Sorry, I thought it was implied. Or maybe it's not even dark inside? Anyway, she'll try to light one, only thing I can think of...

Okay, just a quick recap while we wait for Maxon's action.

Kain is being consumed.
Ceana is moving away.
Tuurma is lighting a torch.
Taibhse is firing an arrow.
Cormag is shouting out his warning of impending doom.

Does that sound about right?

Sorry MR!

I just don't have the best experiences with ooze in desert settings. Between this and Inferno's game, the oozes are kicking my ass. It's a shame because I really like desert settings.

Ok, so. I want to help Kain, but don't know how. Tuurma only has her bastard sword and I don't want a situation where she beheads Kain even before he's killed by the ooze. Realistically, she'd look for a knife or dagger in someone else's belt, like Ceana's and try to carve the ooze away.

OM, maybe you could help me here? Can she, in game terms, "attack" the ooze with her bastard sword? And, if the answer is "try it", I'd like to be somewhat informed by the risk of outright killing Kain accidentally. Can she snatch a dagger from someone's belt?

I have a hard time seeing the situation in front of me and just want to be sure that no misunderstanding from my part leads to PC death

Also, how long does it take to light up a torch, and given what she's seen so far compared to her previous experience of lighting torches, will Kain be eaten during the process?.

Maxon curses and turns to deal with whatever's coming from the formerly- blocked door. He holds his scimitar in hand.

Thanks for trying something at least. :D

The ooze is not huge, but it is slowly covering Kain. Attacking any portion that is covering him will result in damage to him as well, but there are portions of the ooze that aren't yet in contact with him. The only thing any of you have noticed that worked so far was when he was trying to scrape the ooze away while removing his armor and gear. That looked promising.......until it attacked again and knocked him unconscious.

The progress Kain made will obviously be lost if nobody steps in to help him. There are plenty of smaller blades available, and there is rubble on the floor that could be used to help scrape away at the stuff, but that will obviously make one vulnerable to attacks.

The damage he is taking is extensive, so it is likely he wont survive another round without aid.

I will assume it takes a round to get a torch lit, but I will need to look that up myself.

Okay, so in the light of this I would like to revise my action, if possible.

Tuurma will try to chop of the part of the Ooze that is not yet covering Kain, hoping that will get its attention. If she manages to sever it in half (well, two fractions) and it still keeps on going on eating Kain she will:

"We must get it off him! Help me!" If the ooze still hasn't eaten through his clothes and armor, she will take a knife (from someone) and try to cut away clothes and armor to dispose, to get rid of as much ooze as possible.

As a final option she will grab a rock, as large as possible, and begin to scrape the rest of of the stuff off him.

Having seen first hand how this thing crawls its way beneath clothes and armor, she'll try to be really careful.

Oozing Ooze

Ceana calls for healing as she steps further away from the dangerous monster. But in the chaos of battle, her pleas go unanswered.

While some in the party seem willing to let their leader die by oozing, Tuurma brushes off her confusion and fear of the unknown to lend aid to the dissolving man. Using her sword, she hacks into the largest part of the grey mass not covering Kain, hoping to get its attention. As she does so, three things suddenly happen, the last being the most unexpected.

First, Taibhse fires a single arrow into the ooze, the broadhead slicing through the skin of the mass, leaving behind a trickle of liquid from the wound before its shaft rapidly starts to dissolve inside the acidic creature.

Second, the mass seems to divert its aggressive attention towards this new threat currently attempting to cut it in half. A grey pseudopod, shaped a bit like a human arm, suddenly forms from the larger mass, striking out at Tuurma and missing her head by mere inches.

Lastly, and fortunately for the dying Kain, a stranger suddenly appears from inside this very tomb, leaping out from behind the opened door that hadn't been searched yet. This man is robed, with inquisitive brown eyes, black hair, and a well trimmed beard. A small owl sits upon the mans shoulder, looking a bit out of place here in this forgotten mausoleum. He leaps in the direction of the prone Kain, wrapping a towel or blanket around his arm while grabbing up a thin hunk of rubble from the floor as he approaches the cleric. The stranger begins frantically scraping any remaining ooze from Kain's exposed skin, noticing his armor and clothing already starting to dissolve just as his flesh is. He looks back at Ceana and shouts purposefully. "If this man doesn't get some healing immediately, he will DIE!" (scraping off the remaining ooze seems to be preventing any further attacks, but it will take at least one more round to remove it completely. In the meantime, Kain takes another 5 dam, putting him at deaths door.) :?

Outside the tomb, things are heating up as well, with more unknown horrors coming out of the stonework to investigate all the noise. Cormag and Maxon see the first locked crypt door open a little further, enough to allow a gruesome looking head and torso to stick through the opening that spots the intruders instantly.

