After a brief conflab with a scheduling agent from Hiram's Shmutter Klaus encounters an enthusiastic young man (from one of Collace's sub cultures) turning up to take his measurements. The process involved the only minimal but necessary personal contact together with numerous questions and monologue during the actual measuring carried out by the journeyman tailor "My uncle he's the alterkaker but he's fearful of the "Zhodani black". I tell him it's no darker than the cleric's black - and yet he worries! Such a schlep up and down the Spire - busy times. Now I will make you a suit! Before we get to stitching di shtof would you like any... allowance? You are mersener zelner, yes? I have another uncle... Mister Solomon. He says there should be allowance in a suit for holstered insurance we carry the dimensions of all common... er... brands and maybe the suit itself might be of more robust wear? He says the lining makes the suit so we offer mesh, ballistic cloth or reflec. However, there are increases on the cost for both and this goes beyond our delivery service. There's been a lot of demand recently... We're run off our feet!"
The discrete addition of some ballistic cloth would be a nice touch. No need for holstering but if you could include some invisible pockets to hold one of these.

Klaus discretely shows one of his knives then quickly tucks it back into concealment.

"As to SuSAG, not my field at all, but if they are heading for a "difficult board meeting" it would be most advisable to ensure that if we sign up it is with the wining side. Something Mr. Sicarius said - if the other client is literally "landing" at a Sky Spire bar at the peak of the arcology then that might be Colonel Skeet. Doesn't he have a habit of throwing himself from perfectly serviceable space craft and performing re-entry?"
I realise I'm new here and not fully p to speed, but one of the prospective recruits called in to remove himself from consideration. That call seemed to be from a pretty classy bar in the spire, definitely higher class than a former sergeant would frequent. It may be nothing but could he have been sniffing around us for SuSAG?

To Liv:

"Maybe the guy Jakob met on Avadyan is the real Urvan. A deniable rogue asset covering his tracks with doubles and stooges. Who knows, maybe he has the power to convince them they are the real thing. As for SuSAG, it would be very interesting to see if 4DC received a similar offer and what their thoughts are about it. I wonder if we could arrange a discreet face-to-face with Colonel Skeet later today, maybe at Gunny's. "

Liv nods and puts a call through her personal comm - whoever she talks to makes her smile.

She reports "Duran states that Colonel Skeet will be at the Stratosphere Bar at Spire's Peak accompanied by "whoever survives re-entry with him". Apparently he has scheduled a short business meeting there followed by "light refreshment" until the early hours. He will apparently be accompanied by his "cheerleaders" therefore Duran advises that you take no one with you who hasn't already signed a contract. He offers commiserations to our Sergeant Arnholdt but says that he's sure that he will understand once you explain the circumstances. The Sergeant's our new signing - you should meet him. Duran also sends his personal regards and thanks the QSM for a rather fine Scotch".

She checks her comm and smiles again "Time enough to get there and back if you don't need to spend too much time on your hair or picking an outfit for dinner tonight".

She adds "The Zhodani “Scribe” Itvikiasatl contacted HQ - apparently black tie or formal military are acceptable dress codes for dining. Just as well we sorted the unit's formal uniform but I'll get someone from Hiram's Schmutter on way just in case anyone's caught out".

(OOC: I'm in the pub tomorrow (Edit: tomorrow night(!!) :P ) but plan to get you all "dining with the Ambassador" as the next event. :SAN: )

Frank contacts Jess

"Sargent Major, Colonel Skeet thanks you for the whiskey. It seems 4DC is actively recruiting, so we need to get on top of signing anyone we're interested in."

Frank quickly changes into suitable civvy attire for an upspire bar and borrows a grav-vehicle for transport. He makes sure he doesn't enter the bar until he's sure Sicarius has left."

Skeet and various buddies are present and attired in high tech vacc suits having just parachuted onto the bar's extended "balcony" atop the arcology (after achieving re-entry and then freefall as per their mad sport). Within there is very much a vibe of "macho après-ski'" and plenty of Up Spire admirers for this "wealthy sport". Needless to say 4DC's top recruiters, the blond twins Styx and Lethe, are navigating these testosterone rich waters like predators in their natural environment...

Skeet greets Frank warmly and presses a drink into his hand "I don't know how much you know about Corporates. They are undoubtedly good clients as far as their credit rating goes but they are ruthless enough to off an entire Merc unit should it suit their purpose. The kicker is that, unlike most pissed off clients, they usually have the resources to do it. Obviously they don't make it a habit on the grounds of being a bad business model - it's the paying twice for the same job they're against. You met their rep? You noticed he'd come all the way over from their Trin office to visit here? Well, that's not where he works. The Executive Outcomes Division are SuSAG's troubleshooters and that's not really a figurative term - although they generally prefer "accidents". You liked the name right? It's his job title: "Nameless Assassin". And, there was me thinking they were all utterly humourless".

