed doors.

DM aside:

Grimm peers into the pit for a while, pretty sure he sees some kind of construction in the stonework along its north wall.

Feanol stares where the dwarf points out, pretty sure she can see the outline of a secret door that Amun didn't notice when she was skewered below.

Elnaerel

"There's a door there. In the wall. Yes. Within the pit itself.

We should use something to cover the spikes. The door is too big and I don't see how we can cut it in half.

We could lower someone, Grimm, with a rope and then the rest of us could come afterward. Only the last one can be tricky."

Is there enough space between the secret door and the spikes to go down shortly with a rope without touching the spikes?

Grimm gives Wes his spear back. "Sorry for mistreating your weapon... I might still need it when I go down there, you know?" He points to the pit.

Wes

"Keep it", says Wes with a shrug. "It's just a piece of wood. If it helps you find a trap down here, it's more than done it's job.

"Does anyone have a spike? We can drive one into the floor here. Run a rope around it with people in the pit belaying at both ends. Then the last person can slide down without risking falling into the pit. All we lose is a spike, instead of a piece of rope."

Grimm

"I do have some spikes and a hammer. Let's do it!" The dwarf gets down to work.

Amun nods and rummages through her backpack once more.

"And here's my rope. It got me out of there so it will get you down again. she laughs.

Luther
Luther grumbles something about feeling useless, but pitches in to help set up the rope-and-spike.

"We could simply lower the doors in so they angle down towards the north wall, with the other end sticking out of the south lip of the pit, thereby granting us access to the wall while separating us from the spikes," observes Chauncey with the air of someone who has no intention of grabbing and moving a heavy door himself or of aiding anyone else in the "grunt work" required.

Amun

"I have no idea what you just said but avoiding spikes sounds very good to me."

She crouches down and lifts the door using her legs, muscles strained, sweat running.

"Where. Phew. You. Want it?"

Nod a good idea. Too steep. Despite his comment, Luther joins in, helping arrange the door.

Dungeon Training
Disturbed Floor Room

The party secures themselves from being skewered further by the short spikes at the bottom of the pit, sending their thief down for a better look.

Grimm finds the doorway to be part of the pit wall itself, blending in with the stonework and mortar lines almost perfectly.

Looking it over for danger, he finds no indication of traps, so he gives it a little nudge inward, feeling the door move in slightly from his shove.

Actions?

Grimm takes a deep breath before pushing the door slowly and carefully. When the door is halfway open, he peeks inside to see if his dwarf vision allows him to see anything alive inside.

And, while he's at it, he listens to see if anything moves.

Wes

Wes stands by with his bullseye lantern. Once Grimm has taken a look through the dark doorway, Wes will shine his light in the same direction.

"Well, now Luther, we have a delightful slide. No reason we can't mix a little fun into our business, is there?" says Chauncey, preparing himself for when it is his turn to "go down the slide."

Dungeon Training
Disturbed Floor Room

Grimm learns that the secret door opens into a suspicious looking rough stone tunnel about 8 feet wide that turns to the right 20 feet past the pit wall.

His infravision shows no signs of heat coming from anywhere inside.

The hallway and its distant bend are both dead quiet.

Actions?

Amun (F3) AC:2 17/33
Crabbe Luther AC:4 15/30
Chauncey (MU5) AC:3 30/30 RM, CL, DM 1/4 1st 1/2 2nd 1/1 3rd

Amun shouts

"What do you see down there Grimm? Does it seem safe? No more traps?"

If Grimm deems it safe she'll slide down with the others when it's her turn.

Grimm

"Let me check first for traps. Wes, can you give me back the spear now that I'm down? I'd also need a torch. Thanks." Once he has both objects, he starts prodding the floor, ceiling and walls with the spear, and checking the way everything is constructed with his dwarven instincts.

How high is the ceiling?