Taibhse

Seeing the stranger pull Kain from the ooze. He rushes forward and drops near Kain, pulling his pipes, grease, honey, bandages and other things from his pack and begins to work on the injured Kain (Medicine Man: Treat 1 person per day per lvl of experience. 1 turn per person. Must have ingredients and devices. Recipient gets 1d4 HP and stabilized.). The music flows briefly then shifts to chanting as Taibhse hurridly works to address the dissolving skin as the others pull the ruined clothing and armor from Kain.

He looks back at Ceana and shouts purposefully. "If this man doesn't get some healing immediately, he will DIE!"
Ceana shouts back, "I don't have any healing! But I do have some clean bandages. You scrape off that mess and I'll wrap him up." She doffs her backpack and begins digging for the bandages. "Anyone have any healing?" she yells in the direction of the doorway.

as the ooze seems distracted and to loosen its effort of engulfing its victim Belloc (the new man in the scene) continues to scrape away the corroding material, now trying to push the ooze away from the small triage forming to help the dying man, he tries to maintain a perimeter free the grey ooze for the healers to aid

"i'll try to hold it back" he keeps scraping the ground trying to keep the oozing material away

as he does he nods to his small owl companion to go out to the hallway and warn of danger

Tuurma, who is still keeping her wits about her if the GM does not rule otherwise goes on full defensive mode now when she seems to have the ooze's attention. Hiding behind her her tower shield, she starts slowly backing away from the others, drawing the ooze away from Kain. Only if a pod comes bending around the shield does she strike at it with her sword.

Cormag, a bit unnerved by the sight out the clearly dead creature as well as the yelling from his companions nearby, attempts a shot at the undead creature, but the arrow sails off in the distance.

Arrow Hit [1d20]=2 Damage [1d6]=4

I'm not a 100% sure of the mechanic, but it looks like arrows are 3/2, so I'm assuming I'll get two shots next round, if I dare take them, which I don't think I will, because I'd be shooting into melee. Looks like I need to create my macros for Cormag soon!

You are correct on the 2/3 being two fired arrows every other round. And, if I remember correctly, firing into melee is a bit more forgiving in this system. :D

Oozing Ooze

The suddenly appearing stranger leads the way for others to jump in to help wrench their cleric back from the gates of hell. As a few of them pull his sizzling body further away from danger, the remaining acidic residue left behind by the ooze is cleared away, making room for Taibhse to ply his shamanic trade. Though his chanting, rattling, and panpipe musical routine along with his ancient recipe poultice application may seem strange to the others, the youthful highlander clearly knows what he’s doing, as Kain’s otherwise fatal wounds are instantly stabilized. (Everything on his person from the waist up that isn’t stone is destroyed by the acid, and Kain will need magical healing soon or risk permanent scarring on exposed skin, resulting in possible CHR loss)

Only a few feet away however, the battle for life and death continues as Tuurma defends herself against the sticky amorphous grey puddle. Those around her can see a crazed look behind the ashen skinned woman eyes, and her face is scrunched up in a viscous scowl. The ooze lunges forward again, covering her shield and splashing portions of her armor, but luckily doesn’t contact any exposed skin. She beats it back again and watches the blade of her sword snap off above the hilt, where it contacted the ooze earlier. The angry Amazon halfbreed can smell the metal of her shield dissolving now as well, her teeth gritting hard in disgust. How about a Save vs. Transformation (+Wis bonus), please?

And if that wasn’t bad enough, a second battle is initiated out in the hallway, as Cormag looses an arrow harmlessly into the sand while Maxon charges the zombified human corpse, lopping one arm completely off with his curved blade while the other hand rakes across his neck, tearing deep gouges through his skin with sharp clawed fingers. 4 dam As he battles this badly wounded threat alone, the Warlock can see several other undead ancients exiting the tomb behind the first.

Cormag is startled to see a small owl suddenly flutter out from the tomb the others are in. It lands in the sand near his feet and screeches loudly but harmlessly.

Ceana

Once she knows Kain is stabilized, she pulls a torch from her backpack, lights it with her flint/steel, and hurries to Tuurma's side.
If she has time in this round she will jab the ooze with her torch...if not, she will likely do that next round.

Belloc
learning from his shared senses with Crestos (Owl Familiar) that a second threat is coming from the east entrance Belloc warns the group

the entrance is blocked, your friends are fighting strange creatures trying to push down the corridor, we're pinned here

he loads his sling and steps back to gain an angle where he hopefully can hit the strange ooze and not the muscle bound lady

Crestos (Owl Familiar)
after warning of the threat on the east entrance flies down to the west end of the corridor to warn of any other threats

Tuurma

*phew*

Save vs transformation (target 14): [1d20]=15

I was about to say I'm lucky, but I realized I just lost my weapon and shield. Well well.

Tuurma spits and hisses, her facial features strained, but she barely keeps her composure for now. Realizing this thing is not flesh and bones and cannot be killed by conventional means, she keeps her distance and instead tries to pick up the largest rock, boulder or part of stone slab that she can possibly move and with a furious howl tries to throw/roll it at the thing.

included the IC description this time since I gathered she can act freely with the save made