"Bottom line I'm not a Corporate fan so I told Sicarius to keep his money. Here's the SP. Their current local guy - Drace Keening? Well, he has somehow buggered the bursar, screwed the pooch... or whatever and, like most kings, he likes his kingdom and doesn't want to give it up. Now, Corporate wars are more than good for the Merc business. They're also a great opportunity to kick a man who thoroughly deserves it when he's down - but, fought on the "suits" terms, they are short and vicious. It also really pays to pick the winning side".

"SuSAG wants a nice, brutal regime change but unfortunately for them that result's now not going to happen anytime soon. This is because Sicarius is a "solutions" man - a tactician not a strategist. Therefore, driven by pragmatism and obvious logic, he's now on his way to wreck an otherwise spotless Corporate career - I sent him to see Yūgure". Skeet grins "So, not a bad time to be in the business! Stay and have a drink". Waving at the bar owner he calls "Champagne all round!"

Frank accepts the drink with a nod and a smile

"I certainly know the ruthlessness that corporations can go to, particularly this one...remember the Bartizan? I had the same gut reaction to the offer that you had. Nice move with Yūgure" he grins . Anything that gives them a headache is fine by me...I have an important appointment shortly, but I can stay for one drink."

Frank

One drink in good company later, and now no longer labouring under the misapprehension that champagne is always served in neat "flutes" and relishing the discovery that, as a beverage, it really is a "nice pint", refreshing even, Frank returns to the Bartizan. Before setting off downspire he checks that the grav car's glove box has its issue autopistol plus two spare mags and the brown envelope marked "Collace PD Widows and Orphans" in situ however the return trip is entirely uneventful.

While returning the relaxed wave of the Ranger on duty at the SEMC grav landing zone Frank spots the soldier's mate behind the squad support variant "ALMG" covering the area. He muses over what the Zhodani would make of them and is then immediately thankful that they are currently rostered as external security. He then worries that Collace natives are therefore internal security...

Checking his comm Frank notes that Meet new Sgt has been inserted into his "To Do" list.

All

Dinner is served!

Or more appropriately - the parade time for dinner approaches.

Dress code is "Dress Uniform" this is interesting for a merc regiment as, whilst to a degree "uniform", it is also somewhat unique to the wearer.

The SEMC unit "distinctions" (or facing colours) have been established as "Murray" (Purple) over "Blue" thus a (light) purple tunic over blue trousers/skirt is appropriate dress. However, due to mercenary unit tradition/leeway a full Sword World or Imperial "mess dress" with either "Murray and Blue" epaulettes or possibly a similarly coloured sash (if the wearer's military were of a more "bohemian" flavour) would be equally appropriate.

Some guidance has been provided on the unit datanet.

Re: Mess Dinner with Ambassador (Mess Dress) Officers and NCOs

Guests (Officers, NCOs on application) may bring a "plus one".

Officers will be aware of their responsibilities re dress code.

Note for Officers - do not stop reading.

Mess Dress of your old unit is appropriate as SEMC Mess Dress with appropriate unit SEMC distinctions [SEMC epaulettes available Capt.Voss].

Medals and/or service and campaign ribbons to be worn.

Military tailoring on demand is available as per Hiram's Schmutter - liaise Lt. Ellis.

Anyone who has read this far and observes an officer struggling with the instruction above please help them with the big words.

Please specify your "outfit" for your PC

Further specify your "plus one"... if any deserve it!
;) :P

Kit

Kit seeing this will search out Lt. Ellis with desire to get the appropriate Murray tunic and Blue trousers and try to see if there are tailors or some other place that already have the specifications and will just need to have it fit.

Freya will also seek out Lt Ellis. IISS dress she has, but with Collace Base patches - which may be useful later. A clone would be useful. I'll pay for the self-cleaning cloth option. I've gone for the black option as a shadow is all I wish to be remembered as. (Unless whites are de-rigour)

IISS Admin Dress.

With the new dress uniform available, and as the unit's commanding officer, Frank decides it's time to retire his 1188th dress uniform and get a new SEMC one, appropriately tailored of course, and with service medals and ribbons. He makes sure Polly is aware of his choice to enable her to chose a dress of appropriate style and colour.

Frank contacts Jess

"Sargent Major, Colonel Skeet thanks you for the whiskey. It seems 4DC is actively recruiting, so we need to get on top of signing anyone we're interested in."

I owed him a drink, and I thought he’d appreciate the “diplomatic-grade” stuff.

Jess has kept her No.2 Parade uniform, but not the No.10, so on one of the rare occasions she is in the Bartizan Jess too pays a visit to Lt Ellis. Most of Jess’ time is spent organising the logistics of hosting “the Joes”, consulting Mr Solomon about the purchase of “new” vehicles and equipment for expansion of the unit and recruiting new drivers, gunners and cavalry troopers.

As her unit was a distant “subsector force”, rather than the more familiar Imperial and local formations, she provides the necessary details for the Baroness al Shahrani's Mirage Dragoons Mess Dress – a royal blue 'cut away' cavalry-style mess jacket with gold stand collar and gold piping (with SEMC epaulettes), gold embroidered waistcoat (with SEMC piping in place of BaSMD red) and matching ankle-length evening gown. Although not required at formal dinners, she orders a regimental cap to complete the set.

Jess decides not to inflict the diplomatic reception on Sgt Gaughin, so considers who might appreciate the opportunity. Someone who she can persuade it is a favour worth returning....

EDIT

Jess orders a second Mess Dress in the same style but with SEMC colours, for future events. For this occasion she'll wear her old regiment's uniform (with alterations) though.

Am I expected to attend this reception?
I only have my Imperial Marine Dress Uniform, I don't want to risk offending your "guests".
I can add SEMC flashes but honestly if I can stay out of the way I'd prefer to.

Re your last above:

FWIW Klaus will be aware that SEMC Captain (on sabbatical) Domici will be attending and is also an Ex Imperial Marine - 'Ooorah! ;)

The Captain's soon to be wife Lt. Liv Ellis (SEMC Intel) will accompany him and... according to the "scuttlebutt" she used to be / is some kind of spook...

If you read between the lines...Yes. Marine Uniform is fine - though an SEMC one could be found if you wish. And don't take your psi-shield off. Those are Zho!
And don't worry - The steward can be briefed to ensure that your drinks are water. We probably need to stay sober given the company.

Dinner The Gathering

The hangar has been rendered "military clean" and then dressed appropriate to function. In all opinion it really has come up well.

The deck area adjacent to the Zhodani vessel has been dressed with a scarlet carpet and warded about with red rope swagged between waist high pillars (apparently avowed to be a sovereign cure for "riff raff"). Within the roped off area the space is divided into two areas: a reception area with the bar and then the actual dinning area with the seating and tables.

A now "unsurprised" Frank recalls noting Voss' smirk when the local scream piece "Pulling the Rug Out? Theft of Council Chamber Carpet leaves CPD baffled" had ended up in his daily brief under "Training"...

The SEMC "Stewards" brace up smartly upon the appearance of the first arrivals and set about the reception part of dinner. A critic might argue that the staff could be better described as plying their guests with drink rather than actually serving them but the effect is achieved even if glasses are often oversize and the measures equally generous. The SEMC staff present are identified by dress uniform and titular badges "Camp Freddy" (Maître d'), Cpl Charlie (Barsteward sic) supervising Trooper King (Smellier sic), Private Sugar (Hostess ;) sic), Private Ink (Light Duties), Private Victor (synth pianist). They are assisted by Roland (Ms East's massive Dove Gable “Super Guard” bot) who is resplendent in an oversize SEMC Murray and Blue "Tuxedo" while very delicately offering "pick your own mix" seafood mini skewers and amuse bouche as hors d'œuvres (having four arms really helps here).

Meanwhile the SEMC hosts assemble ready to entertain their guests and, it has to be admitted, all scrub up very well indeed. Those in uniform can both immediately eye each others medals (those with "big" medals should declare them if worn) to see who's been slacking off and also tell whether they joined an army that gave medals by association and attendance... or for earning them.

The SEMC await the arrival of their guests whilst taking in the busy slosh of booze and chink of glasses and the merry banter of the serving staff.

"Fer fekksakes Kingy - leave yerself alone!" A "suspicious NCO's pause" later "Wots that crinklin' in yer strides???"

" 's tinfoil Corp - I didn't want 'em takin' over me... never regions!"

"Don't you even start that wiv me!!! There's far too much "sex case" goin' on in your conkers to give even the fekkin Zhodani any ruddy room!"

(OOC: As to dress code re: Psi Shields enough are available for all PCs. Please state if you are choosing to wear one.

However, by observation the following SEMC staff/associates are not wearing one: Col Frank Cross and his girlfriend Polly Iyhlua, Major Prerna Nayar and Ms Erica East, Capt Domici and Lt Liv Ellis.
All subject to PC approval of course!

Did anyone say :SAN: - meh, must have been me... :P ).

Kit

Kit arrives solo wearing the SEMC Murray tunic and Blue trousers sporting his two Meritorious Conduct Under Fire medals and one Medal for Conspicuous Gallantry.

He does not wear a PSI Shield and as much as this causes him pain he leaves the Sun and Moon (his pistols) in his gun safe.

For anyone listening in his head he is practicing his five planned ice breakers for the night over and over again.
